I was very homophobic and transphobic as a teen; what I didn't know then- I'm bi and trans. Internalized hatred is both self destructive and pretty annoying.
A lot of people are where you were. I'm guessing you grew up in a very conservative or general close-minded location/family, right? A lot of youths feel they have to be what their family and peers make them to be, and won't realize this until later on in life. I learned it early on, thanks to very open-minded family and friends, but when you have outside influences telling you day after day that 'gays are wrong,' it's hard to think to one's self as "AM I in the right here?" I wanna just point out that thinking for yourself is important. Sure, you can be friends with people who have opposing views. But when they start opposing who you REALLY are, you need to re-evaluate your position in your peer/family group. I have an aunt who hates me because of my 'choices,' and my disability, and yet I choose not to talk to her at all or socialize unless I have to, and I'm perfectly happy about that. I don't need her approval, I have it from my wife and immediate family. The people who matter most to me. Hope that helps some of ya who are struggling to look inwards on themselves to understand that it's okay to be something they're not expected to be.
@@BeckyNosferatu yes actually, I was raised Seventh Day Adventist. The idea of not being cis-het was actively discouraged. I wasn't allowed to think for myself for awhile even my mom went so far as to tell me, "if you're gay, we don't need you in the family." I was devastated. I couldn't believe that if I had come out as anything other than cis-het I'd be disowned. I love my mom, her opinion was important to me so to hear that sent me deeper into depression. I was suicidal and couldn't think for awhile. I avoided it all together. If I had thought about it too much, I would have a suicide attempt that year. Within a few days. I've had 3 attempts before coming out as trans a few years ago. Now, I'm happy. I'm really happy. Finally. And she's accepting as well.
@@RUclipsrGrudge that’s the worse feeling ever, knowing you can’t be who you are without facing backlash because people refuse to accept who you are. It gets so lonely and what not hiding it and not being able to talk or vent about it. At the moment I’m hiding my own identity because my mom asked me to keep it hidden because her boyfriend is religious and thinks that my sexuality/gender would affect their relationship. It’s a heavy burden for me, but I also want my mom to be happy since she’s been abused and what not, and she already accepts me as who I am, and been very supportive as well. Anyways I’m glad that your mom turned around and accepts you as who you are, and didn’t disown you.
@@RUclipsrGrudge It's hard, I know (one of my best friends is gay and was raised LDS, he hid for so long), to have people like that in your family who don't understand it and tell you how awful you are for believing otherwise. I can't imagine how awful it would be to live in that kind of situation, where you have to lie to yourself all day, every day, just so you have a roof over your head. But you don't have to hide now.
I'm telling you, Trans people need to adopt the gender reveal party. Imagine, if you will. You pull your friends and family together, they don't know what the party is about. They just know there is a half pink half blue cake with white frosting accents. For some strange reason, there's little note card explaining how blue used to be a feminine color and pink used to be masculine one. They look up and see *Insert appropriate color here* smoke as you step out from your hiding spot to reveal yourself in your new, more appropriate, clothes screaming " It's a gender reveal party!"
I personally would prefer one where they cut the cake and inside has a piece of paper that says "It doesn't matter." Or a balloon that explodes into a bunch of different colors. And when people look to the host asking what gender, the person just smiles and goes "Who cares?!? Let's party!"
"Blue used to be a feminine color and pink used to be a feminine one" ???? Edit: guys, I was pointing out a typo in the original comment which has since been fixed. Please stop replying to me to explain how the colors switched.
@@tortis6342 pink use to be considered a masculine color because, it was a strong color and we can't be exciting our little girls with those so, a calming blue was assigned for girls. Is what they were talking about typos happen, still funny tho.
We know that “They/them” as pronouns are invalid and just an appropriation of trans struggles, which is pretty damn transphobic, but they just skipped too many English classes to confuse there/their/they’re tbh
@@growingoaks "they" and "them" are pronouns in English and used for multiple people, or single people of unknown gender, as well as single people not confirming to the gender binary.
My mom got a lot more cool with my transition, when she came to visit me, and people on the street were referring to us as "girls" a lot despite me boymoding. 8 months into hrt :з
My favorite accidental ally is my maternal grandmother who refused to call me by my true name or correctly gender me as her granddaughter, slipped one day and called me a d*ke, a slur for lesbian women. Not only did she just affirm my gender, also affirmed that i was a legitimate lesbian. Whoops, I win
@@summeryoung1026 Of course gender can change. What is important is how one feels about their gender. If they were born male but always felt they were female, their gender in their mind hasn't changed. However, if they didn't recognize their comfortable gender until later, their gender has changed for them. At least, that's my understanding of all this. Both are still equally valid and beautiful.
My favorite accidentally ally is "This is Max he is a boy he uses he/him he looks like a boy" Karen: yes "He trans" Karen: NO SHES A GIRL SHE DOESN'T EVEN LOOK MALE >:(
Or, whena fully transitioned kid goes out to dinner with their parent and they're like: I'll get the fries so my DAUGHTER/SON and I can share and the employee just looks at them in confusion.
As a non-binary person, I’m not out irl, but I haven’t really plan on any physical transitioning, so if/when I am out irl I imagine I’ll confuse the hell out of transphobes “I’m trans” “You’ll never be a REAL girl” “Hey thanks”
Fun fact: when OT said "Taylor Green is not the sharpest bulb in the crayon box" at around 3:15, that's called a malaphor! Its when multiple metaphors or idioms are mashed together.
I don’t judge the woman who first invented gender reveal parties. From my understanding, she had multiple miscarriages before that kid and the first gender reveal party. She was celebrating the simple fact that her pregnancy had gotten far enough along to let her know the sex of the baby. (Plus, her child ended up identifying as something other than what they were assigned at birth, and she was cool and accepting of it.) I DO, however, judge the parents who do gender reveal parties and set fires to forests, as well as the videos of dads throwing little temper tantrums because they’re having a girl instead of a boy.
As always, there's no inherently bad things there's just excess or absence of something that can be harmful ^^ Gender party are fine, although they're technically sex reveal party, when it's just a cake or a balloon. It's when you want to do something grandiose to impress neighbours taht troubles begin XD And honestly, there's so much troules with pregnancies, pregnant women deserve all the parties they want XD
I'm reminded of the Rugrats movie when the parents thought Tommy's new sibling was going to be a girl, but they painted the bedroom both pink and blue anyway in case they were wrong.

