Well that is how it is actually. It is called "Super Butler" because he basically commands a team consisting of normal Butlers (Alongside Chefs, Service Staff and so on). Basically he is an executive Butler.
They are called footman and they do tend to have ranks first footman, second etc all depending of seniority, skills and how big the household is, all of them are at the command of the Butler who is the chief of all the servants staff.
What many here don't understand is that it's not just serving tea. Butlers at the highest end are responsible for the entire house staff as well. They are, for all intents and purposes the CEO or the house or houses that may have staff numbers up to 100 people. Take for example someone with three homes; one in the city, one in the country and one at a favourite vacation spot..all have to be maintained, kept clean, secured and be ready for the family at moments notice. People who make shedloads of money are busy and don't have the time to deal with 'logistics' and what little time they do have they want to enjoy it. They are called golden handcuff's for a reason
Crypto Mike Having worked with some members of staff within such households. I can assure you that the money is much more to do with the level of intimacy, trust and no secrecy, rather than excessive workload, that creates a bigger pay packet. Hence the line , "What the butler saw" .
Most billionaires around the world prefer to hire a native English butler that looks like the ones in Downton Abbey, not just a butler who speaks native English.
Most 🇺🇸 wealthy clients use the term, House Mgr. Not butler or maid. I spoke at length to a house mgr. He said 90% of his clients were miserable, not nice. They drank, did drugs had mental issues. Wealth is not a great life.
I literally just finished a book by Kazuo Ishiguro called "The Remains of the Day"....it was about a "super" butler, worded differently. Fascinating to get into the mind of one of them. He was a proud man but ultimately.....just a butler.
its not always the ability that pays sometime its the absolute display of loyalty that make a butler the creme de la creme of a butler and get payed god knows how much because deep inside us we all would like to have someone like alfred and when your a multi billionaire a few hundred thousand a years even a million is a drop in a bucket for that kind of confidence in absolute discretion
The best butlers - who provide special shopping services and specialise in "making things happen" as well as serving meals - can be paid more than £100,000-a-year.
Wait... Will Budic is ranting about Britain hating eastern Europe and destroying the USA. He lives in Australia. Pretty sure we gave that to the world. Did somebody forget to take their meds this morning?
pfft, I have been a London butler/house manager for 10 years plus, very few pay anywhere near that. average butler salary is 30-45k. House manger 45-75k that high a salary is very rare and would almost certainly involve devoting your entire time to work with few few days off.
Great eye to attention! I guess because men butlers back then had different tasks before WWII then the politics, men's and women's rights, and other global changes must have changed within the traditional butler and nannies training schools. If you look up The most expensive nannies in the world - Inside Norland College, you will see that they still train in the traditional way and modern way. I haven't found an accurate video on buttle training yet. But surely, their training methods must have changed. ☕
''a bit like servants''? They are servants, but what's wrong about this? Those people are highly educated (and/or well educated) plus have refined, specific, training. Pretty much they're the definition of luxury, which comes not cheap and not everyone can be that. You feel sorry because they serve breakfast? HAH. It's a great job.
I'd love to know more about how it is to be a female butler. I have an assumption that male butlers are preferred but I know nothing. The work has always fascinated me
imtypingwords 41 They always live in the same house as their employer. They usually have their own section of the house, or an entire floor in the basement or attic for sleeping areas and other amenity rooms. It's a full time job in the most literal sense
But why are white butlers gets paid for 300K a year in Saudi Arabia, while maids from South Africa or South East Asia gets paid with only $4000/year. Maid's job are more difficult. Sometimes they work for 14 hours/day and only gets 1 day rest per week.
“But for those who do reach the top, the pay *may* be worth the effort.” Emphasis mine. I cackled, they make it sound like it wont be worth the effort if you do not reach the top, and even if you do, it might not be worth it.
I once was told that the people who are "newly rich" are the ones paying the larger amounts. Old money doesn't like to pay for services like this a good example would be the british royal family. You make minimum wage working for them and if you live on the grounds in the servants quarter, you make even less because they deduct the living expenses from your pay before you get it. There's an entitlement to services like this.
*Imagine the drama,* when you have too much stuff, that you need another person to service that stuff for you :-) Where is the joy in ownership, when you need another person to handle your stuff for you all the time ? It's like you become so rich, that your house needs a bus driver and a nanny, and a cleaning lady. Why not go minimalist instead and spend monis on experiences or ethical investments instead ?
epSos.de because you wont earn shit if you keep spending on dumb experiences and why waste precious time when for some dollars you can have someone do it for you, which also gives the hired person a job and more time for you to work on your dreams and shit
Because their stuff (properties, exotic cars, artworks) go up a lot in value every year. It's both an enjoyment and an investment for them. A few years ago you could buy a Ferrari 250 GTO for around £7mln, today it's worth at least £20mln. The staff cost is absolutely negligible in the grand scheme of things.
to the crazy ones calling ''slave'' or ''servants'' wtf arent we all servants? butlers are a job just like working on a office... u get paid to do something thats it
imagine being so rich that your butler has a butler 🤔
😂
And that Butler could eventually get his own butler and then that butler could also get his butler.

I'm waiting for the next episode of Black Butler: Public School Arc then I saw your comment it made me laugh so hard.

I didn't see Batsuit maintenance being taught.
What about laughing gas first aide.
What a scam.
Do the butlers have butlers?
Once they become a Super Butler most likely yes. Question is...does the Super Butler's Butler have a Butler for themselves?
Maybe when he takes on someone to become a Butler
they're usually head butlers so there's probably junior butlers and other staff working below them that they manage
Butlerception. You could get the super-butlers butler to do it all for him
Butlerception
same old, same old. british giving servants a fancy name and selling it as a status symbol.

How’s it going? Are you a butler now? Female butlers are sought after in the middle and near east as personal butlers for rich men’s wives.
Butlers have a important role with wealthy families. for example: Alfred Pennyworth
“You know, I trained to be a Geisha” - Robert California
If you're spending £3000 on shoes then you probably need a pretty elite butler to stop you...
300k a year for Alfred seems like a steal
“I think I’m pretty super.. yeah...”
