It doesn't surprise me that people are acting like this. Many people are raised with no understanding about boundaries, by parents who do not respect them as people or give them autonomy. Either that or they are given free rein to do what they want to do, like non-human animals.

Tbh I always thought asking celebrities for photos not during their job was not normal😥. For example this one time I was on a vacation with my family and one of my cousins saw this Disney star eating a few tables away and begged me to go with her to ask for a picture and I said no and refused bc that’s WEIRD. Like they r just trying to eat their food with their family. No bc if that was me I’d be really bothered by that. Well in response my cousin just went with my sister instead and asked anyway. The star said yes for some reason and then the whole rest of the trip they were clowning Me, bc I didn’t want to cross this random person’s boundaries!!! 🤦aiya smh.
I would seriously be out of character to go ask a celebrity especially when they are giving incognito but my mom is like your cousins and I never want to be like her man 🥴
I don’t think asking for photos is always weird. It definitely gets weird sometimes though. But I think as long as they don’t appear too busy and you’re respectful (if they say no you gotta be ok with that) I feel like most celebrities don’t really mind taking a quick pic!
Contra points once talked about “abolishing the police in your heart” which is such a big step in us leaving people alone and treating the other as equal.
The few times I've met celebrities, I found that the main difference between them and normal people is the level of paranoia. I end up feeling guilty, even though I didn't do anything to them myself.
@@ellapastoral Exactly. I see guys online commenting about this, and they sound exactly like they want to be that harmful person. They hang around events like Comic-Con just to prey on people, then cry on Reddit when they're kicked out.

