Their CVT and grossly unreliable trucks is what did them in. I seriously considered buying a new 2015 V6 Altima 10 years ago and the only reason I didn't was because it had a CVT, even though I loved everything else about the car.

In 1981 my uncle gave me a 1972 Datsun 510. Great car, tough, reliable, 4 speed standard, 4 doors. Then in 1988 I bought a Nissan Pulsar NX. Another great car, reliable, comfortable and very good on gas. I liked the T roof. So in 2018 I thought I would go the Nissan way again and bought a Pathfinder Tech, Absolute junk. far too many issues to list. After a year of endless serious problems the dealer took it and gave me an Altima AWD. Unbelievable fuel mileage, very comfortable, but once again very unreliable.

I owned a 1984 Nissan pickup truck and a 2001 Nissan Sentra, both of which I bought new. Both were lemons. At just after the warranty expired, around 45,000 miles on both vehicles, I had electrical issues. Both would stop running when on a highway without warning, causing me to coast to the shoulder. After a few minutes they would start up again and run for a while until the problem repeated itself. I took both to the dealer and they said that they couldn’t find out what the problem was caused by, or simply put they couldn’t duplicate the problem. Odd, same problem on two different models. Anyway Nissan wouldn’t stand behind the vehicles because they were just beyond warranty. I’ll never buy a Nissan again.

The only short term solution is for Nissan to offer a better and longer term warranty much like Hyundai/Kia does. If Nissan does not show it is willing to take on the burden of reestablishing its quality and reliability then why must consumers believe it is committed to this in the future?

I bought my Nissans before they went to this CVT and had manual gearboxes on both of my trucks and automatics on my used 260z and 280z all worked well other than the one computer went out on the 260z and had a used one from a scrap yard replace it. I’ve never owned a car with so many problems and my first vehicle was a neon! Electronic issues, steering rack went, exhaust just fell apart at the muffler and then the transmission….that was the final straw. We pleaded with the dealership and then Nissan Canada. They just refused to stand behind their products. I remember telling them (in my 20s) I had already owned 3 of their vehicles and would being buying many more in my lifetime, but would never touch Nissan again if they didn’t make this right.
