I was born and educated in Hong Kong, now have been living in China for 10 years, I know both western and eastern mindset, and I am totally agree with Barrett's point of view. Before I came to China, I was also biased, thanks to the media, I thought China was not treating their people well, cultural revolution, lack of freedom, blah blah........ But I have witnessed the change of China in the past 10 years and the satisfaction of the people here towards the government, I know I was wrong, China doesn't need salvation from anyone. China people do think it was necessary to have the cultural revolution stop the greed of nobles and the rich to share the lands to the poor. Women were treated as belonging and men could sell their wives and daughter before the communist party took the control of the country, can anybody imagine that? Let's talk about this example. The "Red Communists", who are accused as evil, have liberated women, claimed women are freeman just as men, set policies to ensure women have the right to be educated and protected by laws, encouraged women to go out to the society, they told women that "Women can hold the another half of the sky on", women in China have never been as free and confident as nowadays in the entire history. There is just no reasons for the Chinese people to not appreciating their government as it has do sooo much for the people. It's just an example, not even mention so many good things the government has done. I didn't know this when I was in HK, I only know this by talking to the people here. And yes, as Barrett mentioned, *CHINA REALLY DON'T GIVE A SHIT ON PUSHING THEIR SYSTEM ON OTHERS*, Chinese have a very strong mindset of "balance and harmony" which the west doesn't, so the west just don't get it. People in different countries have different living habits and beliefs. We should respect everyone's freedom of choice and democracy. People in each country have their own understanding and ability to discern. These choices are not the reason for our own will to impose on others because you don’t. It’s not someone else. my dad used to say that when he was young he had never thought about being able to buy whatever he wanted to buy and have the condition we have today. I am a Chinese PhD researcher in Brussels, Belgium. I have married a Belgian national and lived here for over 5 years. I have to say that this short video has literally moved me to tears... All these unfair things that they have been saying are making me personally feeling suffocated, intimidated and deeply offended. I tried to talk to some of my friends here about my 30+ years of personal living and working experiences in China, about what I actually think of my own country, in a very honest fashion, however I find it so difficult to even hold a decent conversation because they all think that I was naturally ‘brainwashed by the CCP’ and I can only BE TOLD about my own country instead of telling. I don’t know where my freedom of speech is, I can only hold up to myself to remain different, and, Chinese... This is why this short video is just so much needed by me, for me it’s like the first gentle rain in spring after a long long winter. I'm 15 and I studied over sea now. When I was young I always think America(or other western countries) is an amazing country. My uncle lives in a small city 499 kilometers away from Beijing. I was born and educated in Hong Kong, now have been living in China for 10 years, I know both western and eastern mindset, and I am totally agree with Barrett's point of view.
Before I came to China, I was also biased, thanks to the media, I thought China was not treating their people well, cultural revolution, lack of freedom, blah blah........ But I have witnessed the change of China in the past 10 years and the satisfaction of the people here towards the government, I know I was wrong, China doesn't need salvation from anyone. China people do think it was necessary to have the cultural revolution stop the greed of nobles and the rich to share the lands to the poor. Women were treated as belonging and men could sell their wives and daughter before the communist party took the control of the country, can anybody imagine that?
Let's talk about this example. The "Red Communists", who are accused as evil, have liberated women, claimed women are freeman just as men, set policies to ensure women have the right to be educated and protected by laws, encouraged women to go out to the society, they told women that "Women can hold the another half of the sky on", women in China have never been as free and confident as nowadays in the entire history. There is just no reasons for the Chinese people to not appreciating their government as it has do sooo much for the people. It's just an example, not even mention so many good things the government has done. I didn't know this when I was in HK, I only know this by talking to the people here.
And yes, as Barrett mentioned, *CHINA REALLY DON'T GIVE A SHIT ON PUSHING THEIR SYSTEM ON OTHERS*, Chinese have a very strong mindset of "balance and harmony" which the west doesn't, so the west just don't get it. I really hope the west can think outside of their own box, US may think imperialism is only way, but China doesn't agree with this.

不敢骂政府感觉是九十年代以前的事了，疫情初期大家对政府尤其是湖北地方政府有多少的骂声啊！但是之后中央开始全力控制疫情开始，人民还是给予信任全力配合的。现在一年多了，再放眼全世界除了中国其它都是一团乱，更加能够理解十几亿人口的大中国，能够如此迅速的控制疫情，恢复经济，实属不易。看遍世界更加信任中国政府的领导力。

my dad used to say that when he was young he had never thought about being able to buy whatever he wanted to buy and have the condition we have today. I am a Chinese PhD researcher in Brussels, Belgium. I have married a Belgian national and lived here for over 5 years. I have to say that this short video has literally moved me to tears... In the past one year I have read so much biased, wrong, twisted, selfish and arrogant ‘opinions’ (I refuse to call them ‘reports’ from an academic point of view) about China from western media. All these unfair things that they have been saying are making me personally feeling suffocated, intimidated and deeply offended. I tried to talk to some of my friends here about my 30+ years of personal living and working experiences in China, about what I actually think of my own country, in a very honest fashion, however I find it so difficult to even hold a decent conversation because they all think that I was naturally ‘brainwashed by the CCP’ and I can only BE TOLD about my own country instead of telling. I don’t know where my freedom of speech is, I can only hold up to myself to remain different, and, Chinese... This is why this short video is just so much needed by me, for me it’s like the first gentle rain in spring after a long long winter. China has 1.4 billion people and a long history, so the western is biased if they attempt to force China to follow the western ruling system which is not practical and not fair to China,. Population size is different too. Hard to say who is the best or not, each one has pros and cons for their ruling method

二十多年前我还很认可西方的民主制度，是因为当时天真地以为参选者都会是德厚流光、才高行洁、砥节奉公、笃信好学的精英，老百姓们只须优中选优即可。后来因婚姻移居西方民主国家才发现现实并非如此，一个食言而肥、尸位素餐、矫作威福，以从民望之人反而更容易利用选举获得政权，从川普和蔡英文这两个例子就可以看出。所以我坚定地希望中国不要走西式民主道路，一定要独自摸索出另一种更进步、更适合自己的政治制度。目前看来，中国正走在这条正确的道路上。

I too used to have this bias towards mainland China because I grew up in Hong Kong. Then I lived in China and learned Mandarin which changed everything. Good to see some Brits in China while I live in London now.