Storytime; So I'm a trans boy, but I'm closeted to my family. I got this pin saying "she/her" (which aren't my pronouns) and my parents were slightly miffed that I got it, but I said that I just wanted it so people could know who I am and stuff. So, I went around, with a pronoun pin saying "she/her" and smiled underneath my mask as people called me "sir" or anything like that. It was kind of bittersweet, for obvious reasons, like the fact that some people can't get pronouns straight, but this is just a life hack for closeted trans people :)

Ikr, I’ve heard way to many stories of those guns accidentally going off while in a getaway from a robbery. Worst part is that most of the stories are about men… they never knew they would be women but then guns transitioned them for free.
It’s depressing to me how that one post essentially said that creating your own identity and sense of self is wrong. That’s what everyone is supposed to do as we become adults, not just people transitioning.
For real. It just adds to my theory that some bigots hate us because they see us breaking out of society’s molds and are jealous they don’t have the courage to do the same
Speaking as someone born into Catholicism, did you notice how they assumed everyone also felt that worshiping someone/thing besides the Christian god is bad/evil/wrong? For them, adhering to their arbitrary societal norms and practices is so ingrained (via indoctrination via mass, repetition, their literature and social environment) that anything outside feels unnatural to them and their societal norms mandate that any religion and/or culture is the enemy. In short, they hate because they feel you and I are the enemy to their way of life. And their way of life is to spread until all there is is their religion. And then, because they are god's chosen people, they get to rule over all. If it's hard to fathom, think of it like this. Try saying "Gotta catch them..." and not thinking of the word "all". It's like that but with much more and longer reinforcement, it's not a song lyric/catch phrase but your core identity and instead of "all", it's "You need to worship Jesus."

