  • I put the 3000mm set up to the test in poor light while looking for Fieldfares, and find a Kestrel, Snipe, Godwit and displaying teal while exploring Rainham Marshes

Great video Neil, love the slow motion footage of the fieldfares eating the berries.. The reach from the 150-400mm Lens is amazing

You have motivated me to get back out and shoot the fieldfares at Maidwn Castle, which are roosting and feeding in the hawthorn hedge. Tricky as the best vantage point to shoot them is the fields either side of the tree line. Very flighty. I have only managed heavly cropped shots with 840mm.

      Thanks, and good luck
They are a tricky species to get close too. The fieldfare close up was the 2nd closest I've been to one and I worked in a CP which had 100s every winter.

Outstanding filming neil that set up has certainly uped your game. Amazing how close you got to those teal.. Pin sharp. I noticed noticed that the fildefare dropped one of the berries. Was that a rotten berry or just the bird dropping it

Thanks Nick. Yep, it's an amazing set up.
I'm not sure it was rotten, but not up to the fieldfare standard for sure!

Hi Neil. Interesting stuff and really nice work. I have a similar setup, which I've been using for stills but this year I want to do a lot more video. Just wondering what your thoughts are regarding the Smallrig Follow Focus kit for use with the 150-400? I see it in a couple of your videos but I don't think you've commented on it yet.

Thanks. You've reminded me I need to record a video about it! Ive written a rough script, and basically, the summary is it's useful and makes focusing easier, but if you need to change focus from one extreme to the other, it can be a bit slow. Think it's the smallrig f60 I have

Wonderful videography! Unfortunately, I can’t say the same thing for the soundtrack. It sucked!

Thanks. Thought I'd go more upbeat with the music this time, but guess it didn't work for you lol
