- We are joined by Pete Pardo from Sea of Tranquility and Jordan Blum from Loudwire to pick which albums from the past 10 years (2014-2024) will be considered classics in 25 years.
Any show with Pete is a homerun. Nice 👍 💯
Leprous Pitfalls is an instant classic. They are the absolute masters of really innovative and original prog music
Agreed👍
They have a new album coming out soon too. Very excited!
Prefer Malina and their earlier stuff.
Great album
I think Melina is the best metal and prog album of the last 10 years ✌🏽
Empath, Hand. Cannot Erase., Pale Communion and The Similitude Of A Dream are in my top 5 also. Not mentioned was The Work by Rivers Of Nihil, an absolute masterpiece of a concept album!
👍🏻
For anyone else losing their mind trying to find that first album from his pronunciation alone - it's "Salighet" by "Jordsjø"
I think you should put links to the albums, in the video description.
Thanks!!! 😂
I was about to give up on deciphering this, and then I saw your comment!
Tkanks for picking Riverside ❤ I'm from Poland and they our best export band
An amazing band, I’m looking forward to seeing them in the UK next month
1- Present : This is not the end
2- Haken : Affinity
3- Banco : Orlando
4- Lalu : Paint the Sky
5- Kaipa : Urskog
In no specific order
Marillion - An hour before its dark
Devin Townsend - Empath
Leprous - Pitfalls
The Neal Morse Band - TSOAD
Tool - Fear Innoculum
Nice to hear Gazpacho mentioned. Almost picked one of them.
Riverside - Wasteland
Evergrey - Hymns For The Broken
Myrath - Legacy
Pain of Salvation - In The Passing Light Of Day
Amorphis - Halo
Thank you Vic for getting TSOAD in there, would have been a tragedy without it. Great to have Flying Colors, Wobbler, Riverside, Opeth, etc... all represented.
The Nospun album would be my pick for that classic prog metal concept album like op mindcrime and metropolis 2000
Amazing album.
I would like to thank you for introducing me to wobbler. Listened to the album mentioned and it is an instant classic
Right on Pete with « King For A Day » from Magic Pie.
I was sad Leprous and Frost* didn’t get mentions. Pitfalls and Falling Satellites are some of my favorite albums of all time. But you’ve given me a lot to check out! Great video!
Thanks! Great albums.
My list would be.... Marillion "An Hour Before It's Dark" & "Fear", Moon Safari "Himlabacken Vol. 2, Mystery "Redemption", Downes Braide Association "Halcyon Hymns", Mostly Autumn "The Ghost Moon Orchestra"
Love your videos. Please consider adding a list of the chosen albums to the show notes. Having to take notes as I'm watching is a pain in the keister.
Wow Roie, your picks are just about perfect!
Thanks! That's what I keep telling these guys. 😉
Yeah Flying Color’s great pick Roie. There’s absolutely no filler on this one.
Awesome episode… very interesting and good picks!
Thanks for having both Pete & Jordan on the podcast.
Here are my picks:
Bruce Soord - Luminescence
The Pineapple Thief - Your Wilderness
Marillion - An Hour Before It’s Dark & FEAR
Frost* - Day & Age
Riverside - ID. Entity
Tim Bowness - Flowers at the Scene
Steve Hackett - Wolflight & The Circus and the Nightwhale
Kansas - The Prelude Implicit
Porcupine Tree - C/C
Mastodon - Hushed & Grim
My top pick that deserves to be both an instant classic and Grammy nominated for album of the year is Peter Gabriel’s I/O. If it doesn’t earn that nom, then the selection committee will be a huge farce.
Great picks. Thanks!
With Marillion, I couldn't pick between "AHBID" and "Fear" either. One a hopeful album and the other a very dark album, but I can see both being future classics.
Sea of tranquility!
Great episode. For me it would be Omens by Elder, and Veil of Imagination by Wilderun. Both of no-skip albums for me. Was thinking Jordan would mention them since he was wearing the shirt I believe. They’re a band that doesn’t have enough recognition at this point. No one is really talking about them. But the album is phenomenal.
Glad to hear love for Pale Communion, such a great album. I'd probably pick In Cauda Venenum though as their best post Watershed album.
Also, everything The Dear Hunter has done! The Acts and their newer more funk/jazz infused sound. When you mentioned Queen as the band that could do anything, Dear Hunter comes to mind as the modern day equivalent of that for me.
My guy Pete coming with the Elder! Innate Passage is a masterpiece 🤘
Great topic and fun show. Nice to hear Moron Police mentioned, such a good album. I’d also include Thank You Scientist’s album Terraformer.
Thanks!
1. Marillion - An Hour Before it's Dark
2. Dream Theater - Distance Over Time
3. Ayreon - The Source
4. I.Q. - The Road of Bones
5. Arena The Theory of Molecular Inheritance
Devin Empath and Wilsons Hand cannot erase is my top two. But I think Beardfish are also very good on expressing emotions. To me, Beardfish Comfort zone is missing here. Finally, it would have been nice to keep one album per band, to get more variety to the list. Then maybe there would have been room for the latest albums by Orphaned land and the joyful Von Herzen Brothers. Prog needs more joyfullness and weirdness :) . Thank you for a great podcast
Thanks for watching!
Lots of Scandinavian band's.
Love them all but Kalandra's album The Line is one of the best Norwegian releases for years and the band is getting more International attention.