I have a similar story! The nurse straight up lied to my parents that i was a boy, then later it was revealed i was AFAB. Then I found out i was actually nonbinary a couple years ago.😂
Early in my mom's pregnancy the docs originally said it was twins, a boy & girl. A couple months later they said the girl took over. (they combined) So, I was assigned female at birth, though biologically (physically speaking), I'm intersex.
"They are their own god and can thus recreate themselves in their own image" is very empowering and my dnd world has some trans deities so I'm definitely stealing that for them to use :D
In reference to 12:26 ... I used to work in a nursing home. I'm a trans dude. The residents were all extremely cool with it. I never ever ever corrected any of them on my gender identity, because half of them couldn't remember where they were and were mistaking me for a niece of theirs one day and their long dead husband the next. But the ones who were more lucid would ask me for my name, I'd tell them Will, and they'd just roll with it even though I didn't pass. They didn't care. I found a couple of old ladies talking about how they wished things were different when they were younger so they could have felt safe to "try things out" with other women, and told me that I should take advantage of that and have sex with women since I'm still young and I can do that without being prosecuted lmao
I'm lucky that I haven't experienced much transphobia personally, but I am just WAITING for my time to have some enby fun when I get the "You'll never be a real man!" and when I thank them, they flip to "You'll never be a real woman!" and I can thank them again

HOWEVER, instead of the powder or glitter in the balloon being pink or blue, it's going to be black regardless. So when the time comes and the balloon's popped, I can blast some heavy metal or something and scream "IT'S A DEMON!!!"

Most people agree that children do not (if they very do) feel sexual attraction until about 12. Now, some people say that kids do not feel romantic attraction until the same time (if ever). While this may be them trying to claim that their kid isn't gay, this does mean that all kids are aro/ace until proven otherwise.
And then there's folks who ship their young children with other kids. Like "Oh my boy got himself a girlfriend at kindergarten today". Which is just gross imo...
But that's just silly, I mean, I was trying to grab the attention of a specific gender way earlier than that, at least as early as grades 3-5. Even if it's not sexual or romantic in nature, you can pick up on little signs and biases in kids pretty early on relating to later development of these kinds of identities... it's not just like they materialize out of nothing, after all.

@@DeathnoteBB We all know that. But the "it's a religion" argument _accidentally_ attacks anti-trans legislation. Because if gender identity is a religion, the logical consequence of that would be that anti-trans legislation violates religious freedom. So, legislation that for example allows religious discrimination against trans people would be put on very fragile ground by the claim that gender identity is a religion, because it would spark a conflict between Religion A "Our religious believes cause us to discriminate against trans people" and Religion Geneder Identity "We are discriminated against because of our gender identity", which would then force the courts up to SCOTUS to resolve the matter. And that would either mean, that SCOTUS would uphold the First Amendment and strike down anti-trans legislation as unconstitutional, or that SCOTUS would undermine the First Amendment and uphold anti-trans legislation, and practically make this "Christian nation" BS official.

@@DeathnoteBB Actually not the case. The "Y" chromosome isn't even shaped like a Y. I looked up the Wikipedia article last night to try and confirm something. Turns out that the Y-chromosome contains mostly junk-genes. It has something like 30-ish genes that actually do something, only 6ish or so which are actually unique to cis men. The other functional genes just encode proteins that genes on the X-chromosome also encode. The genes that _are_ unique to cis-men are the SRY-gene and a handful of the genes that are involved in sperm production (but most of those aren't on the Y). The SRY-gene turns on the production of androgens during fetal development. It does nothing after you're born. It's the androgens that cause the development of the penis and testes. Once _that_ is done, the androgens aren't needed anymore and cease being produced. In summary: the Y-chromosome doesn't confer maleness, has zero effect on cis male physiology outside of sperm production, and isn't even the main location of the sperm-production genes. [Edited after I looked up the numbers again.]