Nah same. Nowadays, I don’t really stan any groups (or individual members). I listen to their music and watch their performances, but that’s it. I don’t indulge in vlogs or anything like that cause it all feeds into parasocial behavior (especially the fancalls, weverse stuff, and lives).
as much as i love interacting my favorite anime's fandom on tumblr, i 1000% can vouch for this. it gets so tiring keeping up with pure, unfiltered, parasocial positivity that it just unfortunately turns into mushy brainrot. i much prefer joining conversations where people discuss and criticize the thing they love most instead of straight up worshipping it and dismissing people that dislike it/parts of it as "fake fans" or "haters"
I just commented on an insta Chappell roan post that celebrity take downs are cannibalism. Can’t believe I didn’t see that South Park clip till now- it is exactly what I have felt for a long time!
Fr what happened to privacy laws? Like I remember TV news and shows blurring people on the street in the background that hadn’t consented to being recorded. And now we have people coming up and taking photos n videos like it’s nothing. I once had a group of tourists come and take a photo of me like I was an exhibit in the Netherlands (I’m English/Irish but tall and blonde) on a school trip and I was like guys there’s a lady DRESSED IN TRADITIONAL CLOTHES CANT YOU SEE MY UNIFORM RN
Some people really can not see beyond their own nose. I am in NO way famous or known at all and ive been recorded in public several times. (By complete strangers and acquaintances) It happened the most when i was was a teen and wore emo attire. One instance that really stuck with me was a girl i had some classes with saw me washing my hands in the restroom and started recording me. We didnt know each other very well and it made me very uncomfortable. It turned me off of makeup for several years and i only started using it again last Halloween.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I am barely posting anything on social media. I never post photos or videos of myself. Sometimes I am even hestiant to post coments here on RUclips, unless I have the feeling the channel is a save space.
Honestly this makes me glad that Mangakas in japan at least get to have the privacy to hide their face if they want, fans like that are just the scariest things ever
It still floors me that fans aren't past this. I thought it was a very small minority feeling so entitled to Chappell Roan's personal life, but I just keep getting more and more disappointed. Remember too: it doesnt just stop when these "fans" put down their phone and go out. This socialises people for the worst But then I remember, a major reason why I phased out kpop was this weird, gross parasocial behaviour and aggression, and how inescapable it is. Even at best faith to the entitled fans viewpoint; the person you "love" stated the invasive behaviour is *uncomfortable* and *deeply stressful* Why continue to inflict that on anyone, let alone someone you supposedly love and respect?? It's extremely similar to the critique we've rightfully had for the last decade about the overly persistent cishet guys objectifying women they ""love"" by treating them like prizes. Dont eant to be compared to those creeps? Stop acting like them. And in the same sense, how about fanbases finally stop platforming and funding paparazzi; the decades long habit of physically and informationally harassing people for profit. It was always nasty and dehumanising. The Stan song the term comes from was ABOUT how creepy and gross fans that act entitled are. (Also, so refreshing to see someone actually react sensibly to Doja's irresponsible actions and abrasive comments. I get she's hurting, but she's lashing out unproductively and not actually being accountable for the harm she did, so I'm out)
Im glade she’s not afraid to call out this disgusting behavior, and i cant believe people are trying to say “well its been like this so she needs to stop complaining” no im glade this issue is being addressed. You dont own celebrities, they deserve to be able to live their lives without fear for their safety, and they deserve to be able to say no to anything
I remember I confronted someone online on a video of her talking about the stalking and h@rrassment because they accused her of having an “easy job” and she was “complaining”. I just said that their observations were weirdly parasocial (you can be parasocial and also hate the celeb, it’s more about assuming facts in their lives that is just a projection of how they personally feel abt them) and there was no real argument back. Ppl just like to hate for fun or project their insecurities on ppl they don’t even know bc it’s popular. Happened with Justin Bieber, Brittany Spears, and so many other celebs. Some sort of hive mind they thrive in bc introspection is too hard 😬😬
It makes sense that bill skarsgård was way more reserved during the crow promo. I saw videos of people bombarding him to sign pennywise mask outside of his hotels and talk shows. It was so bizarre. Those people were going to sell the masks and posters for profit a d majority weren't like respectfull fans. I know the movie bombed but I feel bad that he's getting bombarded in his space here in America.
John Lennon was shot and George Harrison was stabbed in the chest in his own home by a crazed fan and people out here tone checking Chappell Roan like she has nothing to be worried about and that being famous somehow means her name likeness privacy and personhood should be forfeited and sacrificed all just because “her songs make me wanna dance teehee omgg so catchy and relatable!!!11”
This is the type of behavior that would make someone go off the grid. It’s actually disgusting and scary to be around, like the K-pop stars are SUFFERING. Honestly that’s a whole thing in its self, k pop stans lack boundaries and moral compasses (yes I’m being shady). I get it, enjoying the art is a beautiful thing however, obsession is not. They are PEOPLE , yall are too old for this.🙃
In all of the fandoms I've been in, parasocial relationships are a CONSTANT. It's infuriating, it's exhausting, and all I wanna do is just enjoy something I love... Instead, these delusional weird ass mofos have to ruin it for all of us. Like, just enjoy the artist's works: praise them, critique them, and MOVE ON!!!
The only person that is public enemy #1 is Diddy. These pathetic, entitled people seriously need to go ask their parents why they were never taught boundaries. They need to respect Chappell's boundaries & privacy, no human on the planet owes you anything just because you saw them on TV. These weirdos are beyond sickening.
Regarding the BS Jackie went through, the "you FINALLY got married" thing so dumb af. I'm a woman approaching 30 and in a 8-year relationship and my partner and I know we wanna get married but it's just not a priority for us, and people in our lives HATE IT! 😂 I know when we do get to it and do get Uncle Sam's signoff on our relationship, we're gonna get some snarky "finally"s as if it literally matters at all in the grand scheme of life. Some people are a lot more traditionally minded than they'd like to admit, I feel.
People forgot abt what happened to selena AND björk selena got k!lled by her no #1 fan and björk almost b0mbed by her stalker just bcuz why she dated a black man and not him and last but not least christina grimmie, so I'm glad chappell called out fans entitlement to their faves,
I stopped listening to kpop free years ago because of those toxic fandoms. What really put me off was them stanning for Seungri even though he is a horrible person.
the way these people feel entitled to speak and do whatever they want to celebrities just because theyre celebrities is an age old tale but it does NOT justify why its still happening like wtf😭😭 its one of the exact reasons why i hate the "it is what it is" mentality so much cuz like. not everything has to stay the same????? and just because somethings been the same it doesnt justify you doing the same thing also?????? ppl act like chappell just gives automatic consent to whatever just because theyre at celebrity status and get sooooo mad when they have to remind people that theyre a human being and have boundaries, i love chappell roan and their music and it hurts to see them fight to literally just be treated decently
reminds me of markiplier. didn't he cry at his 10 (or something like that) million subscribers count because he felt like he no longer had the opportunity to be known personally beyond the 'markiplier' persona? people have always had problems w boundaries, and our societal obsession with media has allowed for gross behavior to be normal. i felt physically sick when I learned about reporters and a subreddit waiting for the day emma watson turned 18. disgusting. nicely done video essay.
1:01 this is a little nitpick cuz it's a pet peeve of mine but being normal is by no means inherently positive it's actually more than likely inherently negative Given that the norm is to focus on negativity and to find something wrong with everything and a lot of the really terrible things in society are normal and what society was built off of in constructed on
I DK man I get what you are saying about how a lot of things in our society are based on the concept of being ‘normal’… But in relation to me talking about people stalking abusing and sexually assaulting Chappell Roan, and others as well as overstepping their boundaries with other celebrities these people are in fact, not acting normal. Like stalking celebrities is in no way normal behavior
It's like the stan culture feeds upon itself and grows. You find yourself in a group of friends who think that stalking and harassing normal, complementary, and what famous people expect, so suddenly you do too. I mean, it's obviously what the average person does, because that's what all my besties do, right? I mean, what would I tell my friends if I saw a celebrity and did NOT try and get a piece of their hair? Utter humiliation. And now that object of our obsession is calling us weird and unhinged? I'll show them unhinged! I mean, if these objects start being treated like human beings, what's next? Insisting that the cardboard cutout people all around me have thoughts and feelings of their own? Not in MY world!.. completely normal.
I pretended not to know a major celebrity once and they came back a few times afterwards 👍🏾 figured he probably was tired of ppl going “hey aren’t you M.C!? Can I get a pic!??”. Haha also had a Netflix real estate show reality star stop by and just wanted water which was free so I got it for her and she felt bad that it was free and tipped me $50 😭😭😭
I don't think it will change. It's like a deal with the devil. If you want fame you will have obsessed ppl involved. Some celebrities seem to be able to stay low key but they may not be able to maintain the momentum. Best of luck to her.
I definitely think it can change if we as a society move to respecting celebrities' boundaries. In the early 2000s, paparazzi culture was insane. They put people's lives in danger, while chasing them to take pictures of them. Because of the fact that our society was like, yeah, no, people are dying because you guys don't know how to respect others' boundaries. Now, the likelihood of you getting chased down the street by paparazzi is less likely now. And I feel like if we as a society move towards that with stan culture, thing would improve.
@@ellapastoralI disagree. The only reason why paps aren’t chasing celebs isn’t due to a moral uproar, but more of social media being so easily accessible. You don’t need “that shot” if there are hundreds of them online, provided by the artist/team. TMZ is just as despicable as before, posting dead bodies of celebs before the celebs’ families know about it. Liam Payne(RIP) being the newest. Tabloids have conditioned the masses to do their nasty work for them. All they need to do is write a vaguely controversial take that may or may not have been said by a polarizing celeb, and the comments run wild. There are no need for a Perez Hilton because the common Stan(or hater) is him, in the modern era. Conversations like your video are extremely important don’t get me wrong, but dehumanization of celebs are above the tabloids and ingrained in our culture.
most ppl ive seen bashing on chappell roan for setting boundaries were gay men and non fans at all. that's at least what i see on twt/x. i open their acc and they're always a gay man or non lgtbq person who either likes sabrina or ariana or taylor swift 🗿
To be honest when it comes to celebrities, they’re gonna have photos taken of them even when it’s highly inappropriate for people to do so and for the whole photo signing thing you really got to read the room. Like if a celebrity is with their children, I personally wouldn’t go up to them and ask.🥴 but if I do decide to ask, I shouldn’t be surprised if they say no

