Thinking about the Rafaam fight, it's kind of insane how difficult it would be to win with a current day meta deck. Given that he gets to portal for free, even if we considered the impossible chance that he gets say a wisp (or penguin, 0 mana 1/1) every turn you would still be playing against a current meta deck + a free 1/1 every turn, and given that a 3-mana discount on any minion even given today's power creep is still going to be crazy, you're pretty much just playing against a current meta deck except just better most of the time. And with the explorer's deck. I mean in essence it makes sense because the intent of the developers was to have Rafaam steal a bad deck (and its obvious from the way he interacts with certain cards like magma rager) but imo it's pretty cool that the fight is in a sense future-proofed forever like that.
a free 1/1 every turn is just the equivalent of a normal hero power, but better, so yeah 99.99% of the time it will be impossible
i remember that the only way i could do this was to play a deck full of draw cards, and 0 attack minions, and wait for him to fill his board
I think that idea still gets turned on its head if you just go in with some complicated (but still meta) combo deck which the AI would obviously fail to properly use
Considering that fight was extremely difficult to beat on launch w/o building a custom deck designed to screw him. Yeah I agree.
After watching this 50 times, I can confirm that this is a certified hood classic

Technically we did beat the challenge. Death Knight decks won out in the end, even when Rafaam was playing it and shoving his scepter up our behind

Yo this series is cool as hell. As someone that started around Kobolds and Catacombs it's super fun to get to see all the old adventures I never saw
I mean, you were definitely not meant to give Rafaam a meta deck in heroic (since you already know the gimic), so its not surprising its basically impossible.
You know powercreep has gone too far when astelor feels better than most signature adventure cards

The challenge was to win using meta decks! And since rafaam takes your deck, I think it's perfectly fine if you skipped him.

I did this pretty close to release. The guy that makes spells/minions cost 11 and the skeleton dinosaur dude absolute fucking rocked me for hours and hours. Especially the fucking dino. Seeing you freak out about what his random card could be brought back some bad memories, but it was pretty funny. What an awful heroic hero power.
Staff of Origination is such a goated card back, I remember grinding my ass off for that back in the day. If you wanna do a real Chad move, you'll do Karazhan with Rainbow DK
I still think Rarran should use wild decks in these.

I feel like if Blizz made another either cool single player dungeon run or adventure the player base would grow again. These were the whole reason I enjoyed hs
This was by far the most difficult heroic adventure to finish, imo. I almost uninstalled after skelesaurus. So unfair.

I've always been kind of in awe at just how trash Skelesaurus' design is. Entirely uncreative, absolutely bland and flavorless, boring af fight, with it coming down to complete RNG whether you steamroll him or whether he gets like Deathwing on turn 1 (unless you use cheese strategies which you can employ on any boss, like switching Hero Powers and stuff like that). Just, terrible fight all around. No idea who designed that particular encounter, but I'm pretty sure they never even tried it out.
I felt the same way in Heroic. I wish they had made it where both players get a random card but only his cost (3) less or something

I mean if you really think about it, you didn't break the rules for the Rafaam fight. The game made it literally impossible for you to use the meta deck. The rules said nothing about Rafaam's deck.

I mean I wouldn't call it impossible I done with all core cards and 2 amalgam of the deep
I'm someone who started playing Hearthstone back in beta and then a couple years ago I stopped playing and really only played brawl and then I stopped playing until they came out with battlegrounds and then started playing battlegrounds.
I have I think 30 cards that are new to me that have come out since the last 7 or 8 expansions.
I can't even play in casual because in casual everyone's still net decks.
Saying that death's bite is an amazing card and I'm like wtf?
I just saw some absolute scrub warrior who had no idea how to play the game demolish me because he had a four mana 25 tons that gave him a 3-2 weapon.
Talk about power creep I remember when sinjin used to be good. A four man of three five taunt for one attack less you get a 3-2 weapon.

I might be crazy, but I don't think the point of the rafam fight is to give him a bad deck. The point is to give him a deck that you are very familiar with because then you know how to counter everything that it might do. The unstable portal is annoying for sure, but it becomes irrelevant once you know how to counter most of the other cards that they were going to play. The other important thing is to put a bunch of rare cards in your deck, so you can make the weapon within the Explorer deck become the win condition. The more rare cards, the opponent, plays, the bigger, the weapon gets, and the more time you can swing face with it. I don't know exactly what cards were in the deck. Rarran was playing so I can't be certain how many red cards there were. The other thing is, you would not want to taunt minions in the deck that you give him because then he's going to be able to block you from killing him with the weapon. Personally, I was able to defeat him with the big beast hunter that was around in festival of legends.
Might have been interesting to beat Rafaam with the least changes to the deck. I mean, it's 100% possible with any decks and infinite trys, but i think it might be reasonable rng with 2 cards changed, finley to get rid of the heropower and Bonelord Frostwhisper. Really a highroll dependent deck, but maybe worth a shot.
Also: It's reasonable the way Rarran did it as well, would have taken way longer otherwise.
hi rarren, i doubt youre going to see this but i just want to get a couple things off my chest
i've been playing the past week as a returning player from ungoro era and ive been playing the warrior loaner deck and got up to diamond rank and was working my way up to legend, but now they have changed the decks and its worse then it was before (in my opinion) and now i wont get to keep the cards ive been useing the past 5 days like they had advertised. on top of not being able to keep what i thought i was going to be getting from the loaner deck i found out that a few months ago returning players got 150 free packs and now i just feel bad because im 150$ worth of card packs behind everyone else now
ive been trying to post to blizzard fourms but im just not able to for some reason i cant figure out so i have to come complain elsewhere

Karazhan, Frozen Throne(?), Galakrond's Awakening and maybe Trial by Felfire are left from heroic adventures I think, or do you only want to complete buyable adventures?

Really disappointed with the end fight, I was expecting you to overcome the meta deck normally, but this was just disappointing.
I think I could have tried it 1 million times and I wouldn’t come close, this video lives up to the title
I don’t think you can actually beat it with a real deck given the natural power creep of the game versus the awful loaner deck
