If a desert country like Saudi can have sufficient water by desalination then can't a coastal state like Tamil Nadu do the same. Problem is with governance. They have funds for everything but when someone proposes desalination and other methods they start talking about the economics behind such projects.

Hi Rakesh, I congratulate you and the other occupants in the complex for the initiative you took to recycle water and reuse it. The government has to take care of its people at large and instead of complaining that they did not take care of your needs, you have made arrangements within the premises and addressed and resolved the problem. I look up to your venture with admiration and respect. It is the same way Israel handled its water scarcity problem. I wish to view the setup in person with your permission, is that okay?

Tankers get water from borewells dug in a 70-80 km radius from the city. The planning of the city has been an utter failure where storm water drains lead to sewage line and into the sea. Also they converted natural wetlands for building projects. Its not rocket science. Its very basic in nature.

The residents of Chennai don't need to panic for drinking water, a sea water desalination plant can be installed just like in Dubai (UAE).
The only source of fresh water in Dubai is desalinated sea water. Dubai has a population of 3.6 million, and Chennai's population is about 9.88 million, but Chennai also has other sources of fresh water like lakes, rivers & fresh water reservoirs. If political parties can spend hundreds of crores on elections just to be in power (in other words to serve the people of the country) this money can be wisely spent on installing desalination plants wherever possible (Required), the government earns crores of rupees in Taxes and most of the money goes unaccounted(wasted), let's stand togather at this hour of crisis and make the government work for our requirements. If the government doesn't yield to the people's requirements there are other alternative solutions which I can propose.
When we have modern technology and ton's and ton's of free energy why worry. All we need to do is be united and work for progress. (Let's not forget 3000 crore rupees was spent on installing a statue)
The government of India earned a revenue of 16660.55 billion rupees in the month of April 2019 alone.

Theyre importing a technology from the 80s and using it in 2019..Just shows how they are deserving everything that is happening to them... At least this is a start.. Hoping these guys understand beyond basic stp treatment of water and look for more advanced systems to ensure sustainability and stop blaming govts. Govts everywhere in india is corrupt and inefficient. Waiting for govt to solve problems is the wrong thing to do in india. If u can make a collective fund and invest in water treatment that is the best thing to do... If people in chennai still dont understand the importance of wastewater treatment and groundwater recharge then god help them!

Great to see you are doing recycling of water .. Are you also doing rain water harvesting? Even if it rains little, there is enough area for you to capture the water from.. Nowadays, I am kind of becoming jealous looking at small number of apartments; they can at least do rain water harvesting and survive..

sir, have you made any effective ground water recharging system since your area is very big and would be most useful. simply make bore wells of 600mm dia up to 25m appx. and fill it up with coarse river sand fully and put a concrete cover on top of it with perforations to allow the rain water to go down. it would be like safe deposit of water below ground and can be drawn at any time. during rain do not allow the water to run off, instead make arrangements to percolate in to the ground with much deeper bores.

In metropolitan cities, 24 hours of water supply should be banned. Instead, have water for a limited amount of time, so people know that there is limited water and that it is to be used sparingly.
Other than that, rains and rainwater harvesting can save us from the crisis that will hit all of us hard.
