Can you please make a video of how to PREVENT setting doubles?
joon the moon u can’t prevent stupid refs 😭😭
@@miaplayz1472 so true
How do you get your wrists so “bouncy” when you set? The motion is very smooth when you set it up. Does that kind of thing just get better as you practice?
I think its hand flexibility
EXACTLY MY POINT.Mine doesnt bounce so smoothly:(
@@f.a.i7135 so one thing i must stress is that you should have not-stiff wrists
@@f.a.i7135 one easy exercise you could do everyday is just to flail your wrists around in a very lazy and ragdoll like manner
@@f.a.i7135 basically just shake your wrists around like when you're trying to dry it off after you wash your hands
Thank you Coach Donny for your videos.
Have you created a video re: a technique for serve receive, or spike that is approaching at shoulders/head-height? A demo and your thoughts would be appreciated.
Thank you for making your videos very well explained! It has helped me out so much! I've been trying to practise these drills, but am having trouble with the low rhythm drill. When I try to just use my wrists, I can't seem to control the ball to go straight up. It feels like one wrist is stronger than the other in terms of wrist flick which results in the ball spinning and a bit of sideways offset. I suppose it's a little difficult to explain, but if you could give some pointers for fixing this that'd be great!
I have never played volleyball and after I watched your I felt like I had a chance of being in a club and use your skills to do my best.😄 Thanks
It depends what age u are and what pos u wanna play
Or what u can play
Whenever I try to do the drills, my setting is always uneven... do you have any tips on that?
My setting makes the ball go in unpredictable ways.
Ah, I've had that problem before, the trick is the execute the technique with both Ur arms moving at the same time
Guidaツ i guess you could try practicing without the ball, just slowly going through the motion, that helped me a lot
For me when I was just getting started my trainer told me to set against the wall and it helped me a lot. If ya wondering if I'm here just wanna see if I can learn more about setting.
When u aim a set to the hitter, make sure your hands stay in the air frozen after setting the ball to that point that way it won’t go any other way or something
omg same, my sets aren't straight lmao; they can't go straight, or vertically ㅠㅠ it's either the ball does a light spin and goes behind or beside me ㅠㅠ
Very nice lesson. Thanks coach!
You are my best volleyball coach ★★★
Thank you !!!!!
★★★★★★★★★★★★★★
Thanks for the video. Clear and helpful!
Finally caught onto what I was missing: using all of my fingers!!! Decreased my spin so much. Thanks!
Coach Donny, really appreciate your videos! I appreciate that you're trying to help players quicken up their sets with these drills, but I was hoping you might be able to delve into it a bit further? I've heard Courtney Thompson speaking about working on a "fast finish" in a coach your brains out episode, but unfortunately didn't go into any details.
I'm playing setter for an indoor club team for the first time after 10yrs of injury. I was formally a beach player, so have received feedback that my deep dish may be getting close to a carry, hence looking for advice to fix it up 👍
I'd really appreciate any further assistance you could give!
Your video was excellent, coach. It helped me a lot. Hopefully you better make a subtitle for your next videos so some non-native english speaker also learn easier! Thanks for your time Donny!
@@ElevateYourselfOfficial they should have actually replied, so that the people who speak their language would better understand what you are saying coach Donny. And I’m trying out for my school team in a month. I watched your other tryouts video, but I think I need some work on my sets. I think Amy wrists aren’t as springy as my jump, but can I make it into a team even if I have average sets but a great spike??
Hi coach Donny,
First of all thank you for posting such great videos. We are using your videos as training material for our middle school indoor/outdoor volleyball team here in Asia. Were just on our first year of competting.
My question is how "high" should a setter sets the ball in an open ball? or different instance. Can please post a video on this.
Thanks in advance and more power to you and your channel.
this drill is all about control, so i’d recommend going as high as you can without loosing control of the ball
Thank you for the tips
Coach Donny, you are wonderfull, your explanations and demonstrations are very clear. Thank you so much for this!
Would you use the low rythm technique for a quick (1) attack?
I am really enjoying your videos and the information is well explained. I have one question on setting that has to do with your triangle square theory: I have been taught that you need to keep your hands in the shape of the ball at all times and to avoid the over extension (your square portion) as it can result in a inconsistent "flat" ball. I have been told to keep this form you push your hands out from the base of your hands so that when finished your palms will face the direction of the ball. Do you know this theory and if so how does it compare to your theory? Thanks!