A cis man prefer to dress and act more feminine but still identify as a man. The chart had been made at the request of someone looking to reinforce parts of planes, assuming the best places to do so were "wherever the plane was more likely to be shot at". There are bullet holes scattered all over the chart, except in key areas like the engines and cockpit. Someone else pointed out that the data they were able to gather was on the planes that *survived long enough to return to base* and so therefore they should actually put the reinforcements on the areas that their data showed no signs of being shot at. Gotta add: "sex is fixed at birth" ISN'T actually accurate or "accidental ally". Sexual differentiation is an ongoing process which is essentially finalized through puberty, endocrinologically dictated. While many people saying this sort of thing mean well, it isn't accurate to the way that bodies actually work. Penile growth, breast growth, etc. are key traits in the concept of "sex" and are directed by the production of sex hormones. One interesting trait which has scarcely been researched is the development of prostate tissue, which has been documented to appear in AFAB men after years of HRT. Among the many other traits such as hair, fat distribution muscle growth, etc., the essential traits that we consider to be a person's "sex" are not static in the slightest. At present, an individual's genotype cannot be manipulated, but beyond that, sex is hormonal and largely takes place outside of the womb.
You're half right. However sex is assigned at birth based on what genitalia you are born with and that's what they're talking about not what hormones you develop.
@@brothersandsistersofvalhalla Once again, even things like penile growth take place beyond the womb! Sex is not static. And I'm not saying your sex is measured by your hormones, I'm referring to the fact that sexual characteristics are direct expressions of sex hormones. Such expression of course begins in the womb, but it is FAR from limited to.
@Breq I'm not sure penile growth is a good example. It has vibes of, "penis-size==masculineness". Here's a better one: The ability to produce sperm or to ovulate, the secondary sex-characteristics … _these_ are what develop over time, and are driven _exclusively_ by testosterone & estrogen levels. Not by chromosomes - which is of course exactly the point you're making. 😀 In fact, the Y-chromosome has mostly junk-genes. Only 30-ish actually do something. Of those, only 6ish of those genes are unique to men: the SRY-gene, which only does anything during fetal development, and several genes that are involved in the creation of sperm. [Numbers are from the Wikipedia article on the Y-chromosome.] So again: you are correct! Genes don't "carve sex in stone at birth". Reproductive primary- and secondary-sex-characteristics are the result of a complex chain of events, _starting_ with the presence or absence of that SRY-gene, but continuing due to the maturing endocrine system and changing hormone levels.
@@John_Weiss Hey! Sorry, I think it was unclear-- I was using this example because it was a response to a comment implying that sex = genitals and genitals are set at birth. This is why I referred back to the fact that genital development continues beyond the womb, but I absolutely agree. And yeah, it is sort of funny that the Y-chromosome is almost entirely noncoding and that the SRY can actually jump to an X chromosome, producing phenotypically identical males without Y chromosomes. What I find really cool about that is that you get all of the benefits of homozygosity (much lower risk of recessive genetic disorders because you've got twice the X chromosome) but still get sexual differentiation to the full extent.

The only good kind of gender reveal party is the one my friend's going to have. He's making a cake for his family with his pronouns and chosen name on it.
"the amount of gay people are increasing" reminds me of the flow chart showing left-handedness increasing exponentially as kids stopped being beaten for being left-handed...
I keep seeing stories of 13-year-olds realising they're non-binary and I'm here like... why couldn't I have figured that out so young? Puberty would have been slightly less traumatic if I knew that insatiable feeling of discomfort was gender dysphoria!!

I am personally more inclined to believe that being trans or nonbinary is more akin to Alchemy rather than godhood. Although non-binaries have a stronger case for godliness since they've transcended the binary
"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost [...]. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth".
@@normalhuman9878 I chose the label nonbinary precisely because I feel literal gender-transcendence, in a way. My identity has all genders and no gender at the same time, for lack of a better explanation. My autism-influenced gender is inherently vague, fluid and hard to describe, so non-binary it's basically the best I can say, bc if I try to describe my identity in detail they'll think I'm some sort of dangerous eldritch horror, instead of a gentle but wordy neurodivergent person 😂
The pod cast dude having an epiphany about reproductive rights is actually SO satisfying. Just hearing guys actually thinking and making conclusions from ACTUALLY logic and not "alpha" logic gives me hope. A LOT of hope.
If I ever do a gender reveal party, I’m making a cake reveal but the color won’t be blue or pink, but instead it’s just a regular cake because I don’t know either. It’s a baby.
What I thinks funny. Is they have to draw this line on what's natural and unnatural to be transphobic. Like am I not the God of myself if I make any active choice that changed my body? If we all lived just the straight path for survival. None of us would be fit. I'm overweight and currently taking steps to lose weight by using a bike for commuting and cutting down on calories despite natural cravings. So I'm defying that little set bit for me. Does that immediately mean that I am worshipping myself and creating myself in my own image as a God? Where is the line for them. I truly do wonder this. Is it against God to have life saving surgery? A vasectomy? Or is it (as we all know it is) a giant pile of hypocrisy so the ones who wish ti tear others down have a self made reason to do so?

