How did you torque the pitman to the steering box with it in the vehicle? There is no room on a 2500 you have to remove the steering box to torque it correctly.

I loosen the steering box mover a little so my puller lined up straight with the stud to pull the arm. There is just enough room to get the puller between the cross member and the tension bar on and 04 suburban I don't see the cross members on his.

@@TheDisgruntledMechanic I’ve been dealing with the Classic Chevy Shake on my 04 Silverado 1500 4.8 4x4 z71. Would just replacing idler and doing the pitarm a later time cause any problems? Any Recommendations?? I’ve replace CVS tie rods with ends and all four shocks!

On the Pitman arm we use a cut off wheel. Just cut straight down close to the shaft then use the air hammer and pops right off.

Ya know no matter how careful I would try to be, somehow I would cut into something I was no supposed to!

what size is the pitman arm nut? Biggest I have is a 1-1/4", and its just a bit to small. Also, what brand, model number is the puller you used? A have an OTC heavy duty one that uses two nuts and bolts to tighten the arms over the shoulder of the pitman arm, but it always just stretches the bolts out and the arms slip off the pitman arm.

heys guys , the 33mm nuts ws crazy tight couldnt budge it, if you losses you steering box , you can move it back enough to get a socket with an impact

You made it look easy Mike, but I'm sure it was a little aggravating getting up in there to bolts and nuts. And that pitman arm puller looked like it was made for just that job. Have a great Sunday!

Any advice for a installing the pitman arm...mines stuck going on. I have a big 1 5/16 wrench but even that leverage won't budge it anymore. Should I take it off and clean it better or use air impact?

Not sure if it would help or if it’s GM approved, but on the Silverado’s with press fit harmonic balancers, I have had to heat one up in the oven before to make it go on easier.

Another benefit to doing a solid axle swap, is ease of access to parts....GM's IFS JUNK is the worst thing they did to the 2500 HD and 3500 HD truck when they started the IFS JUNK back in 1988
