I'm so happy many of you experienced canners are doing a lot of entry level videos. I see so many new folks in the chats looking for info and support.
Green beans in pints was the very first thing I pressure canned. I sent pictures to everyone, I was so proud.

I would love to see a series like the last two videos you’ve made. I grew up in foster care, and didn’t have a “mom” to teach me anything like this, now I’ve been learning through RUclips and love this. I have also been helping a few ladies in the neighborhood can. We have canning parties lol. This would be so helpful to all newbies. Thank you as always

The only thing that blanching accomplishes is it keeps them from floating in your jars. If these are going to the county fair, then blanch them. Otherwise, raw packing is fine.

You can do it! Green beans are a great first effort, or try carrots. No are easy to handle. You can raw pack the first time and consider hot pack once you're comfortable. Both are low cost vegies to start.
I'd suggest using your first batch soon, to reinforce the knowledge that you are making something good. Once you have that confidence, you can start stocking your pantry.

@@rachalnocchi5600 I ordered and All American in July, but I have not had it as yet, but in the interim I saw a larger one available, so I bought that as well. I hope that the larger one will get to me (customs permitting, they seem to stop everything) so at least I can use it for my current produce, the 910 I ordered originally, is more suitable for me in all honesty, but needs must. I know that the lady on 'Homestead Heart' has uploaded a number of videos thus far using her Presto canner. She recently received an All American, so it could change from now on. She has canned a variety of produce and has quite an extensive playlist - if that helps. All the best and happy canning!

I thought this video was great and you did the right thing showing the basic prep at the start. I am new to water bath canning, haven't had a pressure canner as yet, but I underestimated how much produce it takes to even fill one 1pt jar, let alone a quart jar. For those who are new to this and may not have access to large quantities of produce, it does show them the quantities of produce required just for a single canner tier of jars. I have seen others prep fruit harvests, they return to show you 21 quart jars full - my back would be in half after all that work! Those with large homesteads and vast experience have the self discipline to persevere and get the job done, a number of us are simply trying new techniques to preserve the smaller quantities that we have. I saw a pack of pears in a shop, due to be discarded - one tiny blemish on one. I couldn't resist, I bought them and canned them. 5 pears = 1pt jar. It is surprising how much you get into these jars when you have to pack them according to the strict rules. For me, canning has its place as our freezer dependency is becoming risky. I hope to be able to pressure can my home grown veg etc, but I am waiting on my canner. (fingers crossed!) I live in the UK.

Miss Heather thank you for the heads up about Country View Bulk Store. Went there today for wide mouth lids...only half sleeves left but picked up what I needed. Enjoyed the 2.5 hours one way as there were cds I wanted to listen to...win win in my book. Your patience in teaching us all things canning is such a blessing. Thanks ❤ Today is Aug 6th. Wide mouth lids were 30 cents each and reg was 26 cents each...do not know when you purchase..think the.receipt said the 3rd..tried to read it...you paid 22 cents for wide mouth and 18 cents for reg mouth. Up 8 cents a lid...ouch. But I have them.

Thank you for taking the time to share your process. The one good thing that I had growing up was that we had a garden and small animals like chickens, pigs, goats, and rabbits. Also that my parents canned food so I was able to learn from them. My father was a fantastic cook he learned a lot of his skills being in the military, so I was able to watch him and learned to cook from scratch. Not everyone was raised this way so this make me great full that I learned these skills and that my parents gave me the opportunity to have the knowledge of preparation. Thank you again for the knowledge you are sharing to us all!

Oh, Heather! Guess who is getting back into the swing of things?! I'm buying 2 bushels, hopefully 4, this week! Most will be here at the house, a few to Dad and Max, and i'll be making some to sell (Daddy needs to make some money!) I'll be washing mine, outside, using (4) 18gal rope handled totes from walmart. I'll be putting holes in (2) of them, turning them into colanders so it makes it easy to wash/ rinse and strain them out! Pretty shary, huh? I'll be using this method for ALL my BIG future projects of veggies and possible fruits. =) anyway, it's really nice to go back and watch your videos to have a refresher as well as the books. Hope to hear from you! =)

This video is for everyone. Even when you "know" you can always learn something new or incorporate something into ones process. For example using the kitchen shears... Had I used them instead of my pairing knife I could have avoided a lot of cramping; and saved my hands for the apples and pears.