New album comming out this summer🤘
This could be cheating since it's probably considered a classic already but I of course have to mention Affinity by Haken💙💜❤️🤍🥰😃 Best prog metal album ever!!!
Other albums:
*Malina by Leprous
*Colors 2 by Between the buried and me
*Empath by Devin Townsend
2 albums from this year:
*Charcoal Grace by Caligula's horse
*Ihsahn by Ihsahn
👍🏻
Loved that show, I got quite a few albums on my to-listen list out of it! Personally I would have included "An hour before it's dark" by Marillion, really beautiful and emotional!
Thanks!
Totally agree on Marillion "AHBID"
Suprised to see Major Parkinson getting some love, they definitely don't get enough attention. Blackbox is such a wild and interesting ride
it is. All of their records are really. I recently picked them up on their bandcamp.
Superb topic. Well done, chaps. My pick would be Distant Satellites (2014) by Anathema (admittedly by default because Weather Systems is the classic).
Miss Anathema
@@progreport I think we all do.
Southern Empire Civilisation for sure. Otherwise bunch of fantastic picks - loved to see Styx and Kansas mentioned!
Thanks!
Jordsjø out of the gate! 👍🏼
Steven Wilson - Hand. Cannot. Erase.
Richard Dawson/Circle - Henki
Love the Jordsjo - Salighet pick Pete! Great album
Yeah great one
Chronicles of Father Robin!
Surprised F.E.A.R. by Marillion wasn't mentioned. There's been nothing better over the last 10 years as far as I'm concerned. I'd also include 'White Rainbow' by Mostly Autumn. Here's my top 5.
1. F. E. A. R. - Marillion
2. White Rainbow - Mostly Autumn
3. Kaleidoscope - Transatlantic
4. Similitude of a Dream - NMB
5. Hand Cannot Erase - Steven Wilson
Roie, you always mention FC's third album as your favorite, why the change of heart? Also, great honorable mention by Vic for Nova Collective. It's one of my favorite instrumental albums of all time., right up there with LTE.
No, I don't think that's true. I love Third Degree, but I think I've always said 2 is my favorite.
1. Big Big Train - English Electric Full Power
2. Steven Wilson - Hand.Cannot.Erase
3. The Neal Morse Band - Similitude of a Dream
4. Beardfish - Sleeping in the Traffic Pt2
5. Wobbler - Dwellers of the Deep
BBTEEFP before 2014
The Dear Hunter's Acts better be on this fucking list guys.
We love that band but just missed the cut
Slift - Ummon. Modern bonafide classic space rock album.
It's too bad Leprous didn't make this list. Or Wilderun, since Jordan is wearing the shirt! Some band's albums from the last decade will probably all be considered classics in 25 years, like Haken. My top five in no order (except HCE, since that is all time):
Steven Wilson - Hand. Cannot. Erase.
Wilderun - Veil of Imagination
Opeth - In Cauda Venanum (though I go back and forth between that and Pale Communion as my favorite from this time)
Leprous - Pitfalls (I do like Coal and Bilateral more, but those were earlier)
I'll probably have 10 albums in this last slot, but I'll probably have to go with Haken - Fauna.
Honorable mentions: Gazpacho - Fireworker, Riverside - Wasteland, Ihsahn - Amr
Honourable mention : Nova Collective : The Further Side
Voivod - The Wake . The only album that I think would rank as a classic,
Please, what's the swedish album from 2021 mentioned at 59:10?
Agusa!
@@comicbookgeezers Thx a lot! I had never heard of them. Gotta check them
Similitude of a Dream #1 for sure
Agreed
Echolyn - Echolyn (2012)
Hear me now and believe me later- Cheeto's Magazine's album, "Amazingous" from 2019 will be considered a classic in 20 years.
Jordan B nailed it
Nice topic!
Glad you enjoyed it
@@progreport perhaps an episode 2 on the near future? Moon Safari, IQ? Great podcast, channel and panel! Cheers!!!! BTW, a wheel of Prog on IQ would be much appreciated!!!! Prog on!
Angherr Shispa by Koenji Hyakkei is definitely a modern zeuhl classic!
Don’t know that one
@@progreport Have you listened to Magma? (Pete Pardo hates them.) They created the style known as zeuhl. There are some other great zeuhl bands like Eskaton, Weidorje, J.A.Caesar, Ruins, Bondage Fruit, Shub Niggurath, Universal Totem Orchestra...
No Leprous?
U rang? ;)
Viljans Öga by Änglagård...
Är den ungefär lika bra som hybris?
@@Nocturnal_Spectre Minst lika bra!
@@Nocturnal_Spectre Har du lyssnat på Gusliar av Pesniary? En prog opera från Belarus. Ett mästerverk!
@@bertkarlsson1421 Nej, det har jag inte. Men tack för rekommendationen! Jag ska lyssna på båda albumen👍
That third album from them was 2012…we were only looking at albums from the last 10 years.
ELDER!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
🤘🏻
PetroDragonic Apocalypse. It can't not be
My family album!
Ok, maybe not.
2015 Steven Wilson Hand. Cannot. Erase.
2021 Gojira Fortitude

2020 Spirit Adrift Enlightened In Eternity
2017 Mastodon Emperor of Sand
2017 Beast In Black Berserker

2019 Soen Lotus

Laura Meade-Most Dangerous woman in America.
Karmakanic-Dot
Izz-Don’t panic
Rickard sjoblom gungfly-Alone Together.
Nice choices
Sadly, my opinion doesn't hold too much hope for the future "classics" because the current generation of music listeners don't pay attention (or can't) so I believe it will be interesting if this same crew gets back together in 10-15 years, the only people that will still say that these discussed today are "classic" are the same people who are watching today.
