      Seyla_11B did you get any fruit?

    • @hybrid2003

      Yes, but the fruit wasn't tasty enough to keep the 2 plants.

      I take it back, i kept the Nigra type. The fruit this year is tastier. The alba type I used the root stock for grafting.

    So they will survive forever in a pot or would eventually have to be replanted into the ground? I'm looking to keep a small one like that, no bigger but I'm worried it would die from the lack of space? Also, would any type of mulberry tree work in a pot or just this one specifically?

    • @LogeesPlants
      @LogeesPlants  8 лет назад +5

      They can be grown in pots for many years especially the Dwarf ever bearing and the Issai. After many years you might need to root prune them in early spring but we just keep feeding them and they grow in the same pots for decades. That said the larger growing varieties like Illinoi ever bearing and Pakistan would need root pruned every few years and hard top pruning every year.

    I know that when checking a plant to see if it needs water, you usually just stick your finger an inch into the soil and see if it's dry or not. But how much water should you be giving it and how often? I have a plant (from a clipping) in a kind of bigger pot (maybe 8 inches in diameter) and I think I've been giving it more than 3 cups. But I fear that I'm over watering it.

    I took a cutting from a large mulberry tree and rooted it. Will I have a problem growing it small and indoors since it came from such a big tree?

    • @LogeesPlants
      @LogeesPlants  5 лет назад +2

      If you want to keep it on the small side, you just have to make sure to keep up on the pruning. Also, grow in full sun.

      Of course! Spacing needs to be at least 15 ft between trees.

    Does the “Issai” mulberry need a chilling or “dormant” period or is it ok to bring inside under a light for the winter?

    Our Wild Mulberrys grew like weeds & would morph into bushes if not trimmed. Trimmed they grow into tall trees. They didn't require any care.

    Hello, I recently purchased Issai and only found the same general care information on both the regular dwarf and the Issai regarding outdoor winter hardiness. I live in Redmond Washington zone 8a. Is it better or necessary for it to go through winter dormancy? Or should I try to protect it or even bring it inside under lights for the winter? I would prefer to leave it outside if I can. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

    • @LogeesPlants
      @LogeesPlants  5 лет назад +1

      You can leave the plant outdoors, however, it will need to be mulched the first few years to protect the root system. When the plant is outdoors, it will go dormant during the winter.

    Hello Mr Martin, I purchased a Issai mulberry from your nursery . I'm very happy with the new growth but would like to know should I grow as a tree or bush? I would like for it to become a tree . When should I prune? Ohio zone 6. Thanks in advance.

    • @LogeesPlants
      @LogeesPlants  6 лет назад

      This mulberry is a Japanese cultivar that flowers and fruits successively throughout the growing season. Its fruit is much larger than the ‘Dwarf Everbearing’ and the growth is heavier with a more open growth habit. It starts fruiting at an early age and can be maintained in a pot for years to come with a little help from the pruning shears.

    can you share your fertz ratio ? i grown mine from cuttings , for a year or two , dont even have fruits .sad

    • @LogeesPlants
      @LogeesPlants  8 лет назад +8

      A balanced fertilizer will do the trick. If they are not fruiting and the cutting came from fruiting plants then if could be to much nitrogen. Try a fertilzer that has a ratio like 7-9-5. Be sure they are in full sun and don’t over pot. Sometimes just restricting the root system will do it. Some varieties of mulberry take long to come into fruit than others when propagated form cutting..

    I live in Zone 10a and have a dwarf everbearing mulberry starter plant. You say full sun but it gets scorching out here during the summer, are you sure it's ok in my zone? Since it is a small plant still, I've been keeping it in partial sun just in case. Do I have to stake it?

    • @LogeesPlants
      @LogeesPlants  8 лет назад +1

      It will take full sun even in the southern US. If grown under high light it doesn’t need to be staked.

    Question, i got a mulberry tree from my uncles yard three years ago he told me it will fruit in three years, so it did started to fruit last year but its fruit like popped into pale yellow flowers and falls off. This year every branch has countless fruit like berries and its starting to fall again. Can u tell me whats happening to my tree? Will i get any fruits? I have two wild ones 8 ft tall doing same thing!

      Do you happen to know the NPK value on the fertilizer that you're using? The plants generally flower before fruiting.
