Found this video whilst researching Celtic gods for a UK based DnD campaign I'm running, and this was very useful! Saved me hours of scrawling through wikipedia articles lol
Lugh vs Balor sounds suspiciously similar to Odysseus vs the cyclops Polyphemus in the Odyssey. Incidentally, Roman lore identifies Polyphemus and and the nymph Galatea as the ancestors of the Celts, as in for example the Metamophoses of Ovid. I wonder if there's any kind of connection. Did the Greeks and Romans draw on Celtic myths when constructing their own, or was it the other way around?
Balor has featured in several videogames of course. Prominently in Castlevania Aria of Sorrow/Dawn of Sorrow/Portrait of Ruin. In Aria, he has one eye closed for the first part of the battle. Do enough damage though and he'll unleash deadly beams from the closed eye. Lugh was featured, somewhat, as part of the PS2 reboot of The Bard's Tale. That being saId, would you mind digging into the Dutch/Belgian legendary/mythical tale of De Bokkenrijders (The Buckriders in English) sometime? Bandits riding flying goats is sufficiently out there to be interesting, I think.

I like many others know of Balor from the WWE wrestler Finn Balor. Finn said that Balor was a demon. He also hinted that basically his name "Finn Balor" means Demon King with is the other personae he becomes during matches.
Not etymologically speaking. It means no such thing. Finn is from the old irish Fionn meaning fair haired. Rig would be the word that denotes royalty. Seen in names like Ryan. (little king or prince) Ruari (Rory anglicized) meaning red king. Morrigan = Mor (great) Rig (royalty) Ban/bean (woman) or perhaps as An (a diminutive suffix) equaling a name that essentially means the great goddess or the great queen or even the great little queen. Tough to translate tbh. Finn Balor would mean Fair haired fomorian named balor. or blonde balor.

I mean it could be possible at a stretch but it's extremely likely. The Greeks only barely started interacting with Ancient Ireland in the 3rd century BC with only a few people exploring it until the 1st century BC and then nothing more. The stories of the Cyclops originate well, well before that with a lot of sources predating the 7th century BC. On the other hand ancient Ireland and Irish mythology comes shortly after this at around the 5th century BC. So this proves that both Balor and the Cyclops originated long before either country knew of the other's existence. Now where you could be right comes with the fact that the Celts that arrived in Ireland could have heard stories from Celts that had invaded territory controlled by Ancient Greece whom then heard stories of the Cyclops and later on after arriving in Ireland used it to come up with Balor. However this is still unlikely as the Celts that arrived in Ireland most likely were of the same descent as the Iberian Celts while the ones that Invaded Ancient Greece came directly from mid-Gaulia and the Hallstat region (around where Austria is today).
has anyone seen hellboy and the golden army the elf king in that is named Balor and his son is prince nowada i just thought that was cool. Pretty sure he also only had one eye
Seeing as the Irish and Celts spread and rules most of Europe going into the Middle east. This story sounds familiar. Balor's death by his grandson. A different video shows small boy with a sling, then beheads him. Sounds like David and Goliath. Is this another source of Hebrew and Christian Methology? .
They are separate spiritual systems, and one does not dominate the other. Should not dominate the other. Christianity, it seems, was not meant for the Irish. For look how the modern Pope has turned his back on us out of guilt over the Catholic Scandal, and recall the history of war we've savaged our island with over the Troubles.
Could be likely since the foundations may have came from the same original ideas as both modern Europeans and modern Indians come from the same original ethnic group and culture being Indo-Europeans.
