  • In this video I tell the story of driving the very first Cadillac Allante Prototype back in the fall of 1985 (including pictures). I also show an excellent 1987 model at Harvey Auto Outlet in Grand Rapids Michigan that is for sale. And of course no conversation about the Allante is complete without discussing the crazy production line the car went thru. Enjoy !

I have to share same sentiment. My dad bought two of them and drove them at 17 years old and it was a mind blowing experience. People followed me home and all the attraction by bystanders was so surreal. My dad’s first one was Italian red with tan interior. Looked like a Ferrari.
Imagine going on dates as a 18-20 year old.

So many car youtubers entertain their audiences with sardonic narratives about this car. I appreciate your respectful, well researched, and carefully planned video. I owned a '90, sold it 16 years ago, and enjoyed and just sold an XLR last summer, and I'm about to purchase an '87 Allante that has been well treated throughout its 35 year life. Allantes are terrific cars, certainly not as refined as the XLR, but worthy of ownership as an occasional car for perfect summer, top down weather.

It was an exciting experience for an 18 year old kid who grew up in "The Motor City" to say he drove an important prototype like this. Thanks for your comment.

Nice video and a terrific story! Those pictures you took with your “35mm camera” came out great and it was so cool that you could show the actual car you drove.

Loved hearing your story Tom, I still think the Allante is under-appreciated for what it showed Cadillac could do back then, would love it if they made a modern Allante and gave it a proper name instead of a 3 letter one

What car doesn't leak oil when it gets old? You made it sound like it leaked oil right out the factory- which is simply not true.
