I'm so glad you went into the distinctions/accomodations for lighting for darker skinned folks! I was thinking of it, but didn't think you would mention it. Fairly presented, thanks.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am trying to do a self-tape for the first time and I have no read so I am out here just searching for helpful ppl like you to help me along the way!
Love the series man; breaking down these technical aspects in very digestible ways makes it much easier for people who are primarily actors (like me lol) to understand. Excited to see the rest of it!
I'm on the search for a total upgrade on my self-tape situation cause we can't be ratchet self taping in 2021 and this video was VVVV helpful thank yew (also your friend helping out was funny teehee)
Thank you for this video! It is so helpful! I have a question about cameras - what is your opinion on taping with an iphone as opposed to a camera? I have the iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Move your lights closer to the back wall. Move yourself from your background and use the “dab” rule for length from you to your key light. Adjust from there. Set your key light first and adjust the fill once key is set. Like he said. You can probably get away with 2.
Thank you for the video!! Super helpful :) how do you feel about umbrella lights? Do you recommend them? Also, I watched the camera setup video and have a question about my lens. I have a Canon Rebel t6i, and it came with a 18-55mm lens. Do you recommend buying the 50mm lens for it instead? I am completely fine with getting that lens if it is better, I just want to make sure it’s not the same thing. Thank you!!!
Hello! I have an umbrella that I’ll sometimes use if I don’t have enough time to set up my soft box! It’s nice to just stick the umbrella on sometimes due to time restraints but I have found that the soft box still gives a more flattering light in me. I love the t6i! I know that the kit lens that comes with it isn’t always the sharpest but it definitely works well for what you’re needing! I have a 50mm and love it due to the low f aperture and the sharpness of it so if you are looking at buying it I’d recommend but you absolutely don’t have to if you just want to use your 18-55
@@WillemButler thank you for the reply!! I ordered the 50mm lens and will be trying it out. I also ordered umbrella lights and will see how that goes, if not I will return them and try the soft boxes. Thanks again! :)
Wanted to let you know that the soft boxes you have linked in the description have some scary reviews! More than one person complained of sparking and smoking from the switches - eek! Not sharing to poo-poo you, just thought you should know. This video is great, btw!
Oh my gosh thank you for letting me know! I’ve had a few friends get them and they’ve never had problems with them but let me look for some better reviewed soft boxes!

Every single time I tape I learn something and chip away at this. Awesome video, thank you!
This is extremely helpful. Thank you!

Very very well done!!
Great tips! I've been trying to make my set-up more cinematic and this helps a ton!
Wow love this! Very Informative. Thank you!

Fantastic, thank you! Can you post a photo somewhere of what your setup looks like? Like at 4:47 in the video? Thank you.
This video is awesome!! Exactly what I needed. Thank you.
Thank you for this! That was super helpful, what's the reference for your backdrop?
Thank you so much!!!!
This is so helpful! Any advice for small spaces where you don’t have much room to move lights or yourself further back?

Try to avoid wearing colours similar to your back drop! Also avoid unflattering colors such as the pale one you wear, it washes you out.
