  • I used Grease Pencil to create an animation cartoon from a video clip shot on my phone. Grease Pencil is a 2D ink and paint space within the 3D Blender environment.
The video is dragged into Blender while in Object Mode and in the front Y view.
The strokes and paint elements happen in Layers that you create. Line and fill qualities are controlled by Materials that you create. Colors can be sampled from your video. When you are in Draw Mode you select the layer and the material and start building. The strokes and edges of the fills can be pushed and pulled using the Sculpt Mode. The Edit Mode lets you copy strokes or fills from one point in time to another if desired.
I started with a draft stroke material to get the look I wanted, then drew over that with a heaver line and hid the draft stroke material when done.
Please let me know what you think.
