My favorite movie of all time. Everything worked. Henry Fonda as the most evil character in any movie I have seen (my humble opinion), Charles Bronson, perfect as Harmonica, Jason Robards scoring as Cheyenne and Claudia Cardinale making so much out of a subservient role. And Mr. Morricone's score ties it all together, esp. the showdown and final scene. Movie making at its best and am glad so many others have enjoyed this film as much as I have

Filmogenics I guess you and Alexare in a club of your own here, dude... and I'm NOT talking about story, I'm talking about characterisation, setting, music, you can actually FEEL the music in both Once Upon a Time in the West and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. (Dead of a Soldier, anyone?). It's still very good in the other Morricone spagetti's,but it serves more as a background - albeit a very good one.
When you get this many views of the last minutes of a movie, you know it's a great movie. And though their time lives have passed, we remember these great actors.
I’m 50 and just watched this with my 11 year old son. A hard enough watch for him not because of the violence because video games are. worse but because of pure raw emotion. A time when actors were allowed to just act. Long silences made us think and music made us cry.
* Dedicated To The "Charles Bronson" that was part of my early life * You know who you are.... Some 55 years later You remain in my heart....Always, Bob
Ennio Morricone does not get enough credit for his heart wrenching/beautiful music in this or any other Sergio Leone's movies... This movie (as well as The Good, The Bad and The Ugly) would not be the same without Ennio's hauntingly beautiful music! Ennio, you are simply the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can not explain or express what this tune/song does to me, it's an out of body experience, it is all my regrets of the past, it is all my hopes for the future all rolled into one, it is all my hurts and heartbreaks...i have to turn away when i listen to it.....it makes me sad it makes me happy..
+008maguire , From France , normandy,,,,,,,,,it's exacly the same thing for me , i can't explain why, ?? And this , during 45 years.., je vois que je ne suis pas le seul , mais ça me pose question , pourquoi celle ci et pas les autres ??? Mistery.....of ours émotions ...
If you haven't seen this film already then make a point of doing so. Possibly the best western ever made, it's nothing less than a work of art from beginning to end. And the soundtrack ? Right out of the top drawer - nothing less than a masterpiece.
This entire movie is like a classic painting, or a Mathew Brady photograph, captured in time, in sepia tone shades. The ending is indeed sad, and tragic. But this is what makes this a classic opera transposed onto a film for the ages. Sad, yet beautiful and and a true piece of the film makers art. This film will never be surpassed, in these areas.
So were Henry Fonda and Jason Robards. Both were combat veterans of WW2 in the US Navy. Fonda received the Bronze Star. Robards survived having served on one ship sank by Japanese torpedoes and another hit by Kamikaze which killed 223 of his shipmates. Practically, all the actors of that era were WW2 veterans and that includes Lee Van Cleef and Eli Wallach.
Yeah, all the main stars in Leone's Spaghetti Westerns were military veterans from Clint to Bronson to Van Cleef to Fonda to Steiger. Maybe that was one of the requirements lol.

In 1970 over 2 nights on the Sunday & Monday ABC Movie of the week this Great, Great film introduced an 11 year old boy to the magic and art of cinema. Sergio Leone, Tonino Delli Colli, Henry Fonda, Charles Bronson and Jason Robards (God Bless them), Claudia Cardinale and or course, The Maestro Ennio Morricone, gave to a child a gift that a now 60 year old man reveres as the greatest film ever made. I have over 800 films many, many that I dearly love and am privileged to own but none compare to Sergio Leone's triumph. It's been said and sadly it's true that Maestro Leone's career was ultimately a tragedy in that he directed so few films before leaving us at only 60 years of age. Yes, it is true that he directed only 7 films but what a glorious 7 films they were. And this I also believe, that those 7 films are a wealth of vignettes, hundreds of them, treasures to be viewed again and again. In Hombre Paul Newman's great character responds to a question related to being afraid of death "We all die, it's just a matter of when". In the end Sergio Leone left us far, far too early. The magic he surely would have weaved with his "Leningrad, the 900 Days" we'll only dream of but as Edmund O'Brien's Freddie says in the "Wild Bunch" "It's not like it used to be but it'll do". And so too, the magic of cinema created more than half a century ago is now but a legacy, but it'll do. Rest well Maestro and Thank you.
The very best western movie ever made! Excellent real actors no phonies here. Most were WW2 vets that allowed us to stay free. Claudia was so beautiful!!! Absolutely very best most beautiful music ever!!!! May God Bless every one of their souls...
christopher fothergill I agree to a certain extent, but if you need the soundtrack,to improve or make the movie more enjoyable, there's something lacking in the film.I enjoy the music but I'll watch the movie(if I could)without the soundtrack, many times over, before I ever listen to the soundtrack.

