Hey Dom. If whenever you have many issues with your onions, garlic or other crops. Just support another organic farmer like yourself. Even Though we may plant our own food and fruits, but some years are not guaranteed in getting all that we planted. Some summers many lost their crops either thru storms, bad weathers, bugs etc. So always get to know a couple of good farmers around you, where you can buy the things that you have lost so that you can prep and put away. The same thing goes for your meat animals. Get to know a butcher in your area, just in case anything goes wrong, you can go to your butcher and buy a whole pig and get him to butcher it and cut it up and parcel it for you. You can buy them whole or half, same for cows, goats and sheep. They are going through the same things like many others. It's just that some years, some goes thru more than others and at different times. So it's great to support each other as small farmers. And by doing that, you are building a strong relationship with your local farmers and community, which I think is the best thing to do. You can all help out each other in many other ways you couldn't have even imagined. So get building up your community with others who believe in the way you garden and raise your animals. And y'all can learn from each other, give ideas etc. Because I think you might need more onions. I know for my 2 girls and myself that won't be enough to last us until the next year harvest, so I would have to make up the rest by getting it from my local farmer. I hope this helps you or someone else gardening. God bless and keep, keeping at it. From Georgetown, Ontario, Canada 🇨🇦🙏🏾❤️🙏🏾🇨🇦 Have a bless morning.
Hey Dom! Girl, you inspire us so much over here in VA. I planted 100+ onion seeds, maybe 70 germinated, and we may have ~30 at final count so I’m thankful. Please share how you were successful.
I haven't had success growing onions from seeds. I grow onions from Dixon Dale farms starts. Then I fertilized every 3 weeks with Fish Fertilizer or Neem meal
Dom you got a good harvest! You should have saved the seeds from the flowers and started unions for the fall garden!! Thanks 4 sharing & happy gardening everyone!!
Great harvest! I planted onions but for fun.I cant eat to many. I had a so so harvest .I had small ones and a bunching size.I will dehydrate them to make onion powder.
@@faithfamilyhomestead thx for asking! Begin harvesting ab 10 days ago. Some inground, baby pool and tote container. Harvey Container Garden had better striations than my garlic. 9b new Orleans we have to chill garlic B4 planting. I'm satisfied overall. Flavor, flavor and healing properties.
My goal was to grow a year's garlic, or 52 heads, one a week. Fell a little short, 37! Excited to watch you weigh your 2024 harvests. Great thing to do!
Hey Dom, I hope this helps but Iv'e noticed whenever I start having an issue with my garden more often than not it tends to be linked with my walk with God and I havent been decerning it like a spiritual attack or something. There was a time I was neglecting what I knew God had told me to do out of fear despite many oppotunities and eventually there was suddenly a big infestation of aphids (our enemy loves gettng at what we love), I didnt think anything would survive but when I got back into prayer and repentance ect they literally miraculously revived. Recently I had been helping a few people out in prayer, I began dialing back on perservence and the spiritual fruit I was cultivating didnt reach maturity. When I was made aware of it, went out in the garden routinely my bean plants had been severed by a rat, there were beans but I was forced to dry them as is, many shrunk beyond usability. Think it's tied to our sins affecting the land. I don't know where your relationship with God is but maybe check in with him, it can help, even pray that he gives increase to your plants... He cares about obvious things like this. I'm at a place where 'something happens' with the garden I ought to check with God why, It might be nothing and just a need to tend it or it can be something. If this says anything and is helpful then yay but if not then let it go.

Dom it called spooning take your finger go around your onion to remove Soil from around them, so the onion can get larger.

So crazy, every yr is so different
@@faithfamilyhomestead yes it is..
Great harvest.
Good onion harvest! Mine was about same size, though fewer. Garlic did better than onions.
Thx for sharing 🙂
When did you harvest your garlic?

Dom, girlfriend! You do such a great job with onions. I am so jealous. For the 2nd year, my onion starts aren't bulbing up.
Awe that sucks!! Hate that
❤❤ great job
If you plan on using the tops, weigh them too. It’s a harvest.
Curing onions is done for long term storage, but if you’re freeze drying do you still need to cure them? Great harvest.
No, but I'm not sure if or how many I'm freeze drying, and I'm too busy to think about that now, haha
We'll let them cure to give me brain space

Still feels weird giving advise on youtube that no one asked for lol.
I'm glad the Lord has shown you that for your life 😊
May I ask where you got those amazing overalls? They look so cute and fun!

@@faithfamilyhomestead thank you!!
❤❤❤

When you freeze dry the onions will your following batches of food smell or taste like onions?
It hasn't in the past
@@faithfamilyhomestead thanks. I just got one and want to do onions.
I would have saved the small ones for canning.
Have you canned onions before? I've never done that.
Dom ,I pickled my small ones . This wasn't a great year for onions for some reason. You did great !
@faithfamilyhomestead I have pickled onions and I have used them with green beans, beets, jalapeños, etc.
I’m thinking if you’re just going to chop them they don’t need to be cured
Agreed, but I'm not ready to chop them 😅
