I don't think that playing as a striker is what makes you score lots of goals. It's the strikers instinct and awareness which allows you to do that, and Wazza had that kind of an insight in the game. He had qualities of a midfielder with his passing, qualities of a striker with his finishing. He could even play as a half-winger with such abilities. What that means to me is that he would and had preferred a free role in the attacking third with the pace, technique and power he's got. So I disagree that he would've scored more goals had he played as a striker all the time, he could even score less. He needed that free role behind the striker, as a second striker that often drops deep.
@@ataerenarslan1693 The second striker is stil a striker, what Tyler was talking about were those many games he spent playing in the midfield area, I even remember seeing him play defensive mid in a game, of course he will score less if he's that far away from the goal
@@jafsantos Yeah dude I see your point and his. Obviously, if you're far from the goal you won't be able to score as much. What I mean by the second striker is not the guy who actually does all that "backing up to the opponent" or "asking the ball to feet". To me it gives the sense of a player who wants to help the build up play a bit deeper and with Rooney's game knowledge, perspective, insight, whatever you'd call it, he could set up the play and be in the goal scoring area at the right time to bang it in too. I don't think the guy was ever meant to be the lone striker right up top. Of course he had his games as the lone striker and did well with them too, but where he really stood out was the second striker role that I just described.
(But I also gotta say that playing him as a midfielder is really trashing all his goalscoring capabilities too. So what I'm describing is not entirely a midfielder or entirely a striker. He was something in between right on great balance.)

It's like this weird paradox where sadness and happiness exists in the same place. It's something all uniteds fan will get. Brings back too many memories this. Me and my mate grew up living and breathing United. Wayne Rooney was my favourite player he was literally my idol. He knew how to tear it up. Sad that he’s lost his mojo. He was a big part of the reason that my team were champions back in the day.