Sublime, memorable escena final de tan excepcional WESTERN. Escenografía, Guion, dirección, actores...Charles Bronsom(incombustible), Claudia Cardinale(bellisima), Jason Ronbards(genial chellene).

We lost a legend today, just like Harmonica and Cheyenne in this scene his time has come and gone. RIP Ennio Morricone
The music is like a bird flying freely through the sky.
Movie making at its best and am glad so many others have enjoyed this film as much as I have
This was my Dad's favorite movie. The music is such a great part of it. I always think about him when this is on. He has passed 30 years ago. I miss him dearly.
Best spaghetti western ever. Everything in this movie is epic. Those faces , the scenery, the music (especially the music), the storyline, EVERYTHING!
Good Bad ugly is better. The climax of Few Dollars more is better.
alex ojideagu am i the only one who prefers A fistful of Dollars to both of those?
Filmogenics I guess you and Alexare in a club of your own here, dude... and I'm NOT talking about story, I'm talking about characterisation, setting, music, you can actually FEEL the music in both Once Upon a Time in the West and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. (Dead of a Soldier, anyone?). It's still very good in the other Morricone spagetti's,but it serves more as a background - albeit a very good one.
It's a western not a spaghetti western which is an idiot american label and a nonsense
BEST SPAGHETTI WESTERN AND ONE OF THE BEST WESTERN EVER
When you get this many views of the last minutes of a movie, you know it's a great movie. And though their time lives have passed, we remember these great actors.
CC is still here........and making movies.Almost 80 and with 130+ films to her credit, she's going strong.
One of the best films ever made. The most brilliant score ever recorded... RIP Ennio Morricone 😪
I’m 50 and just watched this with my 11 year old son. A hard enough watch for him not because of the violence because video games are. worse but because of pure raw emotion. A time when actors were allowed to just act. Long silences made us think and music made us cry.
* Dedicated To The "Charles Bronson" that was part of my early life *
You know who you are....
Some 55 years later You remain in my heart....Always,
Bob
Ennio Morricone does not get enough credit for his heart wrenching/beautiful music in this or any other Sergio Leone's movies... This movie (as well as The Good, The Bad and The Ugly) would not be the same without Ennio's hauntingly beautiful music! Ennio, you are simply the BEST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Totally agree. Wondrrful music
Truly said! Been to one of his concerts in 2015. I'll never forget that magic evening.
yes (ecstasy of gold ) the graveyard scene when he is looking for the gravestone is so good
true!, lets not forget about once upon a time in america!
Agreed, I fell in love with Claudia Cardinale when I watched this so whenever I think of her Ennio's music plays in my head
Beautiful music. Never tire of listening ro it.
He came back, and they lived happily.. ever.. after 😊
I can not explain or express what this tune/song does to me, it's an out of body experience, it is all my regrets of the past, it is all my hopes for the future all rolled into one, it is all my hurts and heartbreaks...i have to turn away when i listen to it.....it makes me sad it makes me happy..
+008maguire ..I agree with you.I've been playing this music for about 2 months now,and still am captivated by it.Gives me goose bumps.
+008maguire bravo anche io ho le stesse sensazioni. I Believe that Morricone is one of the best composer in the word. saluti da Roma
+MrBluedog893 Wonderful melody!!!
+008maguire EXACTLY!!
Haven't watched this, but always thought The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly was the best.
@@tommyharris5817 different types of films - both are the best at individual aspects, tough to say who’s “aspects” are better
Love the movie love the music 🎶❤💥🌟🌻
How BEAUTIFUL claudia cardinale is in this movie is quite mind blowing
46 years and nothing has changed. STILL the best - story, acting, music and CC.
Best theme music EVER in a western, beautiful!!
Ennio Morricone and Hans Zimmer are just the best there is, this is a masterpiece and not his only one.
Hands down my favourite western. It's sad that Charles Bronson is dead, loved his acting style and was a real world war 2 soldier.
Sorry Audie Murphy,Congressional Medal Of Honor Recipient.
Yeah, all the main stars in Leone's Spaghetti Westerns were military veterans from Clint to Bronson to Van Cleef to Fonda to Steiger.
Maybe that was one of the requirements lol.

