I've had reasonable luck with these. Have two - I used one I got for like $55 on Amazon to pull vacuum on a Rheem I installed DIY on my house. Worked just fine, and pulled down to about 315 microns on that 2.5 ton system. Installed a 2 ton for the upstairs and pulled that down to less than 230 microns. Probably not nearly as fast as a pump designed for techs doing this every day, but for my purposes it worked just fine. Did the triple evac/N2 purge to make sure I got everything in there, purged the lineset first with methanol then acetone as I think I had a burnout on the previous unit (a Goodman, and swapped out the FD that came with the unit with a Sporlan HH just in case). But got it down to a pretty hard vacuum with a similar little Chinese vane pump. Will try to get some videos up at some point showing my DIY HVAC journey.
Probably designed for short cycle automotive use. I could see it doing fairly good in that application. Thanks for showing this! Real world tools and their performance
I bought one of these a few years ago, after I retired, and have used it a few times. It pulled a good vacuum and ran more than 4 hours straight. Mine pulled down below 500 microns.
Thank you for showing what happens with this level of equipment in real world applications. I'm sure there's a place somewhere for lower grade pumps but the one you demonstrated seems to not even be applicable to those situations. I bought the Fieldpiece as well for my own use and it seems great!
Years ago I was employed at a company and one of the products were vacuum chambers. A guy that tested them pulled a vacuum on one and left it pulling down over the weekend unbeknownst to everybody else and sometime before Monday the power went off. That little vacuum chamber pulled oil back up from the pump and coated the inside of that chamber. I don't remember the brand of pump but it was before the Chinese import days. Thanks for the interesting video! 👍🇺🇸
I used one of these to pull a vac on my dad's mini split. It was very hot after 30 minutes, but did pull a vaccum to less then 200 microns. I would also not recommend because I doubt it would reliably last for multiple jobs.
Interesting, ive got a vacuum pump that was like $40-50 off amazon, had it for about 5 years, neglected it since i still have yet to change the oil in it, N it still runs like a beast pulling systems down under 100microns. Also have a elitech brand touchscreen vac pump that was about $500 when i got it, had it for about 2-3 years and its a beast as well
Curtis, I really appreciate you using Quality tools in your business! Veto , Yellow Jacket and other great brands. I try to buy used name band tools at good prices to save money. I do like the brand Vevor too. Thanks for taking the time to do this! Always enjoy tool reviews. This makes me think when you were pulling a vacuum with a pretty new Schrader removal tool. Not to successful. Oh thanks!
I bought a diesel heater thru that outfit. Hope i have better luck. The electric to heat my shop is quite costly when we get below freezing. Due to its cheap construction, I’ll rely on electric for maintaining 55deg, and use the diesel only when attended for raising the temperature.
I found a similar single stage vacuum pump, and it was absolutely worthless. It'd run for as long as you wanted it to. It just wouldn't get down below 1,000 microns. The manufacturer sent me another one without any hassle -- it was just as bad as the first. On the other hand, the Harbor Freight two stage vacuum pump actually works quite well, if rather slowly on a split system.
Good video ! Check the oil for proper level. Should be middle of the glass I believe. I think u said u filled it to the top. Also check exhaust that it’s venting. Vacuum pumps are sensitive to proper oil levels I’ve noticed.
I got one just like and it seems to work just fine for automotive use. And you can hear a change from it being on without connection to a chamber and with a connection. Yours didn't seem to change. Maybe their quality control is the weak link.
No all of them are the same. I purchased one brand Zeny in 2018 and still working perfectly i runs it for hours and Never stops like that. I paid only $60 bucks at that time now its about $73 but still a good little vacuum good for me👍
Sometimes you can get an old Edwards pump for as much or a little more than one of those. They're tough as nails and will pull very fast with the right hoses.
I’d say 80% positive. Their probes, meters, gauges, manometers, and scales are spot on. I’ve had two different negative experiences with their leak detectors.
@@HVACGUY thank you for responding curtis I am going to purchase these products for my grandson.hes in hvacr training . he's been following your videos along with me.he appreciates you and your channel
you have to put a fan in front of it so that it doesnt overheat. The chinese pumps get hot and have a limited duty cycle. If you want to run it for 40 minutes in the summer (which is probably when you dont have ac or others dont have ac and they are sweating enough to finally get it fixed) it will overheat the thermistor. If i had a high end Robinair brand i would still not want it to get hot because that would shorten its lifespan. Not everyone has thousands of dollars to spend and the Chinese are good for making OKAY products that will allow a savy person to get the job done. Someone who is smart enough to do the job on their own that can do it better than most pros. Thank them for their efforts and making these products affordable and accessible. You also dont want to buy the cheapest chinese product possible. If you do then you get what you deserve because theres levels of quality with different brands and different cfm and hp ratings. Its only a few dollars more. You cant buy the cheapest crap in existence and conclude they are all crap. Harbor freight could have one that performs better than amazon. Have to read the reviews or watch videos of guys who test them etc.....
