There was no anatomy for the science section and a few biology and physiology question but 90% of the science section was chemistry. In my mometrix study guide, there was a question asking what is the average amount of neutrons in the given atom. I solved by rounding the atomic mass to a whole number then subtracting. The correct answer in the key was a decimal number. Is this a mistake or can the average amount of neutrons be a decimal number?

    • @thetutor_geek
      @thetutor_geek  Год назад +3

      This confused me as well because I normally see the question “what is the number of neutrons in the atom” Not “ what is the AVERAGE amount of neurons” ….
      Yes, you can have a decimal as the AVERAGE number.
      Reason being, the isotopes create an uneven balance of neutrons in the atom and this creates a decimal form.
      The short version is, if you are asked for the AVERAGE… use the atomic mass ( use the decimals and all) and subtract the atomic number. That will give you the average # of neutrons.
      If you want the long answer, this short video explains really well how isotopes come into play….ruclips.net/video/TykHeeHLj2M/видео.html

    • @ianmarshall9958
      @ianmarshall9958 Год назад

      That one on Mometrix confused me as well! Logically it seemed like it would have to be a whole number since neutrons don't come in partials. But now we know that when asked about average, the answer will be in decimal form.

    Also, the way I think of the form of gas is: When someone farts💨 in a car the 🤢smelly gas particles can quickly spread throughout car 🚗🤢.

      @11:02 - That was my mistake but I'm sure everyone is smart enough to figure that out.

    Hi, I just started watching your videos. But I think you made a few mistakes. At 1:09:10, you said weak hold on the electrons results in less energy ti steal the electron thus IE decrease. Right underneath, there is the arrow going up saying the IE needed to steal the valence electron.
    On the other side, you said stronger holds on valence electron result in more energy spent to steal the electron thus the IE increases. Yet underneath it, there's an arrow showing less energy is needed to steal the electron.
    Also, for the exceptions, you said As is more than Se. However right before it, there was a practice run and you said Se has more IE than As.
    If, I am mistaken, please explain to me. Otherwise this is a great video.

      Hi! I just looked that over and YOU are TOTALLY CORRECT...
      the arrows should be flipped at the bottom. a WEAK hold on an e- = DECREASE IE
      and (arrow pointing downward)
      a STRONG hold on an e- = MORE IE (arrow pointing up).
      also, AS has MORE IE than Se. That was my mistake for not taking the exceptions into consideration.
      Thanks so much for catching these! I don't have an editor and sometimes I run through the videos way too quickly. I'll post these corrections in the description...and so sorry for any confusion!
