I miss Maiden sounding like this. Melodic as hell, sharp, lethal riffs, and fast paced. It's my favorite version of Maiden.
Right there with you. I'll save my opinions on Senjutsu and Book (as I'm not a fan) but this version of Maiden (Somewhere in Time specifically) was just bursting with lethality. Those riffs killed harder than any thrash band at the time and these guys played FAST. With only one bass pedal and a bassist using only two fingers. And just listen to those beautiful melodies they put in there. Man I loved this Iron Maiden

Oh my God... finally someone share the same opinion as me. I really miss that version of Iron Maiden. For years I haven't been able to figure out what happened to the band sound. Even with the return of Adrian and Bruce their sound and song writing went off tracks. Every song on every album up to Seventh had something special. Don't get me wrong I still love Maiden but It's a different Maiden. Brave New World came close but they are back again to their new version of themselves. I don't know if having Jannick I'm the band and no longer having Martin Birch producing their music is the real x factor here. Every time I hear seventh or somewhere in the I miss them more and more..so sad

Somewhere in Time is a super underrated album.
I love how Dave bends his notes with these really savory melodies like at the beginning. Technique and feel are two distinct things when it comes to execution. It’s the difference between jerking off or making love. Most bands say words, Maiden speak poetic sentences. Dave’s music is much like his life, he may not say much but when he does it’s always worth the wait…you did an amazing job with touching on all the fine nuances. As a Maiden fanatic I appreciate all the attention to detail you provide.

It's a fun challenge to try to capture as many of the little nuances and subtleties as possible... And almost always, after the video has been uploaded, I'll notice something I missed and it makes me crazy but maybe that just means there could be some updated versions a few years from now 😄

That one section of the song that develops into a 3-part harmony is godly! They need to make some of that today to really make use of all 3 guitarists! They did that very rarely, I can only remember Brave New World and The Legacy.

Yeah! The synths, harmonies, lyrics screams: "80's!". Also, a year before the album came out, Back To The Future was in the cinemas (1985) and during the tour they used a Blade Runner intro (like they did with Winston Churchill's speech during Powerslave tour) if I'm not wrong!

Only Maiden write 'em like that. I say groundbreaking. It's just mind boggling because no one else even thinks of writing metal songs like that. The first time I heard this album was on a Walkman on cassette it had just been released. I was on bivouac in the army in the middle of a forest somewhere in South Carolina. The uniqueness of the album is what really caught my attention but it was unmistakenly Iron Maiden and that one was my first couple listens instant favorite on the album.

Why did this show up on my feed? Hopefully it’s a sign that Iron Maiden will add this to their set list in 2024. Under appreciated track that I don’t think they’ve ever played live.

One of my favorite songs to play. Playing this on my GK 250ML amp makes it a DREAM. So cool to use the exact same amp they used. Gives me goosebumps.
When I first heard the album I was 16 or 17 years old. I was so moved and fascinated that I almost cried. Also the cover and everything! A masterpiece

Are you serious? You only now just discovered this 35 year old song!!? My god I'm really getting up there in age. I saw this tour at Madison Square Garden in 1986 or '87. I was 21. The show was epic! Just as good as the Powerslave tour in 1984/85. But they opened up with Somewhere in Time (the song) rather than Aces High. Naturally of course!
hard to believe this gem never been played live, what they were thinking!!!! I´m a huge fan of maiden latests albums, but somewhere in time will always be my favorite record.
The pacing of it didn't really fit with the setlist on the SIT tour and after that, there just hasn't been any place for it. Definitely a great song, and SIT is still my favourite album too!
Dave murry doesn't write much but when he has a writing credit I always know its going to be a great song. My favourite from somewhere in time, I also love lighting strikes twice another Dave song, maiden need to bring these songs back, I think every album should have at least one Dave song on it to break up Steve's very long songs.
Rainmaker is also a banger. I wholeheartedly agree with you…maybe not with Steve’s long songs (I can always take more) but more of Dave’s tunes would be a welcome addition live.
Judas be my Guide and Déjà-Vu are in my top 10 Maiden songs. Which means my top 10 songs period.

Love playing this song on bass (F, D-sharp & C-sharp). Very underrated, buried especially under Caught Somewhere in Time, Wasted Years, Heaven Can Wait and Alexander the Great.
I think this was the 1st Maiden song I've heard when I was a kid back in '87, didn't know the band until FOTD album though... hahaha

Somewhere in time is the album for guitarists. The songs are fast, lots of Melodies and the guitar solos are amazing. Also the guitar tone with that synth/chorus sound adds a lot to the atmosphere.

Fender Mustang Micro has an amp preset that can be combined w reverb chorus and delay and it sounds almost indistinguishable from the album's guitars. It is incredible! Mind u even w EMG 81 bridge 85 85 middle and neck.

I’ve been waiting for this cover! Dave Murray is a great writer and I wish he wrote more. This is probably the most underrated track on Somewhere in Time. So melodic and upbeat.
