Except most of the things that Zelda does have already been done in countless other games (climb anywhere: Assassin's Creed / emergent physics interactions with tools and elements: literally any immersive sim from Thief to Deus Ex / finding your way without objective markers: any RPG pre-2007), but nobody noticed because they weren't made by Nintendo and called Zelda. No doubt it's a good game, but it gets credit for inventing things it just borrowed and refined a bit.
@@ninjadodovideos It doesn't get credits for inventing things, it gets credits for putting all of them in a single beautiful game, and for giving you this incredible feeling of being free. And this, no other game has done it before BotW.
@@ninjadodovideos I don't think anyone claimed that BotW invented pre-existing mechanics. But, Assassins's Creed's climbing is on very visible/recognizable rails, BotW let's you climb anything except dungeon and shrine walls. Interactions in BotW are stacking, instead of bloated by numerous single mechanic items. Finding your way without obj. markers is subjective here. Some people will easily recognize areas of the map while others will get lost and waste time that they'd rather spend doing a quest. But I'd argue that BotW's map is both easily navigable and recognizable after spending time in an area. *EDIT*Especially with the size of the map. *EDIT* Also with how you can place markers by looking through a scope further helps to facilitate exploration and learning the map. Not something a lot of other games, especially pre-2007 have done. It's all of these mechanics that come together to make this master-piece of gaming. As for the OP's comment and the quote from GFReviews' BF. It very much sums up the freedom presented in BotW and the lack-thereof in other games, open-world or not.
ninjadodo - Assassin’s Creed climbing system was fucking broken. Sometimes, it worked, sometimes, it didn’t. It is better now after Origins. But that’s because they copied BotW simplified version of the system that works much better. - Thief and Deus Ex are cool. But it’s a different kind of environment interaction. - Any RPG with no objective markers and before 2007 are basically CRPG which also are still big in the market nowadays. But it also gives different experience, ultimately because of the genre. Look, BotW doesn’t get its credit because of originality. Hell, pretty much anything created now are based off of something from before 2000. BotW gets its credit for being one hell of a creative video game. It does almost everything better than those that try to do the same thing. And most importantly, it celebrates player’s creativity, curiosity and explorations. Which is rare for any other to accomplish in the same level.
@@Thaibiohazard123 Assassin's Creed 1 pioneered seamless free climbing which they improved and expanded on through the series, and while it was by no means perfect (occasional misreading of player intent etc), it was hardly "fucking broken"; it worked fine. @Schnieder6: "Assassins's Creed's climbing is on very visible/recognizable rails" No, you've been able to freely climb any building in any way (anything with something to hold on to) since the first game and since AC Origins any rock too (unlike say Uncharted or modern Tomb Raider, where you just have the yellow/white path planned out for you). Zelda merely iterated on that a bit and made a simpler version... Given that they came out the same year (March/October) I seriously doubt BotW had any influence on AC Origins climbing because a couple months before release is waaay too late to be changing your entire navigation system... that kinda stuff is normally prototyped and locked in much earlier. Honestly I haven't seen anything in BotW that hasn't been done *as good or better* in other games but with a more interesting world and characters. I like some of the Zelda games but the world is so hyper-generic and it's just the same story over and over again... and over. I hate to be *that guy* as I don't begrudge people their favourites - you like what you like and that's cool - but the way BotW is put on this pedestal while other more inventive games (whether it's in mechanics or art or world-building) get sidelined kinda bugs me.

I have bought zelda Botw almost a year after its release, because i was very busy with all the mario oddysey stuff and i was still playing pokemon on the 3ds. But wen i finally got it, i couldn't put my switch down. It was like being sucked up in a giant new world that was filled with secrets, story, and easter eggs. I have grown up with the legend of zelda too, and i never imagined a open-world zelda game. I am so grateful for this game to be in my life, because it helped me to believe that everything is possible, and that koroks stink. I am eternally grateful. Thank you nintendo.

I absolutely love Zelda botw!! I have never played videogames before, it was my husband who introduced me to them. I refused at the begining because it's seems to difficult for me to manage all the controls. But now I play every single day, hopping this game never ends.
The way you explained everything is probably exactly what my husband went through when he bought this for me. Because I, too, grew up playing the legend of zelda 😌

03:55 Right there you get a thumbs up and I subscribed a while ago. You understand the music better than "professional" video game journalists. There are people who do this for a living, much longer than you have so far, who criticize the music for matching the environment and tone of the game. Which is what ambient music is supposed to do. "I don't like the music, it is too quiet." Yeah, because everyone in Hyrule were slaughtered, Link barely survived and Zelda had to sacrifice herself to hold back Ganon from finishing off everyone else.
THEN WHO'S PLAYING THE PIANO, BLACKPANTHERN7? WHO. IS PLAYING. THE PIANO? (this comment is like 99% tongue-in-cheek Simpson's quote and like 5% "no but seriously music in LoZ games is freakin' important and a soundtrack with more than 3 tunes would have been great okay thanks", with a 4% margin of error.)
thanks for making this point. i seriously don't get people who say the music sucks in this game or is non-existent. I usually just let people have their opinions because it's usually a matter of taste, but in this, those people are DEAD WRONG and i can only assume they are total plebs for not getting it. the music in this game is brilliantly arranged and curated. It's perfect for its respective settings from when it needs to showcase how nature has grown over civilization or the heart-pounding drive that is the hyrule castle theme once you step beyond its gates. everything was so well done (don't even get me started on the insanely awesome Dark Beast Ganon phase music) and the fact some people, especially those that consider themselves knowledgeable, can't grasp that, makes me question their brain functionality.
Well I'd argue that there's a difference between the music being bad and then of being atypical of Zelda, the latter of which it definitely is. Much like the lack of proper dungeons. Now is this necessarily worse with the absence of these elements? I would say not. However it is different and it would not be wrong to say that perhaps those elements are part of what makes Zelda... well, Zelda. And that's a perfectly valid stance to have. People just articulate things badly when they're feeling cheated and that's the truth.

It very much sums up the freedom presented in BotW and the lack-thereof in other games, open-world or not.
ninjadodo
- Assassin’s Creed climbing system was fucking broken.
It'll be really cute when this series turns to "Should your Fiancé Play...?"
I really hope it doesn't become 'Should your scumbag-cheating-boyfriend-who-sleeps-on-the-couch-now play...?' lol

I've just discovered your channel and it's the funniest thing I've found in a while. Congrats! I subscribe!
Thank you!