It doesn't surprise me that people are acting like this. Many people are raised with no understanding about boundaries, by parents who do not respect them as people or give them autonomy. Either that or they are given free rein to do what they want to do, like non-human animals.
It’s a damn shame 😭😭😭
@zoilalulu3798 it'd wild when people try to strip others autonomy.
Which is why I find her so bizarre. She feels empathy for her her republican family, who voted her rights away.
I guess it's okay for her, to have family strip your rights. So weird.
@@xdani_thethinkingneko as a gay person, i still love my family even though they're homophobic because they raised me, and hope to change their views one day. She could just be empathizing with the family part, and not their political views
My parents were in leadership at church and that brought me enough hell, people felt entitled to dictate every detail of my life and appearance and say the most invasive, disgusting things. I couldn’t express it until I saw the D’Amelios talk about how being famous was affecting them mentally. It was the first time I felt understood but it was jarring to see similarities between my life as literally nobody and what they go through as celebrities. It wasn’t even a big church! I can’t imagine being famous, sounds like the worst parts of my life x millions 😭
I’m so sorry about people touching your hair, people touch mine too (I have red hair) and it’s so nasty. Especially when they pull it!
Our stories are so similar that’s why I had to stop going to my family’s church because no one respected my boundaries😭 I’m sorry you went through that

