leah4sci.com/or... presents: Naming Straight Chain Alkanes
This video is Part 2 in the Naming Organic Compounds series
In this video I break down the different parts of naming a simple straight-chain alkane using IUPAC rules and a few tricks of my own.
The concepts discussed in this video will show up in every subsequent video as we slowly tackle functional group after functional group turning a potentially difficult topic into something doable and fun (yup, that wasn't a typo)
Many students struggle with naming because they attempt to come up with the entire name at once and often wind up missing a piece or two. After this series you won't have that problem anymore

I actually told my O-chem teacher to watch your videos because you taught me so much more than he did. Thanks so much, got me through O-chem.

Wow. The way you explain this makes it so much easier to understand…

Glad it was helpful!
Love this channel and I'm already outta the academic grind of med school, but as some of our rounds include chemistry questions, I'd like to ask what "N" and/or "n" indicate in the nomenclature of a compound. such as N-acetylcysteine, among many others. Many uses for the 'N' in science but if you can answer the way I'm hoping, Nassim has to go on a date with me. It will CHAINge our life ;)
I hope rounds turned out well. The N refers to a substituent on Nitrogen
Yer very good🇨🇦🐹🐹🐹🐼🐼🐭🙊🙊🙊