Thank you so much this was so helpful!!!
sir donny thank you very much for your video a lot tips we got. more power
"Use your fingerprints because otherwise, you will jam your fingers"
My strong ass fingers: Y'all hear sum?
Have you done a video on how to one hand set?
The best video that i found for lifting.(god promise)
It says how to lift and the handflow with ball, that others not
nice tutorial...i liked it
Why is it, when I set the ball it makes a loud noise?
You’re probably hitting the ball with the palm of your hand. Maybe try catching a volleyball like you would a set and see if the ball is touching your palm.
XxFearlessvolleyqueenxX you have had fingers
I was always told “soft in hard out”. When you first touch the ball you sort of catch it for about 0.01 of a second with your fingertips. This is the soft part. Then you use your arms, legs and wrists together to push the ball. Also make sure you are sort of pushing your shoulder blades together. This helps to get the correct arm positioning
Thank you sir I love ur couching
Can you make a video on the different heights to set the volleyball ball? Like for outside hitters, middle and back row... that is what I am a little unsure of.
thanks for the video! Can you tell me some exercises . I feel a little pain on my finger joints.
Thanks
This is one of the most helpful videos ever ! Thanks so much
U guys are just awsome
please make the video on how to prevent setting doubles thank you
Thank youuuu
Thanks man
Nice video
This video is about three years old, sorry if you have already made this video or if this was in this video (it probably was) but could you maybe do “tips to make your set quiter”? Haha iidk! But thanks sm!! This video itself helped tons!!
Superb sir
thankyou
good drill for training by myself outside the court
i ❤️love❤️volleyball,🏐🏐
So I've been setting with only my thumb, index and middle fingers. I was wondering if which is better or more accurate. Saw this video and made me really want to change the way I set . But I want to know from you if it changes anything.
thank for telling me this
i seem to move my hands away after setting as in apart it helps me get more power by using a follow through but is it effective in games?
Donny, would you be able to make a video tutorial on how to set the ball when the pass isn't perfect?
Like when the ball is passed or received and as a result the ball is far away from the setter.
How would you adjust yourself/ position yourself to set a hittable ball for the hitters?
BigManKen-san simply say “help”
I did some testing, and as it is with humans being so different, and I having longer than average fingers, I can't wrap all my fingers around, even when setting high, I'm only able to use 3 fingers from each hand. When I do use more than 3 from each hand, it seems that my fingers completely wrap around the ball, grabbing it instead of bouncing it. But less fingers, less power, less accuracy. So what I did to solve this was specific finger training excersises + setters ball and wrist stretching.
Still working on getting enough power without using the elbows. Even if the height of the recieve affects my setting power, the higher the receive, the more force I can return via the setting. And this may sound stupid, but much like rubber.
Edit: Also at first, as expected, the less fingers used, the more stress on those specific joints, but for me that dissapeared the more strength training I did.
Hi tryouts for the volleyball team is very soon and last year I was the teams setter, but over the summer my sets have become lazy and I've been practicing everyday. My question is how do I make the ball not spin so much and get it to target easily. Thanks!
i can’t set without my fingertips....it’s hard for me to set accurately too :(
Then you are not a volleyball player....
You’ll figure it out
@@emanueleg.4106 till which level did you played?
I’m currently 7th grade but I practice with high school A team as setter
@@emanueleg.4106 I'm a state level volleyball champion.....
can you please make a video about hand positioning when setting the ball please thank you.. im just using only 3 fingers which is thumb, index and middle finger.. i just wanna know if im positioning the ball right.. i dont know if i should use all my fingers to set the ball
Hi Coach Donny, Are you taking some private lessons around Bay area?
Coach donny, how to control volleyball fingering doubles?
If I set it to myself, it’s just fine, but when I’m playing with others, my hands are poorly distanced and it falls on my face or spins like crazy or my timing is off, yielding the same result. What do you think is the issue?
Consistency on hand and finger placement? My first thought at least. When you're setting to yourself, you're conscious of stopping the spin and direction, and when you're setting to others you're really only thinking of getting the ball there and not how. That and combination with setting to yourself isn't the same as setting to others, it requires a larger array of motor skills.
One example, you're setting to yourself, standing on one place. You practice that and get good at that. You go to practice, and you have to move, you can do that, you have to set, you can do that. But the synchronization is not there for both of these actions.
Try having players bump or throw the ball in different spots, and you setting back to them.
This is all speculation though, I can't say for sure because I don't know you though xD
I'm trying out for the volleyball team and in there you have to do ten sets and bumps to yourself, could you give me some tips?
This video is really great. I used to flip my hands to set.. it seems really wrong....
