You can do that whole performance contrast thing with any make or model. Take a Ferrari from the late 70s and early 80s. I bet it doesn’t perform like a new Ferrari. Go look. Go look at the performance of most cars in that time period. Even the performance cars. Only the customized or tuner ones were fast then (or something approaching $100,000). Being slower than today’s cars isn’t something particular to Corvettes. I bet that ‘82 had good brakes and suspension for the time. It’s so annoying listening to people complain about Corvettes from a time period, when it’s the fault of the period, not the car. It’s pretty simple and cheap to make these pretty quick/fast. Any other performance car from this period, a performance guy would modify, without complaining about how it came from the factory. For some reason, when it comes to Corvettes, the car just sucks (and there’s apparently nothing one can do about it). The 80-82 is a good platform to start with…because of its appearance. Make it faster. Make it corner better. Make it brake better. It’s not that difficult.
