Roughly about 2011, i saw an ad for Larry’s knives and called. I was surprised when he answered the phone as I figured he had a service taking orders. He talked with me for about 45 minutes telling stories about his bucks from Maine..Many of us hunt as he did and have success, but the true fiber of who and what Larry was can never be replicated..
Not trying to be that guy.......but I'm 💯 sure the 270was designed to not be able to fit and fire in a 3006 chamber. Sorry I got hard time believing that part. Great sho though. He's a legend 🙌
I've had the pleasure of spending time with Larry at his home in Vermont. The first time was right after I had elbow surgery in my right arm. His wife cooked us a meal and with my arm in a sling it was difficult to eat as it was since I'm right handed. Larry ended up cutting up the meat for me like he was preparing a plate for a child. I'll never forget that. Good times....
You should make another video with other parts of this conversation with Larry. Great video! I love the old deer stories, and talking about all the older guns
I remember reading about the Benoit family; Larry in particular, in the early 1970's. I never forgot the name, and I believe I read that while tracking a deer in those big woods he would walk when the deer walked, and run when the deer ran. He was and is a legend.
Hal , great recording of Larry , I have great memories of when he and the boys stayed in the school bus on grannies cap road. We had some really great times with them in the Marshall’s hotel and they would come to our cabin there one night each season for dinner, I went once with Lanny tracking deer. Couldn’t keep up, but saw him shoot a deer with his 270, again a great video.
Love to see a part 2 Hal and Lanny Benoit stories with a few cold 🍻 🍺. Read Larry's book a few times definitely a "legend " Michael Jordan of Deer Hunting "RIP the Legend!
I met Larry and his son Nov. 20, 1986, off the Golden Rd. They stop to check my deer & congratulate me. I shot a 10 point, dressed out at 229 lbs. Snowed Thursday to Saturday am, dropped 40+ inches on top of the 6 inches on the ground. MY BEST HUNT.
I love how he mentions Jay Peak . I'm from the area and still live here ! It's been the destination of many a trophy hunter. It's one of the few areas left in Vt where you can still track deer for the day. Back in the '60s , there were more deer per sq mile than almost anywhere. Great video !
I watch all his videos the month before deer season. I really like the whole family and it makes me very sad to watch and know several of them are gone. But they live on in their videos and us deer hunter hearts.
I could listen too him talk all day. Lots of nice bucks he's taken, box of Remington Core Lokt's sitting there he was the real deal. Best hunter and tracker in the world, if not he was dam close.
It always blows my mind just how big bodied Maine deer are, I see these videos of deer with giant racks from the midwest and down south and they only weigh 180lbs, I have seen 6 pointer in Maine that weighed that much.
A legend, plain and simple! I got my first Rem GameMaster pump 30-06 from reading Larry's book, How To Bag The Biggest Buck Of Your Life. Mine is an original, signed by Larry copy. I've been told it's quite valuable, any ideas what it's worth?
I had the pleasure of stopping by Larry’s home to order a knife, I sat in that same chair and Larry talked with me for almost an hour, he makes the knives out back . I have that knife on my belt and used it on a nice 9 pointer, I’ve also had the pleasure of hunting with the boys in 2004 in New Brunswick , and right before Lane passed I was scouting in the Washington NH area and met Lane again.
Hey Legends, got one that might make you drool! Made on a Sunday afternoon in Ilion, NY back in the mid-70's. A 742 Bi-Centennial model with AAA grade wood handpicked by the gunsmiths working there the Friday before it was assembled. Rifle not carbine length in .30-06. it pays to have relatives that are gunsmiths. Oh yeah, has the "X" serial number as well.

A friend gave me one of Larry's books last year, I'm still reading it. God bless and keep him.
Right on Hal. Thanks for sharing that- priceless+! Neat, neat generations.
I can close my eyes and it takes me back to the 60’s and 70’s deer camp.
Thank you Hal! Great to hear his voice and stories again!

Could listen to his stories all day. And sharp as a tack.
Legendary. Thank you from Northern Minnesota.
So much knowledge and history would love to hear all his stories
Two of the best !
Brought back some memories. Met all the Benoits in years past and the boys hunted some of the same Maine woods I did. Good people…..

What a duo!

I always wondered what grain bullet they were using in the 3006
Hal youre left handed, I knew there was somethin I liked about ya...
Mere words don’t do the man justice…
Sure would have liked to see the two model 8 Remingtons he was pointing out.
Wow! How much more of this stuff do you have put away?!
One of my most prized possessions is Larry's book How to bag the biggest buck of your life .
I know of a hunter that tried to fire his 12 gauge pump shotgun with a Bic lighter in the chamber. He picked it up loose in his pocket. lol.👍🇺🇸✌🏻🙏🏽😎
👍
What I wouldn’t give to be In that room and just listen.
Wonder how. Much their pumps would fetch ?
Back when there was bucks just walking the roads ,an no one tracked them ,easy meat
I have not seen so much bone anywhere in my life. Granted, I have'nt hunted the big north woods, but that wall of bruisers.....
My Hero. 🥲
