This is the best video explaining how to make a template! Very detailed and pleasant! All others title their videos to make you think this is what you're going to do but they're not! I've been trying to learn Inkscape for a long time but you nailed it! I actually made a 3 color template car decal! My templates were a bit off in alignment (all the boxes were the same size) I think the oops came from me centering 2 of the 3 templates on the page. I think I should have just brought the image into DS after tiling it and sliced the holes there keeping the image in the correct alignment but I'll play with that to see if it works. I'd love for you to make a video making a layered rhinestone template since I'm sure you'll do it a lot quicker than I can! LOL! Thank you! :}
Toward the end where you mentioned we need to size the design in Inkscape before saving & sending to DS - if I want my image to be 6 inches tall (and it will scale the width) will the cut out still cut out the circles to fit the 4mm (or 16 ss) size rhinestones when I cut in DS?

Yes. If it’s an image you need to trace it so you have paths. Select it and it will tell you at the bottom of the window on the info bar if it is an image or if it is a path or a group of paths. If it is a group then just ungroup it and delete the white background.
@@a.p.brispy That’s because it’s an image. You need to trace the image to be able to have cutlines. They have to be paths if you’re wanting to use the image for cutting on your machine.
For some reason when I clone them circles the size of the circles change and I’m not sure why. When I go to my original circle (before I delete it) it’s the size I set it for but the cloned ones are different
In the tiled clone panel check the scale and make sure everything is set to zero except the Exponent that should be set to 1.000 for Row and Column and make sure the box is checked that says 'Save size and position of tile'. That's all I can think of.
Once I create the template and have the circuit cut it...would I be able to place it on a wine glass and add my rhinestones? And once I do, do I just peel the vinyl off with out affecting my rhineatones?
I know if I were putting rhinestones in class I would use E6000 glue to adhere the rhinestones to the glass. The silicone is used for material not for hard surfaces. and I don't believe you would be able to do that with a template because the glue would get all over and maybe even under the template and when you pull the template up I would think it would stick to the glass where you apply the glue. You can always get a couple wine glasses from the dollar store and try those to see how it would work or what the best option would be for applying the glue with the template and place.
Rhonda Mobley I semi-figured it out by playing around with it but I had to do one letter at a time. Any idea why i could not create a template of the entire word at one time?
Type your word then apply Object to Path, Object Ungroup and Path Union. this makes your word one object (path) and it should work. If you only do Object to path on a 4 letter word you actually have a Group of 4 Objects (paths). When trying to apply something that you can only have 2 objects selected like Path Difference it will not work, you have to Ungroup and Union to make it one path. I hope that makes sense.

I’m not sure what you mean by grab. Select? There’s a lot of steps to this video I would suggest watching it again and pausing it so you can follow along with the steps and hopefully that will help.
Teasha Tyson make sure your settings are the same as in the video. One missed step and it will come out differently. Unfortunately I am away from my computer until next week and only have my phone and I can’t see the settings in the video. Follow the video again pause if you need to and check all the setting down to the size of the circle.. it does work! :)
Hi Rhonda, when I get to the find section towards the 4:30 minute marker, there's no number in there and I press delete and it deletes the whole image...what did I do wrong? Thank uuu
Monica Brown great, I’m glad you figured it out! It’s hard for me to say without knowing the exact steps you take so I will usually suggest you watch the video while trying again.
Cynthia Fernandez yes it does. If I wanted this design to be 9 inches across when it is placed on my shirt then I would need to make it 9 inches in Inkscape and work my design out to that size then take note of the size for Love and for the heart. DS does not upload Inkscape designs in the size that you make them in Inkscape it changes the size.

I can try to help you. What is it that you are trying to design? Are you going to use it for a personal cutting machine such as a Silhouette or a Cricut machine or are you going to design it for us and thing other than cutting?

What I do is Google shirts find a good one and use it or go to a website you purchase from and save from there. I have videos on how to make a mock up in both Inkscape and Design Space.

Do you have something selected before you try to 'find'? I suggest rewinding the video and try following the steps again since I don't know what steps you've taken and what ones you haven't. I does work :)

Melissa Brannan the size you design the template in Inkscape has too be the exact same size in DS. Width and height.

You should not have had to install another version to be able to use millimeters. Are you downloading Inkscape from the .org website?

Samantha by Laura Worthington. It’s a paid font I think it was $17.

Export your design as an svg file, a box will Path>Object to Path up and check for use in Design Space.

It's done with the same exact steps, you are just using text converted to a path rather than an image traced to get a path.