I have been using the same vacume pump as the one on yr video I vacume 15mints at a time so it dont overheat fr the past 3 years it works well here in Mexico we buy alot chinese products the USA products cost too much fr us...
I wonder how much of the pump oil got pulled backwards through your hoses, gauges and into the recovery drums? lol, that's what happens when they stop without a check valve or being valved off. 😬
hi Those Vevor need to have the air pump stripped and cleaned before first start . Huge amount of tube vids on dirty pumps straight outta the new box . The units that are not cleaned dirty the oil after first use fine particulate metal debris is in the oil . ****Does this cause pump seizure don`t no . I purchased a 2 stage 4cfm ACME vac pump [ american products international ] [made in china ] Pulled down to under 5 microns 1st use. Gauge on pump 5--10mins under 5micron
Tools you cannot depend on do not belong in my van, toolbag or home. Nothing beats JB, YJ, FP and Appion. Navac and Milwaukee are cool too, but I'd go JB if it was my money everytime. Had JB pumps run for weeks non stop pulling centrifugals down over the winter. Change the oil, turn it on and forget about it. My YJ 8CFM is okay too, but I much prefer the oil drain and fill on a JB plus they are 100% field serviceable.
Bad video and opinion: 1. Connect only one recovery tank, with the shortest hose. (That is known to be the correct way by every HVAC training program I have ever seen.). Your vacuum pump offers two connections. One is a quarter inch and there probably is a half inch inside diameter. Which means you could go with a shorter and larger size hose. You want to do an honest and fair video I would recommend you remake this using the vacuum pump, the shortest and largest hose that you have or even if you just want to go with a common quarter inch hose from the vacuum pump to the recovery tank that is fine, but it should be less then 3 m or less than 3 feet for a realistic opinion. I would then put the micron gauge on and start it up before you engage the vacuum pump. I don't mean to be disparaging, but all those T connections and two tanks and five lines, etc. are totally ridiculous and make no sense to anybody who has the slightest bit of professional training.
Yeah I was thinking the same thing. So many potentially leaky joints. Seems like there was a lot of conversion of standards going on there. I will say though that these pumps are not designed for continuous use which is a shame. From manual: 30 minutes in conditions of free air circulation 15 minutes with the connected load. Some versions (higher power) also lists max 5 mins at max vacuum.
Products from Vevor are really hit-or-miss. That vacuum pump is clearly a piece of junk - but, I have a chamber vacuum sealer from Vevor that works like a champ. Before buying ANYTHING from Vevor, you really need to look for videos on RUclips that show real-world use of the product over more than just a couple of days after unboxing it. Take care and God Bless.
I was between a rock and hard spot, got a vacuum pump from the famous Chinese outlet store, the c damn thing wouldn't pull below 25 inches. It probably wants Chinese voltage.
I used my cheap single stage vacuum pump the other day with two brand new recovery tanks and I could not get down even close to 500 µm. Then, I used a 6 inch quarter inch hose from the vacuum pump to the recovery tank and I was able to pull both of them down to around 350. That's when I stopped the pump, not saying that it could not have pulled it down more. You are set up of multiple tanks, and long lines is totally incorrect .
Oddly enough I bought an automotive styled vacuum pump from harbor freight once that literally pulled 60 microns that was right at the port but I forgot what I paid for it well under a hundred.
Thing sure was tiny. Looks like the same junk you get for vacuuming a cars ac system. How much does a little 4cfm just better run these days? I honestly think $120 for that thing is a rip off.
Might work for a DIY auto A/C situation once...or twice. China makes products for a consumer/throwaway economy. The USA is not like that anymore. We're on a par with say - Venezuela, no wait- their economy eclipses ours by a wide margin!

Hopefully the Chinese Company that made this Vacuum Pump made the electronics in their Spy Balloon.
It can pull a vacuum from 60,000 ft😂
Ya waiting until it was off the coast was stupid. Must not care about the major effect. Just the minor one. (Collateral damage from shooting it down)
Probably. Everything they make is made there. 😁
China got the info they wanted radioed back to them while our Defense Dept. sat on their hands and did nothing. Yep weare real smart.
I almost said yes to this exact one 😂 been busy so thankfully I saw your video before getting back to them 😅 good video 👍🏽
I think that same company makes those '' Balloons '' that was flying over the U.S . this week 🤣😅😂 Good demo Curt ...

I just bought a navac I figured that was sketchy enough lol 😆

Yeah you made me laugh out loud on this one.

It probably shut off on thermo. I don't trust what is claimed for the cheap price. I don't think it's rugged.