I’m glad you’re not in the same place anymore and grew up more mature and such, welcome to the cult!
A lot of people are where you were. I'm guessing you grew up in a very conservative or general close-minded location/family, right? A lot of youths feel they have to be what their family and peers make them to be, and won't realize this until later on in life. I learned it early on, thanks to very open-minded family and friends, but when you have outside influences telling you day after day that 'gays are wrong,' it's hard to think to one's self as "AM I in the right here?"
I wanna just point out that thinking for yourself is important.

As an added bonus, imagine how upset transphobes would be at their "tradition" being used to affirm the very identities they deny exist.

I don’t judge the woman who first invented gender reveal parties. From my understanding, she had multiple miscarriages before that kid and the first gender reveal party. She was celebrating the simple fact that her pregnancy had gotten far enough along to let her know the sex of the baby. (Plus, her child ended up identifying as something other than what they were assigned at birth, and she was cool and accepting of it.)
I DO, however, judge the parents who do gender reveal parties and set fires to forests, as well as the videos of dads throwing little temper tantrums because they’re having a girl instead of a boy.
As always, there's no inherently bad things there's just excess or absence of something that can be harmful ^^
Gender party are fine, although they're technically sex reveal party, when it's just a cake or a balloon. It's when you want to do something grandiose to impress neighbours taht troubles begin XD
And honestly, there's so much troules with pregnancies, pregnant women deserve all the parties they want XD

@@sad_doggo2504 lol until proven otherwise. Sure you can take guesses, but you have no proof until the kid can make actual decisions
Fun thing. I'm female. Assigned female at birth female with female bits-and-bobs. My body hates estrogen so much that when I went on a low-dose estrogen/progesterone pill to try and get rid of unsightly facial and body hair, my body tried to kill itself with blood clots! :D Now, if I ever choose to get pregnant, which increases estrogen, there is a chance my body will create blood clots that could destroy my heart, lungs, brain, other organs, or even the baby! :D Such fun! Why is the human body so god-damned flawed? lol
No fudging idea. I somehow was born upside down and now have chronic pain everywhere, almost constant migraines, and an iron deficiency. How does being born upside down equate to all that!?

hello, returning to this channel after discovering my gender identity coming out as trans to my parents a few months ago, and times have been tough, these videos have genuinely made me feel better about myself, keep up the work!
You got this pal.
Man.. that second one,, "it's a religion" argument gets reaaaal shaky when they're always demanding that we have to respect THEIR religions...
Also shaky when you consider that it’s not a religion and nobody claimed it is one.
@@DeathnoteBB I know that. But flipping their logic back on 'em
"It's a religion"
Okay, then it's protected by the Constitution, if you attack my religion, I can sue you :p
@@krankarvolund7771 YEAH
Hearing you say “yeah trans men are men” just made me smile. I’ve been going through some ups and downs with my dysphoria so that was really nice to hear. Thanks OT❤️
Trans men are men and ALWAYS will be, no matter if their brains glitch and tell them that they shouldn't identify as the gender that best represents their internal sense of self. Don't forget that, ok? 🥰
You are valid.
Here quick take this! (Hands you a masc gender and runs off cackling into the night followed by the gender police)
Trans men ARE men weather others see it or not. If someone is to nearsighted to recognize you and thinks you are your sibling that does not make you your sibling. Unfortunately some people are just emotionally nearsighted.
Honestly, same. OT's videos are always awesome.
8:36 the fact Blaire white is trans too just makes this 10x funnier like, m'am did you forget you yourself are the very people you're making fun of
She doesn't care. She did a group interview with other people from the lgbtq+ for vice I think and just wow. She doesn't believe that someone, like myself can be non binary because we don't get surgeries. If you want to find an amazing trans youtuber Philosophy Tube is a great places to start
Yeah she’s just… a lot. I can’t even care to find callouts about her (and I love watching/reading callouts) because the doublethink makes my head want to explode
Some girls get bottom surgery and are like "Transgender?? I hardly know 'er!" LOL
@@shineydeathpony85 Yeah, Blaire’s a hardcore transmedicalist who loathes the overwhelming majority of the trans community (including plenty of folks who have medically transitioned). I always wonder how much of her public persona is just utterly amoral pandering to conservatives who enjoy seeing a "good" (very feminine, fully passing, medically transitioned adult, pretty and conservative) trans person demonizing the trans community. She basically a Ann Coulter clone with an XY chromosome angle.

