@@williamparrish2436 Nope, we are in that industry and we have tried AI for site work. There is no way at this point, and it will take a long time. AI might provide logic, procedure and knowledge. It really struggles with judgement. It struggles with humanity and it struggles with motivation. There is no way that any site worker will be motivated to work harder or more responsibly by a machine. The issue is that very few site jobs are standard. Inventiveness on site is key. AI might come up with that, but the sheer amount of training required is vast.

Citing Moore's Law in terms of AI is what makes us hobbyists feel nice but wrong. I've never seen an available technology evolve so rapidly.

When the internet came along it evolved quite fast in the 90's too, we just didnt know what to do with it, like ai, most people will never use it until they use it without knowing. Hardware has evolved very rapidly recently too.

This isn’t following Moore’s law at all. Moore’s law was roughly about the growth of transistor density. But while transistor density has been growing on nvidia GPUs (doubling every 2-3 years), companies have rapidly gone from stringing together 20 GPUs together to now 200k GPUs together in just a few years. It’s a growth in cluster size

If you sent that pie chart to a client they would laugh at you or fire you. I'm a data analyst and I'm a fan of AI, I use it daily. But **contextually** its just not ready to 100% replace even a mediocre analyst. And until it can read our minds to address that "broken link" of communication (prompt efficiency) or companies decide to fully integrate their own systems, data and goals into it, its not going to be a full replacement.
There are so many nuances that we as humans take for granted when it comes to our thought processes and decision making capabilities, there is SO much that we have to literally spell out for AI to understand each time we give it a problem to solve, especially in analytics. I think the use cases for AI are becoming more broad more rapidly which makes it more accessible and that is amazing, but I'm still not convinced it can replace the role of a human whose job is to critically think. I think we should be more focused on embracing it as a compliment to what we do and grow with it into new roles instead of getting replaced by it.

I remember when there was a job called typist...
All that stuff that happened between 1990 and 2000 completely changed things.
People like to compare it to that time - yeah, there will be vigorous change.
But the fast pace of business and lifestyle changes of the 1990-2000 era were dramatically slowed down because nobody had computers.
Companies no longer need to worry about ROI on a piece of hardware.
This is going to happen soooo fast.

I got out of data analytics last year after 5 years cause I saw the direction and speed AI is advancing. Understanding data and being able to read charts are still going to be valuable skills but companies aren't going to need as many analysts in the future because 1 analyst can do the work of 5-10 with the power of AI.

I agree with this other comment, most people aren't paying attention to what's happening with AI and since you are and a data analyst, you have the opportunity to be the one analyst that takes all the others jobs by utilizing AI, and I don't think that's a good reason to dip out unless you were really into doing things the old way and wouldn't enjoy your job as much doing it this way

I'm actually thinking that a Masters in IT/Info Systems/ Comp Sci is going to become more valuable, not less. Especially once the government steps in and overregulates all this. They will probably require a certain amount of humans be available to monitor these systems. So the bar for entry is going to be an advanced degree and certifications to get an entry level role.

Data Analysts: The improvements in GPT-4’s data analysis tools mean that more people can perform basic data analysis tasks without needing extensive training. This democratizes access to data insights and allows professionals to make data-driven decisions more efficiently.
Customer Support Agents: The ability to customize AI responses with detailed context information means that customer support can be more personalized and efficient. This could lead to shorter wait times and better customer satisfaction.
Social Media Managers: AI tools can now handle much of the content creation process, from generating ideas to producing consistent visuals and text. This can free up social media managers to focus on strategy and engagement.

AI will not improve customer service when dealing with large corporations that have been abusing their customers for years putting up every barrier possible.
AI will make it almost impossible to get anything resolved other than what the company pre-determines is worthy of their time dealing with. Prepare yourself for many situations where you will end up infuriated on the phone or with email getting absolutely no resolution.

    • @navitaw8876

This is a perfect summary. Business grade AI is not cheap so small companies wont be able to afford it and large companies will see that its ROi doesn't add up since it still requires full time analysts on payroll for reliably accurate results. They will probably still incorporate it but not as a full on replacement. And even some medium to large companies that already tried replacing service workers with AI are backtracking and hiring humans again (mainly retail, tech support and healthcare), we just don't see those stories in the headlines because fear sells more.

It will only be allowed to use artificial intelligence as an aid that employees can utilize, but not as a direct replacement for a job.
