A few days before Hugh Panaro's final performance in "The Phantom of the Opera," two friends from his web site visited his dressing room with a surprise farewell present - a $2000 donation raised for a NYC animal adoption group, Broadway Barks.

I absolutely adore Hugh as an actor and a person. I had the amazing experience of watching him last month with my mom, and we waited outside the backdoor to meet him. He was so sweet, goofy and humble staying to chat with us and sign my playbill. I will go back probably several more times now that I live here in the city while he's still playing Erik. :)

hugh, does he ever lose his cool? like EVER? i've met him twice and he is so patient...i'm like, this is not possible.
No, the "baby" is his dog, Soot. He's always calling it "my baby" and that sometimes confuses people.
I remember thinking that, too, the first time I saw him. He was still in full costume/make-up/mask and doing the BC/EFA fundraising speech at the curtain call. And he seemed so sweet compared to only minutes before when he'd been so unnerving in Final Lair.
Oh, he seems so nice!

I've seen him perform as The Phantom three times now. He's absolutely one of my favorites!
That was me. I had a few hours free before meeting Hugh after the show so I spent some time walking around NYC and somehow ended up all the way downtown.
He's such a sweetheart. At the moment, he's got his solo album to finish. He also just did an audition and, as soon as I have more news on that, I'll post it at his site.
Im so excited to see him in the Phantom of the Opera. I can't wait.

He's going to be in Seattle until "Company" ends in early November. He hasn't said what he's going to work on next (aside from his CD).
I have no idea if Soot got the cookies! I never had a chance to ask since he left for San Francisco shortly after that and I didn't see him for six months. Funny, when I bought the treats, I had a feeling he'd make a remark like that!

@screaminPirate Most people just wait right at that alley entrance. The alley is shared by a few theatre and the actual stage door is at the far end. The cast comes out through that alley, but sometimes they don't all come out after the matinees. For example, this past Wed., none of the cast came out because of a photo session for the 23rd birthday party.

I LOVE HIM!!!! He's so cute! I'll never forget when I met him. He's such a sweet guy! Does he have any upcoming projects or anything he's working on?
What's funnier...when I bought the dog treats for the gift bag, I just *knew* he was going to say something like that!
He's so cute! And even though he's not my fave phantom (that title belongs to John Cudia), he's still a fantastic person. Such a huge heart.
I completely agree *esp abt John Cudia*, but wow, Hugh seems like such a sweetheart! I met John and he was a darling, I'm sure Hugh would be too! Thnx for the video Paula!
@Paula74 Thanks! Yes, I kind of figured sometimes people don't come out during matinees, that's happened before. Have people gone in the alley before?