No I completely agree. Parasocial relationships have been so prevalent that I'm so happy that shes is taking the time to talk about this. Extremely disappointing that this had to happen in the first place though...
Because now she can’t even also new friends or nothing 😭😭
Yes this is so true !!
that’s such a great way of putting it
Imagine hating on someone because they dont want strangers invading their personal life.
It’s scary out here 😭😭😭
They are celebs, the have the duty to take pictures with fans.
@dhsf5937 no they are regular people who make entertainment content, not full time clowns for you to gauck at.
@@dhsf5937 nah, free will forever
@@dhsf5937 people always say this its so annoying, like they just have NO right to privacy at all?? Huh??? 🤨
The few times I've met celebrities, I found that the main difference between them and normal people is the level of paranoia. I end up feeling guilty, even though I didn't do anything to them myself.
it's scary because you don't even know who's a regular person and who want to hurt you
@@ellapastoral Exactly. I see guys online commenting about this, and they sound exactly like they want to be that harmful person. They hang around events like Comic-Con just to prey on people, then cry on Reddit when they're kicked out.
I’ve seen a few celebrities in real life, in supermarkets on the street in cafe etc, I’ve always pretended they weren’t there out of respect for their privacy. They owe me nothing.
The way people saying "you finally got married" to jackie Aina its a be example of people being way to comfortable with strangers yall ain't her friends you don't talk like that to strangers
They’re actually weird man 🥴🥴 because damn man
i didnt mean to walk away from being a kpop stan. i walked away from my tumblr where i was a kpop stan. being away from that mindset is lowkey freeing. im not obsessed with making a band the #1 in the world anymore. i listen when i want to bc i like the music. (i was in love w vixx lol)
You get me for real
I once had a group of tourists come and take a photo of me like I was an exhibit in the Netherlands (I’m English/Irish but tall and blonde) on a school trip and I was like guys there’s a lady DRESSED IN TRADITIONAL CLOTHES CANT YOU SEE MY UNIFORM RN
im not going to lie to you i think after 2020 and the lockdown people's social skills went to the toliet
It turned me off of makeup for several years and i only started using it again last Halloween.
hello😭 recording you in the bathroom is nuts im sorry that happened to yes but yes its a societal issue man
When I was a kid, I was aware that being famous would be hell. Exactly because of other people.
Your video got recommended to me and i really love the iridescent eyeshadow! It's giving butterfly
Oh thank you!
I wonder what the next level of this will look like. The possibilities scare me.

