Long time fan boys and first time comment. I worked for a Chevy dealer back in 1989-90 in high school. GM was always known for bad paint back then. Not surprised they all had rust. Ironically, when foreign cars were traded in for a GM, the quality was superior to our shit. We’ve come a long way, but they still can’t catch up. Over the span of 5 years I had worked for Chevy, Cadillac and finally Lincoln (Ford). Great channel boys … always enjoy the content!!

I knew a guy who worked at the Van Nuys factory. I was excited to hear his stories because the car I had at the time was built during the years he worked there. My brother had an 86 Iroc-Z black Gray interior … I loved that car! mad when he sold it.. but I currently own a 00 SS with a built LS6 sitting for 2 years (needs tires for inspection) but I keep it clean and take it around the block every so often. I keep stable in the fuel and fresh engine oil with marvel mystery oil to keep the internals nice so mine doesn’t end up like these classics. The T-top question you asked about glass or paint matched for sun reasons, the late Camaros like mine they came with interior color matched panels that slipped in with sticky Velcro pads onto the glass panels to keep the sun out, so inside it looks like a solid roof. I personally only used them a handful of times. I mostly drive it in the nice weather with the t-tops off anyways. Keep up the great work!

The "bolts" on the dash and doors arent all bolts. Some are just casted replicas that cannot be removed. Also the T tops never came painted on the F body platform they were always glass. The 5.0HO was actually a more desireable engine as well due to higher performance.

Mine was an import from California back in the mid to late 90s. The previous owner gave me all the paperwork this car had, ever since it was in USA. When in Australia they had to convert it to RHD. I had bought a new 1984 Camaro Berlinetta I had looked at the Z-28 and the IROC but the Berlinetta had more class and the digital dash. It cost about $10K base price but I got every option which made it $16K. 5.0L V-8 (150 hp) T-Tops, Automatic, A/C, power everything. This model had the digital dash the speedo would go up to 85 then flash 85 as you went faster. It also had a Radio/Cassette in a stand alone pod in the center console. It wasn't very fast but it was cool. My next door neighbor had a 69 Z-28 and that was Way cool. I would have rather had that one.

That piece between the T Tops you asked about is called an “Overhead Console.”
That pouch was where you kept your massive 80s sunglasses, which I’m pretty sure were mandatory when driving a Camaro in the 80s! Along with boring stuff like registration and insurance.
GM made the Overhead Consoles from 1984-87 in the Camaros and Firebirds.
In Camaros, they installed around 25,000 per year for '84, '85, and ‘86.
Then only 3,366 in 1987, the final year they offered it.
Hope this helps, love your videos!!!

Once you know it's turning freely it's important to make sure there's no water in the oil and that the oil is in decent shape. Definitely disconnect the fuel line you don't want to suck a bunch of gunk from the tank. I'm not a big fan of starting fluid unless it's absolutely necessary, I use gas. If you get it fired up and want to run it for a while change the oil make sure it's got water so you don't overheat it. It's not too difficult to hook up an alternative fuel source until the tank and fuel lines are in good shape

As a former 1984 Z28 owner and GM technician I could tell ya stories. Mine had the 5 speed manual as I saw too many 700R4's on work benches. T roofs leaked in my 1980 Z28 so 84 was not equipped. HO ( High Output ) had a whopping 15 more horsey's than standard. Firebirds standard had 135 HP . Among the usual tune up goodies your going to need a Bowl Vent Control Valve. That little round plastic thing with 4 hoses to and from. To the right of center near Air Cleaner. When bad it dumps raw fuel and sets a Code. There is a easy Hot Rod trick you can do on the Quadrajet but I'm sure some old Gearhead knows it. Good luck and thx for the memories.

The HO was 40 more HP than the standard 305 LG4 in 84 as the crossfire motor was gone by 84. You also got many more goodies with the HO like electric fan, knock controller, better manifolds and exhaust system, better gears. I would love to have another one of these.

    Sports Car Club of America.
You got the history pretty good.
Instead of 5 liter, the motor was better known as the '302 cu. in. V8.
I almost bought one of those in the late eighties, but got a Nissan 240 SX instead.
Later, I had a '86 Vette I took to Germany that had a similar "bolted" interior look.

I had two 4th gen Trans Am WS6's and both were t-top cars. They all came as glass tops, but they came with inserts that made it feel like a regular hard top. I always kept the inserts in when I had the tops on.

Like mentioned already, I prefer the IROC editions. My nephew had one with the t-tops, black with blood red interior, and he put in the performance chip. That car hauled ass !!!!
As for the question about the t-tops. I much prefer the factory tinted glass t-tops. At night it’s great to just see out the top and chill while drivin

These cars were awesome and changed name in 1985 to the IROC Z and it stood for International Race Of Champions for the racing series in the SCCA and it was also up here in Canada. This car was just the year prior and they all came stock from the dealers and the teams could make certain modifications, but very limited. The upgrade to the IROC Z was $ 700 and those wheels were just called 5 spoke wheels. The option on the sunroof glass only and I believe and the space with the leather holder was upper console. GM was famous for paint delamination back in the day. Yes the coolant was green back in the day not red or pink like today. Great videos!

So that plate that wouldn't stay open on the carb was the choke and it stays that way until the engine warms up :). The IROC Camaros had Tuned Port Injection (which is a really cool looking setup). I still have my 1988 IROC that I bought new. Great content guys, love the channel!

If WD Detailing ever needs any help with documenting or explaining anything about the 3rd gen Firebird or Camaro, please reach out to me and I would be glad to help out. Anyway, great car, great video and looking forward to the next one.

As LONG time Camaro guy, my favorite is a '70 Z28, short rear spoiler,, FULL FRONT BUMPER and banana lights. For whatever reason, and I know I may be the only one ever, I never liked the RS package look (split front bumper, round parking lights).. I was 20 when the '70's came out, and fell in love with them. I've had a dozen or so 70-73's over my lifetime. Still have and drive a '71 restomod set up for AutoCross.
