    I enjoy Cassie as a messed up character that’s realistic because I myself am an actor who’s played another crazy pick me Abigail from The Crucible. I think Sydney Sweeney and Olivia Cooke are phenomenal for bringing these characters to life in a way that makes us despise them.
    That being said, I’ve had a friend two versions of the pick me as friend in my life. I’ve had the boy crazy friend that ended up trying to sleep with my SO and sabotage the relationship and I’ve had the girl who is obsessed with one man that put her in no contact. The second one stabbed me in the back not over a guy but because she had to defend a male friend who tried to get me fired from a job. I supported her and talked her through the no contact period of her life. She still knifed me in the back. So you’re right. Male centered women are destructive and you need to keep them out of your circle of friends.

    So good, I’ve literally had to struggle with white women pick-meisms my whole life, because i couldn’t get a grasp of it, being yes, white and sometimes femme presenting and afab, but pretty transboy-y as a child and now, nonbinary.

    Nah I lost it the second Alicent looked Rhaenyra dead in her eye and said "it's too late to go back now" when she was dead ass wrong. Like my blood boiled inside of me! How can you be that hateful towards a girl you grew up with when these grown men who are supposed to be your subordinates spit in your face on the daily!

  • @irondragonmaiden

    It could be me, but I think the pick mes, especially the white feminist pick mes, surged a lot due to the weird "Regina George was Right" vids and essays that came out. I think a lot of women identify with the toxic femininity that comes with being a pick me and hate being called out on it, so they pushed back with "you just hate feminine women!" and basically use feminist rhetoric to extol toxic femininity traits.

    I’ve never watched GOT, but I feel like the male audience gets this sick pleasure from watching women in the show get degraded. Also there are fully unnecessary 🍇 scenes depicted. Refuse to watch it and judge the men who do like the show.

    • @ellapastoral
      @ellapastoral  3 месяца назад +55

      The thing is the author of the books did such a good job building female characters and showing the raw honesty of life in medieval time but the show runners as soon as the ran out of book material turned to 🍇 for several plot lines

      Ehhhh, I think this critique is fair enough, and I think we should make versions of movies available that are edited to skip these scenes. They can literally edit these movies to fit the laws of different countries, surely editing it for more sensitive and possibly traumatised viewers should be doable?
      I personally don't mind sex scenes too much, especially when the sex scene also has meaning and doesn't glorify something or desensitize people to a certain experience by overusing a shock value. I think GRRM as a writer has done a good job at jist adressing the very real outcome of a patriarchial society where female intimacy is a currency, and how that gets in conflict of a woman's desire for intimacy too, and how it is used too often in a transactional manner. I think adressing these realities is not the same as overusing them.

    • @RedDeadReverie
      @RedDeadReverie 3 месяца назад +3

      @@corneliahanimann2173 Yeah I think if it was directed by someone else more sensitive to these issues it could be doable. But there’s a difference between consensual sex and abuse.

    • @corneliahanimann2173
      @corneliahanimann2173 3 месяца назад

      @@RedDeadReverie may I ask, if the abuse was also depicted as abuse, would you be okay with seeing it, or would you just wish that they only show the consensual scenes, or maybe neither?
      See I think I make a good point at least with suggesting that there should be different versions out there that have re-edits without the sensitive scenes.
      This exists in some video games, like Baldur's gate let's you choode how graphic it is and how naked people can get. If it is possible with a game, it should absolutely be possible with movies and shows

    Here's the thing, though. I think Cassie has BPD, Serena is probably a psychopath. They're not really pick mes. They have a personality disorder, I think. Cassie wants men to replace her father, and Serena is hungry for power but also wants a child cause she thinks it'll make her feel less empty.
    Cassie doesn't want to betray her bff, but she's always wanted to be her. Serena doesn't necessarily care about hurting women as much as she wants the world to fall under her beliefs.

      @@ellapastoral I guess what I'm saying here is pick mes purposefully choose to hurt or put down specifically women to make themselves look better for men. Serena just wants power and she will hurt men and women to get it. Her ultimate goal is to have a baby and she doesn't care about the men at all. They're just an object to her.
      Cassie wants love and doesn't have the goal to make women look bad. She inflicts more pain onto herself. These don't align with the goals of pick mes to me.
