A lot has happened to Hanzo in Overwatch recently. Sonic Arrow nerf, removal of Scatter Arrrow, some new rapid fire ability. But what Blizzard might not realize is the things they are removing is what makes Hanzo such a legit ninja in the first place! That and his dark past with his old clan the Shimada. How legit? Let me clear this up. Out of character, I have dramatic mixed feelings about Genji. Genji is my favorite Overwatch character. I love his story, his concept, and his design. But he's not a historically good ninja. More on that in another video. That's why there is this conflict in the episode. It's my personal divide between loving Genji for who he is as a fictional character, and my weebish brain that wants to compare him to historical ninja.
Gaijin Goombah Media Nah, vato, it's all cool! We get you. Same with me and Medieval Fantasy. As much as I love it, as a HEMA enthusiast, I can't help but think: "How can this benefit from actual History?" I still enjoy them for what they are, it's just something that always comes to mind. XD

It's still funny that Goombah, the cartoon not the human, wanted to throw down with Genji. It plays into the rage about the not so good ninja we saw back with Sonic. I figured the conflict was just a continuation of that characterization.

I can understand.
Hanzo may be the most legit *traditional* ninja in Overwatch, however the actual role of what would have been a ninja in old Japan falls to Sombra. Stealth, mobility, information gathering, weakening the enemy to take them down more easily, preparing the area to your advantage and assassination. Even her lore fits the basics of what ninja were all about: Erased all traces of her existence, uses the latest tech she can get her hands on and manipulates and intimidates people into playing into her hands.
She's not the clan-building type though.
This is fact.
You know, you should actually do the Spy from TF2 as a proper ninja: Nobody really knows what he looks like, he can disappear and reappear at an instant, can immediately disguise himself, can fake his own death and is perfect for sabotage and intelligence gathering. And is more for assinating specific targets as opposed to fighting everyone at once.

that Sounds like a GREAT Idea; after all, It's Rather Conflicting for a PUBLICLY Renowned Sushi Chef WITH HIS MASK ON; To actually go out doing the Work of Shinobi in the Shadows, since Someone would recognize him and possibly Rat him out(like what happened to Zenjubo Sugitani; when an ally of Oda Nobunaga, aka Isono Kasumasa had found & ratted him out, and he got punished by Being Decapitated with Dull Bamboo sticks over the course of SEVERA DAYS) as such; I'm highly Dubious that that Tanooki Shinobi would've ever lived by the point he had till Clockwerk killed him(as well as Every single Cooper until Sly took him down) if The World of Sly cooper in Japan were as really at the time of the Era of Shinobi.

Now THAT was amusing.
I would love to see a "Which Ninja" over the Tenno in Warframe. They were modeled after ninjas. And Warframe's tagline is even "Ninjas play free".
Look at Loki especially: A stealth frame with the abilities of *Decoy*, *Switch Teleport*, *Cloak*, and *Radial Disarm*. He is very fast and agile as well.
The main progression system is based around the idea of "Mastery". Hence why your main level is called *Mastery Rank*. And experience points are called "Affinity". You gain Affinity for all of your gear and that levels them up, which in turn levels up your MR. You then take a Mastery Test in order to actually rank up. So the game emphasizes mastery of all manner of weapons and frames in order to level up.
You can also make your very own Clan and build a Dojo.
Plus the game is free, so there is little excuse to not at least try it out. It is one of the best F2P games ever.

Actually, that's brilliant. I would love to see Gaijin go through each of the Warframes or stick with Ash or Excalibur. But not all of them, just some he likes. And how do each of the Warframes fit certain Ninja.

Sub-zero was alien from the beginning, Scorpion ninjitsu end on using kunai as a weapon, and Raiden is more a techno-samurai.

Makes me wonder how well Garrett from the Thief series would hold up. I think he would stand up well as a ninja.
While not a ninja or trained by any he did train under a mysterious secret organisation, The keepers, who valued information above all else and had where not shy about getting it through illegal means. His toolkit would fit a a ninja quite well if a bit much for one person in a real life situation.Among these are a blackjack to knock out unaware opponents, a sword if lethal force was necessary, blinding flash bombs and an array of utility arrows on top of simple broad head ones. Rope arrows to climb to out of reach locations, arrows with a water payload to dowse open flames, arrows with an explosive replacing the tip, noisemakers for distractions, "moss" arrows to cover loud surfaces with silencing mossy goop or to crack on opponents faces causing violent coughing. The fire and moss devices where available as mines as well.
Once he get a mechanical replacement body part in the sequel it is one that would make a ninja green with envy; one eyeball is replaced with a mechanical prosthetic that he can place or throw and see through remotely. He also dresses well for the job with darker blue colors for the first two games and dark leathers for the third, pretty good for a dirty and rusty steampunk city.

I like how Gomba says how Genji shouldn't be able to unsheathe his sword with out it glitching through his sheath, when he shouldn't be able to hold *his* sword, as he doesn't have arms

and on the note of the kiki-dsutsu, and the OW hanzo projectile version, upgrading and experimenting with weaponry and thus adapting to new tech, is A if not THE ninja way.
The rotagonist from a game called Arigami (awesome game btw) fits perfectly into the ninja thing. Even if he's not called a ninja. He does kills a lot, but you can hide the bodies at some point or simply sneak around tho...
Speaking of the intro, I have a suggestion. When you get around to covering Yuffie, instead of covering just her, I think you should cover the Ninja class across Final Fantasy as a whole. Since recurring classes in Final Fantasy like to share elements and abilities between iteration, including characters based on those classes with the Ninja class being no exception, it would probably save you a lot of time in the long term to tackle those abilities and how they are represented as a whole, rather than making individual videos tackling each Final Fantasy ninja one at a time with each being almost identical in terms of abilities.

Have you ever considered doing a video about the relation between American/Italian westerns and Samurai films? The similarities between the two eras are pretty interesting, there's even a voice interaction in Overwatch where Hanzo referrers to Mcree as ronin. Just something you might find interesting.

You might want to add more detail to what type of castle wall you’re talking about. Is it a wooden wall or a proper sturdy stone wall?
I dont know if anyone suggested this yet or not, but may I suggest researching the game Warframe, its an mmo that for lack of any better description is space ninjas with powered ninja armor, each different armor has a history to it to the game's own 'world lore' considering it is a future time kind of thing. Not only that but some of the armors, which by the way are called Warframes (Yes original I know, not knocking on Digital Extremes for it just saying it feels 'obvious'.), have their own unique abilities ranging from being tied to Fire, Frost, Wind, Electricity, Sound, Music, Healing, Combat Medic [Damage dealing healer], to infestation, to sand, and even other abilities that are more complex than simple elemental or single word descriptors. But each Warframe has a purpose and the lore is slowly getting deeper and more complex and I do not wish to spoil things here in this suggestion. But it would be nice to see your take on a 'Future where ninja warriors are people with superpowers and suits that change their power sets' ends up in your opinion.

It's a (VERY cute) Korean cartoon which has a ninja in it named Garu. I think he might have some stuff going on with him and it'd be interesting to see an evaluation of him.