the bit about "gender never changes" reminded me of a realization I had the other day -- I was confused why some people would claim "trans-sexual" as a self-descriptor, but then I realized transgender is an oxymoron, considering that usually a trans person's gender is the one thing that _doesn't_ change
What do you mean gender gender doesnt change? Ofc it can change its a social construct. It has changed in the past and it will continue to change in the future. But im curious why you think gender doesnt change
@@ravenoctober9936 I would say the part that's a social construct is more like gender role or gender expression.
*sigh* Even as a straight cis dude, I look at the way people try to talk about or berate the trans community, and the LGBT+ community as a whole, and it just leaves me sad and confused. In the end, it's simply people getting way too worked up and upset over things that frankly do not concern or affect them. They want control, and hate that they can't have it.
Y'all are beautiful and amazing, and I wish all of you nothing but the best in your lives. Stay strong
It is my sincere hope that one day people getting way too worked up and upset over things that do not concern or affect them will be a DSM-recognized mental health disorder.
every time I see a Cis I think "This mf is so lucky to be happy with their gender"
2:50 My dad tried to tell me that women have XY chromosomes when presenting his "research" on why I cant possibly be trans and I almost said "So I'm man, and you agree!" 😂
I only recently found out that (cis) men are XY because fetuses start out with XX, but sometimes the fourth ‘leg’ on an X breaks and turns it into a Y
…I just wanted to share this fact I recently learned XD
@@John_Weiss I appreciate the information but I must inform you this is now beyond me but I wish you the best in educating more folks about genetics

I've had people give me gender euphoria by saying I was never going to be a real woman. The hilarious thing is the same person also wouldn't call me a man. They were so confused by me being nonbinary that they pretty much confirmed how I felt about myself while trying to be harmful. It's AMAZING
"we set a whole MOUNTAIN on fire for this gender reveal party. if it turns out we were wrong, well... WE'LL DO IT ALL OVER AGAIN IN A DIFFERENT COLOR!" - parents that just want to party and destroy things in the process
I once saw a post that read "color-code your babies, so people know what genitals they have" and it made me laugh. Also "femininity" and "masculinity" are words to describe one's gender expression, which is different from gender identity and biological sex. A cis man prefer to dress and act more feminine but still identify as a man. I think it's important that everyone learn the differences between "sex" "gender identity" and "gender expression" because I often see the terms for these ideas being mixed up, and they are separate concepts with separate terms

In some parts of China, in certain time periods, trans people were seen as amazing and rare. They would be traded between villages as a peace sign, because trans people were so rare and cool it was a whole gift. I can’t speak for all of Chinese history, but I know this happened.
I've often seen people respond to questions like the one presented at 12:15 with just that one diagram from World War Whichever showing where bullet holes were found in planes returning to bases.
Out LGBTQ+ people living in more accepting times and places are just the ones that made it back to base.

5:34 I love how this jacket could be worn by either a transphobe or a trans man.
Transphobes: "bUt MaH bAsiC BiOloGy!"
Literally any area of biology even slightly more advanced than the barebones basics: ^^^
In fact, the Y-chromosome has mostly junk-genes. Only 30-ish actually do something. Of those, only 6ish of those genes are unique to men: the SRY-gene, which only does anything during fetal development, and several genes that are involved in the creation of sperm. [Numbers are from the Wikipedia article on the Y-chromosome.]
So again: you are correct!
