Spaniard here! When I was younger I was desperate to leave the country... I could just not take all the bad stuff and I was done with our situation. Then, I started traveling, meeting people from many other places, Spaniards who came back from abroad and foreigners who came to this country and then I completely changed my mind... I started realizing that, even with all the bad stuff (and we have a lot of bad stuff) we had so many wonderful things I was just taking for granted... I realized the "outside world" was not that utopia they made us believe and I began reconciling with my country. The truth is that I love our lifestyle, I love the natural wonders of our country, I love how we value and rely in our families, I love how we value leisure time and interpersonal relationships, I love our rich history, food and culture, I love how your job is not the most important parcel of your life here, I love how not everything revolves around money... Most of the things I considered "normal" or "common", turned out to be only normal and common here and even if we have a long list of things to improve, I realized that I indeed love the live I can enjoy in my country... I eventually got the life I wanted without needing to leave the country. I still love traveling and getting to know the world, but the more I get in contact with that world, the more I am grateful for being born and raised here. I might one day live abroad, as the experience seem curious to me, but now I know that if I ever do it, it will be with a return ticket. So happy that you found here a place to call home!! I know our country can sometimes get one mad and frustrated, you are still relatively new to the country and you will soon realize not everything here is hunky-dory, but in the end it is compensated with all the good stuff.
This is one of the most truthful and outstanding videos I have seen. I hope people know that you're not suggesting moving to Spain will better their lives. People can better their lives anywhere, they just need to want to do it, no matter where they live in the world.🌎
Goood day to you sir, just at an airport in Spain and caught this,I tend to agree with your points,I'm British and have noticed the shortcomings in society, rampant consumerism and a fragmenting of social values. In countries like Spain,France ,Portugal and Italy, these values are still very important. Try not to worry too much and ensure you do the best you can in this crazy world. I admire your openness and content!!
I’m from Florida and I watching this video from Madrid after a short visit to the city of Malaga, and I can tell you that is the best decision you can make
I couldn't agree with you more...I am from Spain and I am living in the US...People here need to wake up...Things are not what they seem in the US...I won't go into any details, but the reality is that people here live to work not the other way around...They do not know what they are missing...I do know and cannot wait to go back to my country...
I have been married to an American citizen for over 30 years now, and at various times in our lives we have considered the possibility, for different reasons, of going to live in the United States. We have carefully weighed the pros and cons of living between our two countries and in the end, after all this time, we couldn't be happier to have stayed to live in Spain. Of course it's not a perfect place, but I completely agree with you regarding the conclusions you have reached. Finding your true priorities and enjoying the experience of life is unparalleled.
I’m about to move to Spain from America, thanks for sharing. Rare to see these types of videos where there are points I haven’t heard. Glad you are enjoying it!
I thought this would be another one of those videos that focus on a list of practical reasons, such as health, security, education, public transport, etc. But no, the reasons presented in this video are of a deeper nature, they refer to the soul, because societies also have a soul, a soul that can be sick. Interesting content, never before seen. As a Spaniard, I am glad that you have chosen us.
In Europe in general fast food franchises as McDonalds are obliged to buy local products for their menus and things as meat with hormones or chlorinated chickens are banned in the whole EU. Also the content of sugar is highly regulated. ❤❤❤
You are very brave and sincere, whoever does not like it does not look, a Spanish saying, nor pay attention to the retrograde, envious uneducated, I am very happy that you like Spain.
Have you noticed that people in Europe don't tend to classify others as winners or losers? I find those adjectives appalling, and their widespread use in the US makes me very sad.
I was born in Spain many years ago , have gone back numerous times over the years to visit my native country and see my relatives . I am on the fence about moving back there in retirement. I see too many people moving in that will change Spain permanently I fear for the worse. I agree with the elderly parents care and horrid nursing homes in the US which people are happy to throw their parents in . That is not part of my Spanish DNA to treat elders that way.
Here in Spain there are already some rules regarding work outside of working hours, weekends or holidays. Workers and public employees will have the right to digital disconnection in order to guarantee, outside of legally or conventionally established working hours, respect for their rest time, permits and holidays, as well as their personal and family privacy.
@justinianorigobertp7973...this is a wonderful idea...if we were younger and bit more $$$ moving to Spain would be fun after we find how it is when people get older...we live in Canada...which we love...Myself have never traveled, my mate has more than I, but I keep hearing good things about Spain.. So for younger people than us, I hope they can tell us how and where they visited was the best place....thank you for the video..I cannot say anything about US except an awful lot of people go live there and to my view I don't know why...😊
When I was born, I couldn't talk, I couldn't walk, I couldn't pick things up, I didn't understand what people said to me and I didn't even know who they were... but they didn't abandon me. Fortunately my parents didn't reach that point, but I don't think I could abandon them either. It's what children should do, take care of their parents, but I also understand that there are very difficult situations. But we're talking about intentions, they have to be the right ones, then maybe harsh reality will take over, but at least you have a clear conscience.
I agree in most of your points, except for the concept of socialism. I think Americans tend to mix this concept with communism. Socialism is actually what brings the welfare state by controlling key aspects of society like public health, social security and other social perks and rights, so that everyone has a safety net, i.e. a minimum social coverage. Unlike selling them to private companies which will try to maximise their gains at minimum costs, which might result in an expensive bad service. In fact, the Spanish Government is now being ruled by a political party whose name contains "socialist". The Scandinavian countries, whom everyone tends to mirror, are the most socialist countries in the world and they are far from being China, North Korea or the old Soviet Union.
¿Socialismo? No tienes ni idea de lo que es el socialismo. Suecia es ya casi un estado fallido, Francia mas de lo mismo y aquí el socialismo es sinónimo de corrupción
I'm spaniard and i need to be honest with you about Spain. For the record, I love my country and i don't have plans by now to go abroad cause i still trust the potencial of my country in spite of having all the economic troubles. Don't get me wrong but you just commented that one of your reasons to go to Spain to live is quality of life. The problem is that i got the feeling that you are talking about it from the perspective of someone who is going abroad but still working online in your homecountry and getting a salary from that country and not from the country you are living in. In my opinion it's not fair to make that approach when here in Spain we have low salaries, job insecurity and the companies cannot grow properly as much as they could cause of the government demands them to pay a really high and abusive taxes to keep the macrostate (enormous weight of the state) that Spain has. As a result many of them go abroad to make a better living. Spanish polititians are destroying my country little by little. Disgracefuly Spain has been becoming more and more in a country whose economy almost depends on tourism and not on industry and technology as others. These two sectors are the ones that brings progress and development a country not tourism. In regards to that i feel pity cause i feel that my country has a way more potencial than it shows and many talents have to go other countries to be valued. In my opinion and with all your respect i think if you got a job in Spain you would get a completely different perspective of quality of life (maybe you are working for a spanish company if you are, i beg your pardon but it's the feeling that i got when i watch your videos). I love your videos and the fact that you decided to go to Spain to get a new life and you aprecciate my country but I hope you understand my point about this.
Well it seems here in Australia is similar to USA. It is common for elderly to be sent to nursing homes. My late dad was in a nursing home but i used to take him home most weekends. Yet there were people in the nusing home that none of their family members visited there. I agree that people should be valued who they are. I have to admit its really hard making friends here in Australia. Life can get lonely with that. Yet I am a Christian and with that my faith has really helped me. Yet with churches its not easy making friends there either. People can be shadow there just like people outside the churches. God bless you on your journey Mr.
