Hey Novation , please could we have more videos on SL Mkiii and Logic Pro integration, soft synths and effects please. Enrique is great at explaining this stuff.
Hi there thank you so much your the only person I could find who showed how to map VSTs keep up the fantastic work hope to see more videos like this Rhythm X
Hey Enrique/Novation, thanks a TON for all the videos so far! I'd love to see a video specific to the way Enrique would map the internal sequencer mode to live ELEVEN on his personal SL. A complete tutorial on Ableton Live 11 setup would be great too. I know the info is out there, but right now it's spread out over videos and articles from throughout the product life cycle, and the manual doesn't cover the firmware updates, so new owners can't actually get things set up just by reading an article or watching a video, setup requires sifting through dozens of videos. I'd love to see one where CALC handles all the explanation for hardware setup and control, and Enrique handles software setup and control, and hardware/software integration. Like a walkthrough of the SL MK3 as it stands with current firmware and Live 11 done like that.
Thanks for your feedback on this, Matt. We will certainly look into creating something like that. In the meantime, if you need assistance getting setup, our Support Team are available via phone, live chat and email - bit.ly/NovationSupport
@@NovationTV thanks a ton! Really, really appreciate you folks being so heavily engaged with the community. While I am surprised at the lack of current official documentation, Novation still has the best customer service in the industry.
Great vid as always, Enrique. I hope you guys at Novation consider owners' suggestions. Main priority with firmware updates--- making the pad lights more noticeable/different (like Circuit) when active patterns are going. It's sometimes very hard to see what's going on, even in a dark room. On Circuit (which I also own) it's a lot easier to see everything. The lights don't seem to have the same luminance, and it is very difficult to see active patterns / current patterns / empty patterns.... there should be a different-colored light to let users know what slot has a pattern on it, and which one does not (empty-- maybe dark/light off). Further, we need more banks of encoders (not just page up/down). 16 encoders is great. 32 would be dope. 48 or 64 would be tremendous. And ideally, more banks of faders (one is far from enough, and I'm sure everyone would agree). And most importantly, at least one more bank of the two rows of buttons. I like having the 16 controlling what I want, in Reaper, but if I had 32 for common functions, it would be a LOT better. I use console tape/paper tape above and below the buttons to remind me of what does what. And, an internal sound for a click-track.... AND 1 or 2-bar count-in would be MOST helpful, too, when making patterns (maybe also the ability to send an internal click sound to a specific output (computer/DAW) or hardware. Do you guys have any plans on a firmware update, with these improvements? I sure hope so. Thanks again!
Thanks for your feedback, Chris. These are interesting ideas. Implementing most of these particular features would require hardware modifications, so they can't be delivered using a firmware update but this is certainly valuable feedback.
So I know in sequencer mode there are only 2 banks available for the encoders. It seems Ableton can "feed" the SL MkIII many more banks -- at 20:17 we can see there are many more banks available for Ableton 1st party plugins that can all be scrolled through on the SL MkIII. At 22:03 the plugin parameters from a 3rd party plugin were assigned to the encoders but couldn't be scrolled past the first page. Shouldn't it be possible in Ableton to assign the scroll buttons to go through more than the first 8 parameters the same as it did for its built in ones? I'm not sure if the pressing (and lighting) of the down scroll button can be configured in Ableton or Components, but if it isn't, it should only be a software, not hardware, limitation. Also at 23:07 it appears the down scroll button lit up after loading the configuration anew; I wonder what would happen if you press it then.
Is there a way to share templates with other SL mk3 users? Rather than everybody creating individual templates, it would be great if these could be shared between users. Especially for commonly used devices that aren't covered in the default templates.
That's a solid idea and something that other users have also expressed interest in. We're looking into that. For now, you can share your creations in our Synth Owners Facebook Group: bit.ly/SynthOwners
@@NovationTV Thanks, I'll join now. Would be a great feature to see in Components at some stage though. In recent years I've picked up quite a bit of Novation gear, a lot of it using Components. The cloud storage is great but developing a patch or template sharing community within Components would be even more amazing.
Are there any plans to implement more than 2 banks for the knobs? That would be really helpful in mapping a whole synth. The same goes for the faders. It would open up a lot more control possibilities.
Mapping a VST in Ableton allowed me to map more than 2 banks. There might be some software issue still, because the SL was initially showing only 1 bank, but after some clicking between windows the other banks suddenlty became accesible.
@@RadekPilich Cool, thanks. I thought about that too when I saw him mapping the VST in Ableton. But that wouldn't work for hardware synths. It seems to be a limitation of the Components Software that will hopefully be addressed in an update.
