Thanks for the tip. I noticed similar with my recent Tamarillo purchase. It had been rooting into the ground at the nursery. I repotted it the day I bought it because of this.
Thanks for the video. Very interesting to see how huge that tap root was. I have a mulberry cutting in a pot for now that will go in my garden and I have other cuttings that may stay in pots, depending on how much time I have to get them situated in safe area away from water pipes. They certainly are vigorous trees.
Will that tap root continue to grow into the ground again in that 15 gallon container? If a customer buys the 15 gallon, then plants it into the ground, with the tree continue to grow the tap root and be as stable as the small tree.
Sir i have Pakistani long black and white both mulberries but their fruits size small ... what is the standard size of container do u suggest for best results?
Can I keep a mulberry in 32 gallon forever? I have a pool in my yard and my house 15 feet from pakistan mullbery and 15 from pool don't want roots to damage my house
May I ask. How long can a person keep a fruit tree in a container? I'm renting a house at the moment and I plan on buying myself land in a few years. I don't want to plant my stuff in the ground here. Can a tree last like maybe 3 years in a pot by pruning it?
@musaadfelton3909 As mentioned in the video, you can do something called root pruning if you intend to keep it for many years in a container. For most trees, every 2-3 years, during the dormant season, take them out of the pot and prune the roots back. Try to keep the tap root in tact because they might become stunted and end up being a mulberry bush if they don't have their tap root. Freshen the soil in the container and repot the tree. Root pruning is how bonsai trees are made. So technically you could keep it in a pot indefinitely if you don't intend to put it in the ground. However, mulberries are very vigorous growers so you might have to do this every year rather than every 2-3 years. Good luck.
Am I understanding this right? You plant them in 5 gallon pots with the bottom removed, let the roots grow through into the ground then root prune? If not, how did they root through the bottom of the container?
But a mulberry grown from a cutting doesn’t have a taproot right?? At least from the info I’ve seen on Mangoes, they reccomend grafting because the root system is stronger than an air layered root system. Are mulberries different? Thank you for the information!
Grew up in Tucson, we had a huge pakistan mulberry tree in the front yard.. unfortunately, as a kid, didnt know the berries were edible!! (arugh!) It was a bird's Heaven! it was a fun climbing tree tho.. (could hide up there from the school truant officer when I ditched school ( lol) Loved this tree! There was some disease that killed many mulberry trees and we lost ours. Want another. Hope that issue/disease is far gone.
Have you ever experienced the root in the ground continue to grow into another tree? Would I need to dig all those in ground roots out? I would love a Pakistani but don’t want in ground because of a pool nearby. Would like to keep one in a pot, even if I only get less the 100 Mulberries. Thank you for your time, John
If you let it grow long enough (several years) yes it will grow a new tree. But the top part you pruned will most likely die. This is why I don't recommend letting them grow in the ground longer than a year before pruning.
Blessed are those who plant trees especially mulberry trees 👍🇬🇧Thanks from Nature ❕

yes about 25% just to be safe.

Hi, is it safe to prune the roots if my location is hot all year? There is no winter to be dormant. I want to keep it in a container.
just prune the canopy as well.

If not, how did they root through the bottom of the container?
nope. Roots grow out the drainage holes. I don't want them to root thru the pot into the ground.
Hi! Thank you for explaning tap root system , does this grows in zone 5 (montreal CAN) if it does can I buy it delivered.
too cold :(
Might try a native black mulberry.
Good growing tips. Thank you.

they still develop thick deep roots.

Just received a Pakistan Mulberry baby from a neighbor as a gift. What are the best secrets to keep it growing in Texas?
Regards from Pakistan
Can I grow Mulberry in the container? Hopefully will get the berry 😊
short term yes, not long term.
How do I get a list of trees without tap roots?
I don't have a list but it'd probably be easier to simply research the tree you're interested in rather than looking thru a list.
Have you ever experienced the root in the ground continue to grow into another tree?

He is always upset about something or other anyways.
Gods help you if you put that pot on bare ground....mulberry roots are THE BEST at seeking nutrients!
