Their CVT and grossly unreliable trucks is what did them in. I seriously considered buying a new 2015 V6 Altima 10 years ago and the only reason I didn't was because it had a CVT, even though I loved everything else about the car.
In 1981 my uncle gave me a 1972 Datsun 510. Great car, tough, reliable, 4 speed standard, 4 doors. Then in 1988 I bought a Nissan Pulsar NX. Another great car, reliable, comfortable and very good on gas. I liked the T roof. So in 2018 I thought I would go the Nissan way again and bought a Pathfinder Tech, Absolute junk. far too many issues to list. They have to, to cut of the petro dollar supple chain to those countries who are investing huge on war arsenals such as countries from West Asia or the middle East
EV companies have a big problem - they refuse to convert an ICE vehicle to EV, which will create a cheap affordable EV. Most EVs have a lot of luxury or extra features that is not needed for a simple EV car.
This sight is just pushing the electric narrative like many other car talk shows .. trying to convince the public that paying crazy ass money for cars that still have never really been tested thoroughly will not make ppl run and buy it .. too long to charge , super high priced battery cost , quick draining in winter weather , and severe over pricing .. you’ll never beat the ICE vehicles .. the green scare and environmental nuts running the Global scheme has been exposed as hog wash and ideology that 90 % of the public doesn’t believe nor subscribe to

Nissans in my family since 1968. I owned a 91 Maxima and had troubles with the auto trans. My 2010 Altima 2.5s runs like a charm. No CVT issues. Not bad for a car that cost 20,000 dollar's new.

I owned a 1984 Nissan pickup truck and a 2001 Nissan Sentra, both of which I bought new. Both were lemons. At just after the warranty expired, around 45,000 miles on both vehicles, I had electrical issues. Both would stop running when on a highway without warning, causing me to coast to the shoulder. After a few minutes they would start up again and run for a while until the problem repeated itself. I took both to the dealer and they said that they couldn’t find out what the problem was caused by, or simply put they couldn’t duplicate the problem. Odd, same problem on two different models. For many consumers the question remains about Nissan products' quality and reliability which was the foundation of its past popularity. The new 2025 Murano model came out and it is slick! They even got rid of the CVT and increased the horsepower. They are headed in the right direction as long as they don't get crazy stupid with prices!
The CVT issues were back when they came out. Now if you take care of the transmission like you should with any, conventional auto or CVT, it will last just as long.
CVT demise of Nissan. They know it but still put it out there and gain poor reputation. I bought my Nissans before they went to this CVT and had manual gearboxes on both of my trucks and automatics on my used 260z and 280z all worked well other than the one computer went out on the 260z and had a used one from a scrap yard replace it. Would buy a Nissan with a manual transmission no CVT junk.