HI Enrique, just saw Calc do a deep dive walk-thru of his studio and the MKIII. What I'm trying to figure out if Components supports Bank MSB/LSB Select when using the Buttons for Program Changes. Tried searching the User Guide, nothing. You got close to it in the Templates but I didn't see the ability to Influence Bank MSB/LSB when defining Program Changes. Do you know if this is supported with the MKIII? My tone generator has 1000s of patches and requires Bank MSB/LSB before the Cn xx (Program Change). Thanks.
Hey! Awesome work and products, guys!! I'm wondering if there is finally a way to Start/Stop the SL MkIII sequencer using a footswitch. Of course, I can map it to any DAW but didn't find a way yet to set it up to the transport within Components... Thanks in advance!!
Cool, I didn't know it's that easy to map VSTs! It would be great if we could rename the controllers in Ableton and if they refreshed when changing presets / instruments in instruments packages such as Arturia's Analog Lab.
How to map SYSEX to SL pads? F0 43 7E 00 ss 7F F7 NOTE: ss is the section number of the pattern and can have a value from 00H to 0FH. (00 = section A, 01 = section B,... 0F = section P) I want to trigger Motif XF and RM1x patterns I also need CC11 0 and CC11 127 switch across 16 channels

@@NovationTV thank you. your link says 404 page. But I do see CC NRPN on editor. I’d like to send sysex comand but editor doesn’t allow SYSEX user selection. How do I enable sysex dropdown on the components editor?
Is there any way to have the faders send out System Exclusive messages, more specifically Master Volume SysEx messages? (I'm not in InControl mode, btw)
Thanks for the video. I've just bought a footswitch for the purpose of starting and stopping record in Ableton 10. And double tap records onto next clip. The closest this video got to this was can you use a footswtich to start the sequencer, has that been figured out? In components I can't see how to actually route the footswitch to anything.
This is what I did to start/stop session Record (overdub) in Live 10 with a footswitch: - I created a template in Components and I assigned a high note to the footswitch. I set the behavior to Trigger/On Push. - I chose the highest possible note (127) on channel 10 (typically used for drums). I figured I would probably never really need that note anyway, particularly on a drum kit. And besides, it’s way beyond the physical range of the SL 61. - I uploaded the template to the SL and assigned it to each SL part and then saved that as a session on the SL. I load that session every time I work in Live. - I then midi-learned that note in Live and assigned it to Session Record. I saved this in my Live default template. Now I can trigger overdub recording on/off with just the footswitch and have both hands free for the keyboard. The other cool thing is that it works regardless of the inControl setting.
I am trying to get it to route out to the tr8, TD3, and minilogue and feel half Slow like in the head. I finally got to the sequencer, and really cool arpegiator, but From what I heard this is supposed to be ''the Brain''
Should be a screen for the faders too. It's very hard to keep track of what everything is routed to. It should also have more banks for the knobs and more steps on the sequenser. Please Novation.. Make us a luxury midi controller, even if it would become more expensive.
i have a 3 synth that i want to connect it to the SL MK3 and a drum machine, i would like to use the internal sequencer in the SL but for the drum machine i would like to use its own sequencer. so how would i press play and get the synth to recive midi from the SL sequencer but the drum machine to play its own sequncer.
You can certainly do that. With these devices connected, you are able to send clock to your drum machine to synchronise it with SL MkIII and your other synthesisers and do not have to use the SL MkIII sequencer for that device.
That's correct. SL MkIII features 1 customisable wheel that can be used as a modulation source. The other wheel controls pitch. You can use Components to configure an assignment for the Mod Wheel. If a mapping is not enabled, the LED associated with the control will be blank to show it is disabled.
You could create multiple Templates using Components that provide you with the control that you're looking for - components.novationmusic.com/slmkiii/template-editor/new
That template was actually created for Analog Rytm MkI but it appears that the CC and NRPN specifications are largely the same on both of these devices so, in theory, it should work - although we haven't tried it with the Rytm MkII.
Ableton 'arrangement view' overdub (in control mode) is really unintuitive on the mk3, even though it's such an important function. Shift and record are on opposite ends of the keyboard. How can I get novation to make this possible to do with one hand e.g. like how you do 'Ableton capture' on the mk3. This would make it possible to build up loops that I can't play in one go, i.e layering 🙏🏿
When i program a beat or notes in steps it transfers to all 8 patterns , if i alter anything say in pattern 3 it then changes all 8 patterns , what am i doing wrong ?
