    The strange thing is the Dave Clark Five never appeared on Ready Steady Go. Dave put in clips of the band from other shows when he bought the rights to Ready Steady Go so it looked like they were on it.

  • @millerswell
    @millerswell 4 года назад +5

    Sadly, most of the RSG! archive has been lost. What survives runs (as far as I know) to about four or five complete or near-complete shows plus a batch of clips from a few others. Most of this dates from the first 18 months or so of the show's original run - from October 1963 up to early 1965. After this, only two shows are known to exist anywhere near complete - one from July 1965, and the "Otis Redding Special" from September 1966. Again, a few clips from various other shows still survive.
    A book is coming out in the late summer or early autumn of 2020 telling the full history of RSG! (I didn't write it, sadly) and will include a complete and comprehensive guide to EVERY show broadcast between 1963 and 1966, including details of who appeared on each show, what songs they performed and exactly what footage is known to still exist.

    The 1960s Rolling Stones are the REAL Rolling Stones. It just seems in the subsequent decades the group was a rock business establishment. No complaints about the standard of the 70s and 80s however, as the Stones always maintained a high level of craftsmanship, but I just think the 1960s was their coolest image.

    Although produced in Britain at the height of the British Invasion, and quite popuilar in the UK, "Ready, Steady Go!" should have also been successful in the United States.
    But no American network picked-up the show, perhaps because it was in black-and-white, at a time when ABC, CBS and NBC were converting to full-color broadcasting.
    Had "RSG" been in colo(u)r, chances are it would have been seen in and become a big hit in the 'States during 1964-66 as well.

    The greatest TV pop show ever, reduced to an abominably-edited mess. RSG was available years ago on VHS, which tapes are now very hard to get and carry a price-tag to match. And despite the screen at the end of this sequence, I've never been able to find RSG on DVD. How about it, Dave?

  • @junction666
    @junction666 13 лет назад +2

    So the Beachboys invented surfing did they?....I'm not sure that any of them actually did surf! I don't think I missed one broadcast of RSG it was "Fab". During an interview with P J "Call me Jim" Proby (I think) Cathy Mcgowan said that she noticed his nails on his right hand were much longer than those on the left "Is that to strum a guitar?" she asked "No!" he said..."It's because I can't hold the scissors very well in my lefthand to cut them!"....PRICELESS! Great post thanks!

    • @ianthomas5955
      @ianthomas5955 Год назад

      Well picked up, Murphy - no, the Beach Boys did NOT invent surf music. It was Jan & Dean, their close friends, who did, making the early recordings in Jan Berry's garage. Only Dennis Wilson actually surfed!

    Remind me how RSG was recorded back then. The bands (groups as we then called them) seem to be lip-synching rather badly. Did they come in for the afternoon's rehearsal, lay down the track and then mime to it later when the show went live? Or were they miming to the record?

    • @Efferpheasants
      @Efferpheasants 2 года назад

      The miming stopped when they moved to a bigger studio around 65. Complicated music arrangements just could not be accommodated in the smaller studio due to so much public wanting to be there. TOTPs had its own orchestra and backing singers so if a tune needed strings etc that would be recorded as a backing track in the afternoon..
