      True, but I see a reason why this concept is hard to get. Premising that all chemical paradigms are useful but inherently ill-defined, atomic hybridization (sp3 etc) has always appeared to me as one of the most arbitrary. It feels like a stretched explanation of why molecular geometries are how they are

    • @desmondmiles7718
      @desmondmiles7718 2 года назад +1

      @@gabrivigna I'm a high school student and i don't find the vb theory far fetched when it tries to explain molecular geometry. The fundamental principle is that pairs of electrons repel each other and the molecule always resides in the most stable state where there is least repulsion between the pairs. So the addition of each pair will create a unique shape, like if you were building blocks and you were given a new piece; you'd first have to shift the other existing pieces of the building to accommodate this new piece so that the entire thing doesn't fall down. Ofc the analogy is imperfect because in such an apparatus, you still have other possible layouts but if we think of the molecule that has very limited options, then this analogy will serve to be useful

    Thanks sir for making this awesome video, the only video which made me see it for 30 mins. It felt like as if I was in a sci-fi movie. I completely understood hybridisation thanks to you sir. I have also sent this video to my friends and they also liked it.
