    Thanks! This was helpful in removing an additional cap so that I could see what I was getting wrong on the white hinge piece. My hinge had come apart into two pieces and I needed the lower hinge posts to be below the square frame part, so that it would pivot around the center posts. Also, the divot point at the top of the part had to be pointing towards the computer while the hinge posts had to be on top of the square frame to clip onto the cap. There were cavities in the square frame for the cap pivot points to have room around the top pivot hinges. Thankfully, the square frame had enough flexibility to pull it apart and get the center hinge points to go in one side at a time.

    I watched several times...helpful video, but it's missing several key points I'm looking for: 1) Do you turn off the PC before making this repair or ok to leave it on? 2) The video shows replacement of the exact same key & retainer clip?? Why would you do that? Aren't you replacing with a new one? 3) Shouldn't you try some Multi-purpose duster spray first, after removing the key/clip, to see if any debris is clogging the key?? Then replace and retry, before putting it back together? Good vid overall, but I need a little more detail, per above. Thanks!

    • @TerryTDIDS
      @TerryTDIDS Год назад

      Ok, so in light of my comments above: First, I shut off my Yogo. Then popped off the #/3 key, per the video. However, instead of popping off the retainer clip, I sprayed the entire key area (using std spray duster), under the clip and around it, and reinstalled the key. All works fine now! Again, with all respect to the author, I would try my method first, before buying a new key or keyboard. If this doesn't work, then purchase your key/clip.

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  Год назад

      With any computer repair, you should turn off your computer. Thought that was commonly known but perhaps I should still add it in videos... This is a video showing how to uninstall a key in the event you need to salvage one from another keyboard and then showing how to install a key in the event your broke and you are replacing it with a new one you purchased. Using the same key for the video accomplished both things.

    Is it possible to replace a retainer clip? One of my keys has come off, and it won't snap onto the retainer clip securely, no matter how carefully I try. It sort of clips on, but then it falls off again. You mentioned ordering new keys in the FAQ but I wonder if you can order new retainer clips. Thank you!

With a French onset keyboard does that mean the keyboard is sealed off from the motherboard and other electronic components that can be damaged by moisture entering the case through the keyboard?

    3 of my keys are not working. I dryed it completely, but it's a Lenovo Yoga C940, shouldn't it be supposed to be water resistant? is there anything else I can do apart from buying a new Keyboard?

    • @PC_Monkey
      @PC_Monkey  Год назад

      1. Nothing on a computer is water resistant unfortunately :(
      After a liquid spill, you want to first make sure the computer is 100% dry. You would turn your computer off immediately by pressing and holding the power button until the computer turns off. Then you would disassemble the computer as much as your comfortable with, at least trying to remove the bottom case. Then you would turn it on its side and let dry for a couple days. Have you done this yet or are you sure the computer is dry?
      2. Do the keys feel like they are physically fine or do they feel like they have something mechanically wrong with them?

    I have a Lenovo Thinkpad Yoga L13 model, and the 3/# key fell off, leaving the hinge behind. It doesn't seem to snap back into place, and I bought a replacement key that came with the cover and hinge together. Are those two pieces glued together for my model? It seems to me that I should pry loose the hinge of the old key and just snap this whole thing on to the spring in the middle. Does that sound right to you?

    • @PC_Monkey

      If the key assembly is not installing correctly, its either due to a component being damaged and needing to be replaced or a component not being orientated correctly. I have a new Yoga » C740-14IML, and the left-arrow/Home key came out sticking to my finger...
    Instead of only the plastic parts, the key has a staple-like metal piece attached to it.
    Trying to slide the metal 'legs' into their slots, and pushing down on the key, it fits in place but wouldn't click in nor stay connected.
    Any idea how that should work? Should the metal part be attached firmly and then the key snapped to it...?
    I appreciate any help... Lenovo labs claims this is not covered by their fancy customer-site 36-months warranty, although no force was applied and this is clearly a manufacturing defect.
    LENOVO, DISAPPOINTING!

    I need help! I have a lenovo ideapad 100s- 11IBY (the battery cannot be removed). I got it 2 years ago and it was working perfectly but 2 days ago it started telling me that it's plugged in but not charging and the battery percentage is at 85% and is not decreasing nor increasing. I called a "specialist" to fix it and after 2 days of him "trying" he told me he was unable to fix it. I'm having a panic attack because i have an online exam on Thursday and i don't know what to do. Can you please give me a few suggestions on how i could possibly fix it myself?

      If your Key Cap is not clicking down in place correctly, it is most likely due to the Retainer Clip not being properly installed or damaged. Remove the Cap and inspect for damage or that its not laying down flush and properly snapped in itself. Compare to another Clip if needed by removing another Cap.

    Hi, I have Lenovo Yogo 920 which has recently had a problem where the E key will generate strings of eeeeeeeeeeee without the key even being fully depressed, just very gently moving your finger over the surface of the key causes the eeeeeeeeee to repeat in any text box. This is obvisously annoying and a problem when entering passwords. Have you any idea what could be causing this and what solutions can you suggest, the laptop is only five years old and started doing it about 6 months ago. All the other keys need to be fully depressed before they generate their letter. Thanks in adavnce for your help.

    Thanks for posting these, it's nice to try to work through this problem myself. I have a Lenovo Yoga C740 purchased this summer. My retainer clip is still attached to the key cap and seems pretty securely attached. Should I pull the retainer clip off of the key cap? It won't snap back on as it is. I can send the computer in under warranty but that seems pretty silly for just a broken key.

      If the key does not stay in place, then its not installed properly, or its damaged, or its not orientated correctly. The trick is to find which one it is. Best thing to do is to remove another key cap and look at the still installed hinge clip. Compare that to yours to make sure its installed correctly, not damaged, and orientated correctly.

      The X1 yoga gen 3 have an unusual keyboard. Each key have 4 little lugs that pulls them up and down when you fold the screen. If you pull it out like this they will very likely break. Then the key won't retract when you close the screen or when you put it in tablet mode. The whole mechanism will be skewed and click each time you fold the screen. Then the key sticking out will most likely scratch your screen when folded. Not a good Idea. I did it like that and broke it, be smarter then me.
