Don't leave out Honduras, Myanmar, Xinjiang, Venezuela, Taiwan, Ukraine, Ethiopia, and several others. Ah the US, bringing democracy, death and suffering to the world.
It was 100% a failure. As an American, I feel like our government is really good at sticking their nose in every other countries business, while totally ignoring the issues (and not fixing them!!) we have in our own country. Big business seems to run it more so, seeing how much our government caves to them. When changes do come, it takes forever for them to happen, or gets held up in arguments. As to leaving? The treatment of the athletes is not just about one-upping Tokyo, but rather to show the athletes the hospitality of Chinese people and to make sure everyone enjoys the visit. It doesn't take much to beat Tokyo's effort in last year's summer Olympics anyway.

I've been to China. I've been to USA. China is at least 100 years ahead of USA in every regard. They're well approaching the 22nd Century. Hi Lee, I share your same views on this video, supporting every athletes from all countries and not listening to the melodramas from some lying politicians with bad intentions. Considering the sacrifices these athletes made in 4 years or more, they deserve the part of being there in a world class event, where they can show their excellent achievements and the possibility of getting medals. Simply just being there in the Olympics would be a very proud moment for any athlete. The classy part is the athletes taking part. Bravo to China in holding the event and making sure all Athletes are safe, comfortable and enjoying themselves.

Well it is the athlete's decision. Personally I would not want to compete in a country whose government makes no attempt to follow the Olympic ideals. To quote the IOC website - "The three values of Olympism are excellence, friendship and respect.". Leaving excellence to one side, I see no friendship or respect from the Chinese government. In a recent speech, Xi Jinping said that any “foreign force” which tries to bully or oppress China “will have their heads bashed bloody against a Great Wall of steel” forged by the Chinese people. Hardly the Olympic ideal. They have no respect for the sovereignty of Taiwan. (Frankly I think Lee made a big mistake using the word "Taiwan" in the context of the Olympics. Your CCP paymasters will not be pleased.) They won't even let them compete at the Olympics under their own name, forcing them to compete as Chinese Taipei. And don't even get me started on Tibet and the Uyghurs of Xinjiang. They deliberately hushed up the outbreak of Covid 19, and punished those who spoke out. Let's not forget the complete lack of human rights for the Chinese people. None of them will be reading any of these comments. I wouldn't want to promote such a government by competing at the Olympics. Furthermore, I wouldn't want to compete in a country where I could be locked up indefinately for the slightest cristisicm of the government. Competitors? More like potential hostages.

The diplomatic boycott campaign has definitely lost traction. I'm now half expecting the US to organise/coordinate staged protests during the games with saturation media coverage. Hopefully not but no surprise if they have some devious scheme up their sleeves to detract from the event.

Well it is the athlete's decision. Personally I would not want to compete in a country whose government makes no attempt to follow the Olympic ideals. To quote the IOC website - "The three values of Olympism are excellence, friendship and respect.". Leaving excellence to one side, I see no friendship or respect from the Chinese government. In a recent speech, Xi Jinping said that any “foreign force” which tries to bully or oppress China “will have their heads bashed bloody against a Great Wall of steel” forged by the Chinese people. Hardly the Olympic ideal. They have no respect for the sovereignty of Taiwan. (Frankly I think Lee made a big mistake using the word "Taiwan" in the context of the Olympics. Your CCP paymasters will not be pleased.) They won't even let them compete at the Olympics under their own name, forcing them to compete as Chinese Taipei. And don't even get me started on Tibet and the Uyghurs of Xinjiang. They deliberately hushed up the outbreak of Covid 19, and punished those who spoke out. Let's not forget the complete lack of human rights for the Chinese people. None of them will be reading any of these comments. I wouldn't want to promote such a government by competing at the Olympics.
Furthermore, I wouldn't want to compete in a country where I could be locked up indefinately for the slightest cristisicm of the government. Competitors? More like potential hostages.

The Chinese words could not interpret from each word's itself in simple, plain English word for word translations! The diplomatic boycott campaign has definitely lost traction. I'm now half expecting the US to organise/coordinate staged protests during the games with saturation media coverage. Hopefully not but no surprise if they have some devious scheme up their sleeves to detract from the event.
I agree and that is why China should deny the visa applications of the US diplomats, as they can't be trusted. We have to wonder why, after boycotting the Olympics, did the US decide to send diplomats anyway. Why do they need to attend? It's likely that they need to send "diplomats" to carry out some disrupting activities. I don't trust them at all.
Notably absent are the US, Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Kosovo, Lithuania, Portugal, and the royals in Norway and Sweden (who normally attend the Winter Olympics).
