Haven't made a video this long in a while but I guess words come naturally to me when I have to talk about bad motion-controlled video games. Do we genuinely think that motion controls will come back? Maybe when/if VR becomes more widespread. Then we can have the Wii 2.

Rabbid I am gonna hand you a hot take and this is a spoiler if you did not watch the video so do not read on until you watched it.
      .
But Mario Party 8 is still better then 9 id even argue MP8 is the last good Mario Party. With 10 being better then 9 in its concept but its not going to be as good as the original style Mario Parties and its stuck on the WiiU which hurts it even though I like the game.
      .
And that's a good video idea make a chart showing your favorite Mario Party Titles and if its to short make it like a compilation of smaller series in a chart.

Playing the devil's advocate for Wii Music for a second, one thing that WAS really great was the minigame in it where you had to find the mistakes in a couple bars of a melody and fix them before the timer ran out, since I blame that game for tricking me into doing ear training far before I ever picked up an actual instrument and it made learning music by ear much easier.

I always wondered about Kinect. I mean they had to have tried the games themselves before shipping them right? They have to at one point set up a kinect on a TV, put their game in and saw that the device didn't register anything. I say that because if you take let's say Steel Battalion, you could reduce the things you can interact by half and it would probably work fine(?). Buy they added so much stuff on the screen that even if the Kinect was way more accurate, you would still have trouble choosing between each button or lever. So did they tried it in the best possible conditions and it worked great (ideal distance, angle, lighting, body size of player, big TV) and people only had issues because no one could replicate those conditions or did they just shipped the game without even testing it?
Or the Free Riders one. If they saw the game barely worked, why not make it so the game just register you just leaning side to side and maybe forward/backward to change your speed? They added so much unnecessary shit that made it unplayable. Again I must ask, did they test the game in ideal conditions and it worked OK so they could just add a few things to spice things up, or did they just ship the game completely untested?

You know I think I got a really good topic for you to talk about. Top Five Tragic Final Bosses. While it can overlap a lot of your previous countdowns, I think the idea of presenting a tragic tale as a final boss, usually a fight meant to gratify and give you a sense of satisfaction, is such a powerful way to amplify a game’s story and be the last heavy hitter for the game's tale. It also would give you the opportunity to talk about some good tragic bosses that you didn’t have a chance before. I got four really good examples:
Nishiki (Yakuza Kiwami): Your former best friend turned enemy who was lead to a dark path because of your attempt to help him. It doesn’t help in the final boss, you actually see flashbacks of the time where both of you use to be friends before it is descent to becoming enemies. I also love the title of the boss theme “For Whose Sake” which contradicts his old boss them in Yakuza “For My Friends Sake” which shows how far Nishiki has fallen and has gone to the point he doesn’t know what purpose he’s fighting for. Top it off the somber theme which contradicts most Yakuza music, it just really is sad, especially the built up throughout the game.
The Boss (Metal Gear Solid 3): I think you know about, but I also think the way you finish the fight as well as the atmosphere should give her a spot here.
Infel and Nenesha (Ar Tonelico 2): A pair shadow archetype of the main heroine's Cloche and Luca, who wants to give the world happiness, but their means is trapping everyone in a dream from a belief that people can never truly be happy with each other, stemming from their past where they failed the same quest the main characters are doing and suffered for it, wishing to prevent the same fate to heroes since they don’t believe it will work. The final boss music happy and peaceful, showing how they both genuinely just want to make the world happy despite their past, doesn’t help in the actual fight both question why you're fighting them since you want peace as well. Seriously though, SUBLIMATION adds a lot to the fight.
Gehrman (Bloodborne): Now this is the big one, a fight between you and your mentor who you just want to free from his suffering and. However, Gehrman is not going to let you do that, trying to kill you because he wants you to be free as well and is not willing to let another take his burden knowing what they’ll have to go through. The flower field, the music, everything really feels like a tragic final act for the best boss in the game for me, in Hunter's Dream which was your sanctuary. This is pretty surprising for a game you fight plenty of horrible monsters and feel triumphant when winning since this is such an outlier.

the irony about Wii Music is 2 things: the many wacky instruments you can play with besides the basic stuff like Dog or kung fu and there's a little minigame mode where it does test your ears well enough to help practice music.

i'm actually baffled by the inclusion of wii play. i've never had any trouble with the motion controls in wii play and i think it does the job if you consider it a $10 game since it comes with a wiimote. i mean it was the demo i played at the mall that convinced me the wii was cool and good so i think i'm just biased.

Ah, Lair. The number of hours I sunk into that game as a kid was unreal. It took me actual months to beat the stage where you have to avoid the spotlights just because the controls were so janky.
And yet, I loved it lmao. The serotonin from 'big dragon flying around and blasting fireballs at things' was powerful enough to override everything that sucked about the controls

I can actually picture a fighting game that'd suit not having a controller. But it wouldn't have motion controls either. It'd be a manager type game where you shout at the screen what you want the fighter to do. I think that would be a laugh, and the technology's much more there and functional so it shouldn't be as tricky to get working either. Of course even in a game like that I'd still have controller controls for pausing and menu navigation.

  • @Pipkiablo

Most of the games I played on my Wii were light gun games or Gamecube ports of Resident Evil games that had you using the Wiimote like a normal controller. Light gun games like House of the Dead were always my go-to in arcades so I liked being able to play them at home, but I never really cared for motion control games otherwise.
Also the Sixaxis was the absolute worst thing ever. I disabled it in any game that let me. I wasn't surprised that it was mainly used as a gimick in games made early on in the PS3's cycle and then was completely forgotten about by developers, much the same way the touchpad button on the PS4 controller was used as a touchpad in early games like Infamous Second Son and now it's just used as yet another button to bring up your minimap or something in everything else. It also wasn't helpful that the Sixaxis controllers from the early days of the console before they went back to the Dualshock model are extremely sensitive to the point of often screwing you over while you play certain games. I might accidentally have launched myself off a platform to my death in Ratchet and Clank or chucked grenades at myself in every game that has grenades just because I gently caressed the shoulder buttons when I set it down in my lap for a second.

With Wii shovelware, you expect the motion controls to be bad. The real pain comes from games that have motion controls tacked on. Games that are also on PS3/360 that play fine with buttons to attack and stuff but the Wii just HAS to have motion controls to do basic actions. Take Spider-Man Web of Shadows on Wii. I enjoyed it but shaking the Wiimote to attack was a pain on the arms. Waving the Wiimote to swing was cool but the novelty wears off quick and I can't tell you how many times I died during QTEs due to unresponsive motion controls.

Not to mentioned that Secret Rings is one of the worst Sonic games out there and MP8 was at least decent IMO. Better than 9 & 10.

Yeah... the only horror game I kinda think could possibly work with motion controls would be Fatal Frame- the concept spinning around with you switch as a carmera trying to fend off ghosts seem like it could be something... but the WiiU tried it and it wasn’t well executed in the slightest.