The most beautiful movie soundtrack of all time. Makes you cry every time

The most beautiful Girl on Earth ever 👍
In my opinion this film has got to be the best ever, and Ennio Morricone the best theme music ever.
An absolute masterpiece. He was out on his own, the great Ennio.
Sergio can craft a scene where no dialogue but only faces , eyes and incredible music speak more than 1000 words .
Simply the best western ever. The scale of everything, sound track, awesome storyline. Henry Fonda in his opening scene still sends shivers down my spine, piercing eyes and such a cold execution.
The music, story, actors, and the scenery absolutely fantastic. Claudia Cardinale wow! wow!
Esse filme foi filmado na Espanha!
The funniest thing is that Ennio cannot die... he'll live forever
This was one of the best films of all time...

Her beauty is branded into my mind forever
Rest well Maestro and Thank you.
the greatest film ever made?
+Sam F yes
+Sam F There is no "greatest" film ever made.
Still, this movie is fuckin epic!
+Microage maybe I should have said, 'One of the greatest films ever made'?.
Sam F
Would agree on that :P
+Sam F For me 'The good, the bad, the ugly" has left a stronger impression than this one, just staying with Sergio Leone. Did you see that one?
This one of the best films ever in human filmography.
This is the best movie ever made. Best music. Best story, best director and mega stellar cast.
The very best western movie ever made! Excellent real actors no phonies here. Most were WW2 vets that allowed us to stay free. Claudia was so beautiful!!! Absolutely very best most beautiful music ever!!!! May God Bless every one of their souls...
But for Morricone's music scores the spaghetti western would not have had the same impact. The man is pure genius.
christopher fothergill I agree to a certain extent, but if you need the soundtrack,to improve or make the movie more enjoyable, there's something lacking in the film.I enjoy the music but I'll watch the movie(if I could)without the soundtrack, many times over, before I ever listen to the soundtrack.
It's a western not a spaghetti western which is an idiot american label and a nonsense. DO you know about hamburger / hot dog westerns?
THE DUO WAS GREAT: SERGIO LEONE WAS A GREAT DIRECTOR AND EVERYBODY KNOWS IL MAESTRO ENNIO MORRICONE.
Ennio Morricone's music is what Heaven will be like
Ennio Morricone's music just twist into my heart every time I listen to this tune...
maestro always touches my heart
Sublime, memorable escena final de tan excepcional WESTERN. Escenografía, Guion, dirección, actores...Charles Bronsom(incombustible), Claudia Cardinale(bellisima), Jason Ronbards(genial chellene).
Saludos ...👍
Brings back memories when my mom dad and sister and I sat down and watch this great movie, all are gone now
💔🙏
Sadley for me the same situation, also with my family..😥
We sat down in the 70s to watch it ,,i know what you mean
god bless you