A fellow Heather! I just found your canning vids last night and been binge watching. My mom canned my whole life, but she never actually taught us kids to do it. I kind of got the jist of it as I watched, but never actually 'participated' in the canning process. Her canner looks exactly like yours, though she got her's decades ago. As I was watching your other vids, I was listening to you and thinking, "She's a MIchigander!" as many of you have a certain accent (very similar to Canadians). Now, in this vid, you confirmed my suspicions!! No worries, I love Michiganders...I'm married to one!! I'm an Ohioan (yes, one of those evil neighbors to the south...lol!!) Loving your canning vids and thank you for the wealth of canning info, as I'm preparing to delve into it as soon as I can get a pressure canner myself (they're expensive, especially right now!).

Oregano essential oil is very effective to Carpal tunnel and it also helps arthritis too my husband’s hand is really bad with carpal tunnel and he uses oregano oil every day and it actually works well, he got the cortisone shot once and it only lasted three days then his hand started shaking really bad but now they don’t anymore because of the oregano essential oil just thought I’d share that with you or whoever has carpal tunnel 😁 I use Lipton onion soup mix for my green beans and my carrots and it’s so good! I wonder if it's not so much syphoning as it may be soaking up the water as they cook....do you tightly pack those suckers in the jar? hahaha I noticed if I dont pack them in super tight, I get floating and my headspace will look off. I have competitions with myself on keeping the perfect headspace, and when it's off, it bugs me. A lot. HAHAHAHA

Wow Heather, I literally canned green beans for the first time yesterday(4/ one and a half pints). A small amount, but so rewarding. If I could have waited just one more day for you, lol.

Same here, I canned green beans for the first time in the wee hours of yesterday morning! lol I harvested about six pounds out of the garden the day before and was able to fill six quarts... Very rewarding.

I think it came with the sink when we bought the house, but with my brain injuries, I honestly don't remember!

Green beans is something I haven't canned yet. I plan to grow several plants, so if they grow well, I'll try canning them up! Yep, I've really only eaten good old DelMonte. Blukk!

I’ve always grown up hand snapping our green beans, collecting ends in one hand and beans in the other. When my hands fill, toss them in bowls. Inevitably, somewhere along the way I will loose my rhythm and put the wrong handful in the wrong bowl. 🤦‍♀️ Now, I have developed trigger fingers in both hands so I might try using my kitchen shears. They look so pretty and it looks easier.

I love your videos. We did buy our shelves at Sams club too. Thank you for sharing your with us. I canned a bushel of green beans yesterday. I still have to wash my jars and put them on my new shelves. Happy canning! Carol in Michigan.

I can't wait until I have access to fresh produce. Your green beans look amazing. I would can my veggies in pints because I'm the only one who eats their veggies. My husband's favorite food group is dessert. 😊🥰

The food groups have been reformulated. They are: canned, frozen, drive thru, pick up and instant!😉

Thank you very much for showing how you can green beans. I have been wanting to get started canning and this would be so easy for me! I adore peppercorns and dried onion in my beans, so I'm going to do this too!

If you are a candidate for Carpal Tunnel surgery I would wholeheartedly recommend it. I've had the surgery on both hands. Since I am weird about taking pain killers I didn't take any. The relief from the pain that the carpal tunnel was causing me was well worth it. I only wish I had done it sooner.

I am! But I have 2 friends who had it and are in worse pain than before so I am terrified. I can't function without my hands. They are the hardest working part of my body. haha But I spent over a week braced up unable to move my wrist at all, and in so much pain, that surgery may be the only option for me pretty soon. I appreciate you sharing that with me. Thank you!

I'd like to know what kind of bean seeds you plant. How do you get them to grow in the box? LOL Great video Heather. Even an experienced canner can learn from these vids. I will no longer be blanching my green beans. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
