  • This is a video I shot today while testing out the retracts for my 650 quad-copter. The quad is a Tarot 650, which comes with landing gear that are already at the correct angle to land w/o having to do any adjustments. The gear are designed to be collapsed, so the quad comes with the landing gear brackets that I used to attach the retracts to. I'm still working out a few of the kinks, but for the most part I have demonstrated the proof of concept. The quad is quite stable during flight with the gear in the up or down position. Any feedback would be welcomed, and I'd be glad to answer any questions you may have. Thanks for watching, more to come.

    It’s crazy how far we’ve come. Still a great video that I’ve seen multiple times.

    You have more stable flight characteristics with this frame if you bottom sling your flightpack. that's an awful lot of weight to have sitting up that high and I would guess that you get slightly increased flight times if you sling it behind the gimbal and out of the way of the retracts. For these photo multirotors a lower center of gravity is always better.

    Nice smooth retracts mate! They look like they come very close to the props though? Not much room for error if they twisted on take off.

    well done on putting together your quad. I am only at the choice phase where I am looking at the right quad within my budget. Looking at the TBS disco and this one. would the DJI E600 motor/esc/prop be a good fit for this drone?

      Thanks, this was a great quad while I had it. It has been decommissioned and is now on display in the shop!

    I know that there are those out there who have nothing better to do than hate on peoples videos, you know who you are!! I may not answer every comment, just because they are typically answered already in a previous comment, and I will continue to do so. So if you have questions please review the posts, because your question my have already been answered. If you find that it hasn't been answered please leave a comment.
    Thanks!
    PS... the retracts are only 5v input from the receiver....

    Beautiful build! I recently purchased a Tarot 650 Sport frame and am considering building this same quadcopter. But I'm starting to worry about weight and flight time. The retracting legs of the 650 sport, add another 300 grams compared to the standard 650 model. Also, I'm not able to find a battery that has a higher power density than my DJI Phantom 2 (which boasts around 13mAh/g) and with the weight of batteries, I'm worried this copter would have a flight time significantly lower than my phantom 2 which is around 22 minutes in FPV. What is the honest flight time you are able to get out of the build while using FPV and recording with GoPro? Also what LiPo battery would you recommend using to maximize flight time? Thanks A LOT, I'm really excited about this quad, but just want to assuage some concerns before I start building (and buying) so learning about your experience would be super helpful.

      Jefferson Cox I see this is very old comment but was never replied to. I built. 680 tarot hex and I get about 15 to 20 mins on a 3s 8000mah battery with GoPro fpv, landing gear, led stobe light, gps, osd Nava V2 controller. I get almost 40 mins with both batteries.

    Awesome setup! I am trying to find a good copter for my needs. How much was a setup like this?

    • @TAPUAV
      @TAPUAV  9 лет назад

      With the GoPro and gimbal, with the setup I have there, you looking at close to 1,000.00. I used Tiger Motors and Props and MayTech ESC's.

    great job! how much does he weigh ?
    Now assemble the unit on the same frame. No experience. Bought motors NTM Prop Drive Series 35-30 1100kv / 380w + 10x5E Carbon Fiber Propellers. I wonder whether I normally to fly? :))

      You're kind of over-prop'ing those motors.. a quad like this it's better to have lower kV motors and larger props.

    Nice build! I've been looking for a plate that hangs underneath, between the retracts. Where did you get that plate? I need to get my GoPro lower to avoid seeing the props.

    • @TAPUAV
      @TAPUAV  10 лет назад

      The plate is part of the gimbal itself. I used some hangers that came with the gimbal so that the gimbal would hang lower. There are a couple of ways you can achieve your goal, one is to put the gimbal further out front, but that means you have to play with the center of gravity typically by moving the battery either forward or backwards. The other method is to attach a pole to the underside of the craft and hang the gimbal from it. Either way, you'll probably have to do some testing to see which way works best for you.
