SSP Refreshments, also known as Mudanna Hotel, Mixing Hotel, Jayanagar, Bangalore, serves rare Bangalore Idli, Acrey Idli, Acre idli, Ikrey Idli, Pulav, Vegetable Pulav, Palav, Chitranna, Vada, Uppitu, Mosaru Anna, Vegetarian Breakfast, Bangalore, Breakfast, Idli, Chutney, Mudanna Pulav
With recipes gleaned from his father-in-law, Devaraju and his wife began a small venture out of their home nearly 30 years ago, serving what is now a rare Bangalore breakfast delicacy, the Acrey Idli. Since then, SSP Refreshment House has amassed a formidable reputation for its limited menu, an aromatic vegetable pulav, chitranna and a couple of other dishes, that run out not too long from the time they open doors to their home at 7 am.
Food Lovers’ editor, Kripal Amanna savours some of the dishes and also peeps into the kitchen to chat with the family and catch the making of the now-largely-lost Bengaluru Acrey Idli. Enjoy!
Acrey Idli
The idli is soft and unbelievably pliable, melts in the mouth when hot. You can smell the gentle sweet aroma of the batter which is perfectly fermented rendering a springy fluffiness to the idli. The thick, spicy lentil chutney with flecks of dry coconut makes for a great accompaniment.

You can taste the gentle tartness of the lemon, the flavour of cumin and pointed notes of green chilli on the palate, the lentils in the seasoning make for a nice bite.

A flavourful pulav with the lingering warmth that comes from spices such as cinnamon and cloves, this is what draws customers to SSP. There’s the spicy kick of green chilli, but juxtaposed against the other ingredients, its hit is not the sort that obliterates your tastebuds. The seasoned chutney served alongside adds a layer of pleasing nuttiness.

Sitting in Hubli and watching I can literally feel that Idly is melting in the mouth
Acre Idli or Thattai idli is regular in my home.
People may be surprised but I am the chef who introduced Idli dosai ,Pesraatu Dhokla batters commercially in Texas.
I had 10 huge batter grinding machines.
I love this form of Idli because steam cooking is better than usual Idli steaming.
I am so happy that it is the beauty of food that matters and not the small or large place where it is offered.

Also i would salute u & ur team Kirpal sir for the hard work u do to show the Back side process means the cooking process. Its not a easy job when the kitchens r warm & hot at the same time. The sweat coming from u shows how hot the kitchens r while u shoot. 4 to 5 items not bad to fill the tummy. Thank u Kirpal sir for showing such a nice place.