Honestly this makes me glad that Mangakas in japan at least get to have the privacy to hide their face if they want, fans like that are just the scariest things ever

@@ellapastoral the “fans” would straight up harass them , and thats a fact.
The fact that people have to make videos to explain a supposed human common decency is insane. Thank you, this stuff is serious.
It’s a mess but thank you for watching 💕💕
It still floors me that fans aren't past this. I thought it was a very small minority feeling so entitled to Chappell Roan's personal life, but I just keep getting more and more disappointed. Remember too: it doesnt just stop when these "fans" put down their phone and go out. This socialises people for the worst
But then I remember, a major reason why I phased out kpop was this weird, gross parasocial behaviour and aggression, and how inescapable it is.
Even at best faith to the entitled fans viewpoint; the person you "love" stated the invasive behaviour is *uncomfortable* and *deeply stressful*
Why continue to inflict that on anyone, let alone someone you supposedly love and respect??
I get she's hurting, but she's lashing out unproductively and not actually being accountable for the harm she did, so I'm out)
Man I don’t think we could ever defund the paparazzi because we’re like piranha fish😭😭
I know the movie bombed but I feel bad that he's getting bombarded in his space here in America.
ugh that must be so frustrating smh

Some people are a lot more traditionally minded than they'd like to admit, I feel.

the way these people feel entitled to speak and do whatever they want to celebrities just because theyre celebrities is an age old tale but it does NOT justify why its still happening like wtf😭😭 its one of the exact reasons why i hate the "it is what it is" mentality so much cuz like. not everything has to stay the same????? and just because somethings been the same it doesnt justify you doing the same thing also??????
ppl act like chappell just gives automatic consent to whatever just because theyre at celebrity status and get sooooo mad when they have to remind people that theyre a human being and have boundaries, i love chappell roan and their music and it hurts to see them fight to literally just be treated decently
Subscribed the second i saw the Southpark reference
reminds me of markiplier. didn't he cry at his 10 (or something like that) million subscribers count because he felt like he no longer had the opportunity to be known personally beyond the 'markiplier' persona? people have always had problems w boundaries, and our societal obsession with media has allowed for gross behavior to be normal. i felt physically sick when I learned about reporters and a subreddit waiting for the day emma watson turned 18. disgusting. nicely done video essay.
Your video is great and your eyeshadow is even better girly❤
They are human beings. 🎉
!!
1:01 this is a little nitpick cuz it's a pet peeve of mine but being normal is by no means inherently positive it's actually more than likely inherently negative
Given that the norm is to focus on negativity and to find something wrong with everything and a lot of the really terrible things in society are normal and what society was built off of in constructed on
I DK man I get what you are saying about how a lot of things in our society are based on the concept of being ‘normal’… But in relation to me talking about people stalking abusing and sexually assaulting Chappell Roan, and others as well as overstepping their boundaries with other celebrities these people are in fact, not acting normal.
Wait,I thought everybody was OBSESSED with Chappell(god,icon..etc). They turned that fast?...well shit.
it's because she's adamant about her boundaries and people don't like that
I pretended not to know a major celebrity once and they came back a few times afterwards 👍🏾 figured he probably was tired of ppl going “hey aren’t you M.C!? Can I get a pic!??”. Haha also had a Netflix real estate show reality star stop by and just wanted water which was free so I got it for her and she felt bad that it was free and tipped me $50 😭😭😭
they were shocked to be treated like a regular person lol
YES. THANK YOU
I don't think it will change.
This is a great video.
Glad you think so!☺️🤗

To be honest when it comes to celebrities, they’re gonna have photos taken of them even when it’s highly inappropriate for people to do so and for the whole photo signing thing you really got to read the room. Like if a celebrity is with their children, I personally wouldn’t go up to them and ask.🥴 but if I do decide to ask, I shouldn’t be surprised if they say no

The way people are treating her for wanting us to expect her boundaries… You would really think she’s public enemy number one
The death of underground music and local music scenes is part of the problem. She can’t enjoy niche fame and skyrocketed to proper fame too fast. That’s also what causes fan bases to crash and burn their idols.
