      Likely terrible. If like most any other medium duty diesel, it should get somewhere around 6 mpg or so. It also depends a lot on what gearing the truck's axles have as well. So, it may get up around 10 to 12 mpg, but that's being awful optimistic.

      jet boater that’s also their weak point. The start before they get proper oil pressure and will burn out the two rearmost cylinders. I have lots of equipment with 3208s and have two keys for all of them. Get it cranking for a couple seconds then while cranking then the other key on and boom she’s going. Figured this out after rebuilding a couple of them. Never a problem since with any of them.

    Hey there Mr cat approves, it is in fact a '73 with a '78 grill and headlights and you can tell it is from a few things but the chrome trim on the bottom of rocker panels is one thing and the another is the closed knuckle front axle, Notice the extremely long front driveline...another reason im sure the owner chose this model because of the divorce transfer case. I have owned many of these trucks and i have to say I like this variation with CAT motor.

    The 3208 NA's like this one are loud and not very powerful. Drove a bunch of 3208T's rated at 275HP in a number of flatbeds hauling lumber, and they did pretty well. The turbo added some length to the overall package, though, so it would make it an even tighter fit.

    I love me some CAT V8s. They're the best sounding V8s out there as far as I'm concerned. Hearing an un-piped 3408 roar to life with an air-start and then just go "wubwubwubwub" like a dragster from hell is the closest thing to a religious experience I've ever had. Those 32s sound pretty damn good too, though. Not as good as a 34, but then again, a 34 probably weighs more than that whole truck lol.

    Only problem we had with 3208 was that throttle response was so quick that an unloaded truck with a manual transmission would surge with every bump in the road. It was a real pain trying to hold your foot steady. With a decent load, the problem wasn't present. Some people referred to this engine as disposable because it didn't have cylinder sleeves and Cat didn't sell oversize pistons. Two engines ruined by field service personnel (too lazy to properly service air filter) were bored for dry sleeves and rebuilt. Great engine for medium heavy trucks.

    • @robby844
      @robby844 9 лет назад

      You are kidding right? Every 3208 I have run (brand new, reman, or 100,000 miles) had sluggish response. You can't get ''quick'' response unless it's a souped up marine version.

    • @ccryder1149
      @ccryder1149 9 лет назад

      robby844 Nope, not kidding. 1977 F7000, with 3208 and RT610 equipped with a Prentice (?) boom and 16 foot flat bed. Even with that load it bucked the throttle until you put something heavy on it.

      getting oversized pistons for 3208 never has been a problem, .020 and .040 over both readily available. the disposable engine thing is a myth. you can get parts for 3208 practically at 7-11.

    this is a very nice truck and very well done too
    michael smith mentioned wanting to see one with a detroit 2 stroke
    well there are SHITLOADS of them around ,, more people use 2 stroke detroits than anything else ,, I've seen 2-71 4-53 6V-53 6V-71 8V-71 and 8V-92 conversions
    I personally have a 1977 chevrolet 4x4 truck that has been rebuilt from the ground up including a new frame ,,sadly i built it 8 years ago before i knew about you tube or i would have lots of pics and videos of it being built
    the frame /rear axle are from a 1978 chevy C-80 bus ,,front axle and transfer case ,, from a 1977 ford F-800 ,, and the engine a 1974 model 8V-71 with eaton 13 speed transmission and live PTO like a tractor
    I built mine to do farm work and plow snow ,, it doesn't set any higher than this F250 highboy though ,, you think the bumpers on this truck are funny ,, try seeing that truck with a class 3 3-point hitch on the back and hydraulic lift on the front ,,,I can mount a 10 foot snow plow on the back and a 9ft on the front to clear parking lots in serious fast order ,, I have also pulled a 6bottom 16 inch plow and have also operated a 7 foot roto tiller and 9 foot mower ,,I also have a 7 foot 2 stage snowblower i can mount front or back ,, all of these are powered by the truck too
    I really need to get pics of it to show people just to see them scratch their head and say WTF is that ,,, i can tell you ,, it's what you get when John deere mates with a pickup truck

    My only question is: Why would you sell it? You'd never get out of it what you've got in it. May as well just keep it. I can tell by the cobwebs that it's been sitting a while. Probably want too much money for it.

    Read the comments yup bad ass truck and every one's bitch about exactly what year the truck is well your all kinda right sorta looks to me many different years were used doesn't have a married t - case so I'm going to say the chassis used is 73 to 76ish also the cab has all the ac unit under the hood a 77 to 78 it's all under the dash but there were mid year design changes the grill is definitely from a 77 pre square head lights those came in 78 the 77 2nd generation broncos used this same front clip so who ever built this truck used 73 Thru at least 77 parts to build it I've owned many of these in all years still have my 78 xlt ranger f250 400m 4 speed 2 speed t case

    damn fine lookin truck. started quick and easy. Did your recording device nor pick up the sound properly?
    you put a few tons of man hours into it, be a shame to let it go.
    with all the mods and adds, seems fitting to somehow add jake-breaks.

    Back in the day, the CAT 3208 n/a was a common engine in the F-body and L-body Ford trucks. I never liked them even after they installed turbochargers which boosted hp ratings to 250 hp. They were slow to go when loaded and just never had any power. They were so noisy that I got headaches every time I drove one. The two most common trucks that had this engine were the F-750 non-turbo 5+2 Spicer, and the L-8000 turbo-charged 8-LL Roadranger. The F-750 school buses came with either a 5-sp wide ratio Spicer, or the 3-sp Allison Auto as I recall.
