    You're sitting way south of the contintental transform boundary there. That fault is still very active. The formation of this range is a valley formed by the smashing of mountains there causing an uplifted basin sort of like the great valley in california. It's because the transform boundary isn't exactly slipping, it's a squishing-type of slipping. That causes some uplift, folding and faulting. It's happened at least 2 times on that island because there are 3 orogenies. I suggest investigating the really nice alluvial fan to the northwest of the center of the lake if you can. You'll find some very interesting plants.

      There's quite a long East-West fault right on the lake that extends all the way to the mid-cayman spreading center and on into Mexico, which is probably why the lake is there and why it's 150' below sea level. Such a deep basin isn't caused by nearby orogeny. A very cool area. Wish I'd got to spend more time in the serpentine areas though.

    • @loganbabcock6179
      @loganbabcock6179 3 года назад +3

      Not him, but he’s talked about taking plants out, which is poaching. He’s fervently against it, and prefers it in its natural habitat where it has a better chance to grow and be an integral part of the ecology of the land. It’s also not just the plant itself, but the story behind it and the adventure you have in getting to it that makes it special and taking those things away to hoard is awful.
      What he does, though, is a lot of times he’ll grab seeds of the plants, spread half, keep half, germinate (“humility dome”) and donate them to local arboretums and what not.
      Long winded, but I think Joey agrees with me.