Just wandering is it best to set the ball off the net for your hitters? or a few more feet to ensure the hitters dont touch the net during their swing?
nice tricks for a beginner
I want to make core strength can u suggest me those exercises which can be performed in 1hour as well as it can help me make my core strengths
thanks doony sir
Tell me on how to know set ball when used fast attack

You are a very helpful coach!! Our coach just yells at us 🤧
hey I have a question regarding how to set accurately to the spiker, I keep trying to get the spiker to meet half way if you know what I mean
How should do rules on a volleyball court , when you play
Could you please teach me with the head camera it's effective to learn
Those high rhythm sets were so loud I was trying to learn how to get a soft set
If I ever visit your place I would like you to coach me for one month!!!😍😍
How do you make the volleyball hit your sweet spot because every time I get behind a volleyball it tends to hit my fists or upper arms and I think my platform is very firm but the volleyball never hits it... This is my first year playing volleyball too so I have no experience at all can you give me some tips and suggestions please?
Hey coach, my problem is that i can't set the ball high. Many times spikers tell me that i have to set higher the ball, but I don't understrand how I can do it. Is it about power in the arms or technique?
For setter main thing is to control ball so sir plz give video based on controlling volleyball
Sir,I am a new member...I want to learn how to set ball any direction
This was very helpful! Second video I’m watching and I think I’m going to subscribe!!
CLUB SEASON IS ABOUT TO STARTTTTR
my coach is telling me that my hands aren’t relaxed. please teach me how to “relax” my hands
🙏🏾
when you say "all your fingers" you mean pinkies should be contacting the ball as well? also, do you "pinch" your thumb and index finger together during the follow through?
How many fingers are actually supposed to touch the ball as you set?
sir I 've tried very hard for high rythm. but I end up going a carry or pushing the Ball. Sir can u please tell me how to improve my high rythm.
Whenever I set, my thumbs never touch the ball. No matter how hard I try to get my thumbs on the ball, I can’t... any tips?
bro can u make a video of biggners
Donny, i'm 16, 5'10 without shoes, and 135 pounds, so obviously I need to build a base of strength, but my question is, will my vert decrease as a result of increase of weight ?
I know I am major late on this video but I have try outs today for school volleyball and my coach said we dont have to know how to set yet but I still have a question. When I set all my fingerprints contact the ball it just does not go anywhere. Why is that?
I hurt my shoulder so I’m watching these videos to help myself in practice after I heal
how many seconds to meet the ball?
How many fingers do you need to set a ball?
Is it really true that a good set is the set that makes no sound when you contact the ball?
Which was the ball he used?
Leather or rubber?
can someone help me i'm struggling with the low rhythm set i can't seem to get the ball to go straight up and i can't seem to hit it? can someone explain the low rhythm set drill to me please :)
I always get my thumb injured while setting the ball. Can you please make a video on how to prevent those thumb injuries.
It means that your thumbs are too high. Spread your fingers and direct thumbs at your eyeballs trying make a triangle.
@@asiajarosinska1241 okay thanks 👍
How can i set the ball when the receive is higher than usual? When i try to i just hurt my fingers
What do I do if the ball is spinning when it comes to me to set. Whenever I try to set spinning balls, they shoot away from me
thx bae
Ok guys I need some advice I constantly get called for double touches because my sets spin one way. How do I stop that? Is one of my arms just longer? What am I going wrong! Plz help
watching this an hour before my tryouts.
I have a question for anyone who knows the answer. What fingers do I use? I've for some reason been taught to use my thumb, pointer finger, and middle finger and thats it. I think that has been making me jam my thumb a lot. I'm new to setting, does anyone have any tips for me?
While receiving ball sometimes my fingers become butter fingers what should I do to improve my fingers for setting and receiving ball
You gotta do pushups, but instead of using your palms, use your fingertips. But if you cant do finger pushups start by either repeatedly landing your fingertips on a wall while you lean towards it, or just practice setting with a basketball
Does the toss have to be silent and have no spin? I always end up hitting the ball. Also I try doin the self-toss practice, I just can't keep the ball between hands and it keeps going behind me 😓
Pliz make a volleyball kit vids
This is late but sets preferably should have no spin so that the spike hits it easier
How do you get it to be so quite mine is so loud
i rly liked this video, I've been attempting to set but I always got the timing wrong and all the power from the ball hits one section of my fingers and I end up getting a bad finger :(
@Rick thx for the tip!

If it touches your palm when u do a set is it a foul?
