Yes, they were sea giants but also had some who were very beautiful, such as Bes. Also the Tuatha were the remnants of the people of Nemed who sailed West to escape the Formorians and learned magic from the world tree, the Danu. So they were gods but also immortal wizards who had once been "human".
@Gnome-kc7pr In one version, yes. She is also the tree, the spirit of the tree, the guardian of the tree... depends who you ask. Great thing about Irish mythology is there is no canon, various versions and they are all true!
0:00 So this is monster giant one eye along along forces The Fomorians. 0:38 Rocks or stone around circle. 0:53 So this is Bayor the giant with one eye in the middle of his forehead. 1:33 he throw with stone at one eye killing him instantly. His forces are retreated. 2:46 Wow nice fighting skill love it! 2:59 They got injured and force to retreated heal and ready next on battlefield. 👏👏Good. Very good story of The Fomorians The Mysterious Ancestral Race that Inhabited Ancient Ireland. 🌲Marry Christmas and Happy New Year!
I suspect the stories of Balor have been well mixed with later stories from other cultures. The single eye, pierced by a spear hearken back to Odesseus and the cyclops. The sling and stone, David and Goliath. What the original form is, may be lost in time.
Slight correction that needs to be made. They didn't originally live on Ireland (that was the Tuatha). In fact, some of the earliest surviving versions of myths quite literally say that the Irish people were chased across the sea from their original homeland far in the West, and that's how they ended up in Ireland, with the Fomorians in hot pursuit.
@user-cg2tw8pw7j As someone Irish myself, I have absolutely no idea where you heard that from. At best DNA points towards Spain as the origin point of what we know genetically as "Celtic".
A giant with one eye in the middle of his forehead, that threw bolts of lightning? Where have I heard this before.. 🤔And he was killed by a stone thrown by a sling?
Pretty solid video... In terms of history, would like to see the warring states period of japan....that'd be interesting to do, since you guys basically did the Trojan war...
Yes. I'm from SE Wales. (Wentloog, Gwent.) My actual name was Davies which I found was Irish. Possibly came from Nemed...as in Cornish Deved...means sheep.
Yo in David and Goliath, David a person threw a rock at a tall guy. In this though, the dude through a rock at a dream entity. If I threw a rock at a statue would it be the same as David and Goliath?… I threw a rock at a statue, David and Goliath… right?
I have to say that the stories fit perfectly into the mold of Greeks, Romans etc and their tales of the Gods battling in the skies as explanation for the Plasma Discharge Events between planets A LÀ Talbottt/Velakovski 👍
The Milesians were the Celts. Lugh was Tuatha Dé Danann (and a quarter Fomorian), so certainly not a Celt (Milesian). Some say he fathered Cúchulainn with a Milesian lady however
They were the early neolithic hunter gatherer settlers from Northern Africa. R1B Y-88 Haplogroup. They reached Ireland prior to ice age and survived on the southern coast of Ireland during the ice age. They built the Dolmens and possibly Bru na Boyne complexes. The people of Connacht carry their DNA.
Decedents of Danu. Mother of Danava Demons. They were banished to the west of India. Possibly settled all around Europe thats why the rivers/waterbodies are derivatives of Danu, e.g. Danube, Danau. And the Celtic goddess Danu.
This is the sort of blarney I have told my grand children when they were wee ones and believed everything granda told them. This still think granda is the smartest man ever and he knows everything. Ah! the laughter and smiles of wee ones are worth more than gold.
No wonder 😮 My Irish friend: "what bro???" Its nothing...just watching RUclips bout the folklore of your ancestors. At least yall didn't have slaves 🤭 Him:
You mean that Ireland is 85% Ethnic Gaelic Irish and Travellers (make up almost 2% of Irishpopulation). Another 9% is European and the other 6% is a mix of Middle Eastern, Black,, East Asian and other.
Thanks for the Irish folklore it’s the perfect Christmas gift

Eh, the part about them being wizards is more than likely a part of the Christianisation of Ireland rather than the original belief.
You should do an entire celtic folklore lugh the paladin and nuadha and cichol
"The most epic battles between darkness and light"
He threw a rock at him.
Adore this kind of stories...

Ah the formidable Fomorians. Interesting takes on them go raibh maith agat for sharing.🌊👁🍀
0:53 I read that “Balor” was also the grandfather of “Lugh”.
He was

Odin had many names
@@badwolf1699 I was referring to the Cyclopes and to Goliath.
He was obviously a Cylon.
Sounds a lot like what's happening to Europe today with the relentless influx of people's from other lands .

David and Goliath
The Irish Version😊
If middle easterners and people in Ireland have the same history, these stories may be older that we think…

I think it was a metaphor for Viking raiders.
No! These legends existed pre-viking contact.
@solidsnivy5639 ironic how it fits the Vikings though.

Wasn't Lugh a son to a human and a fomorian, and he was the one prophesised to be the one to end the war against fomorians and humans?
The Donorians were human enough to interbreed with the Tutha de Dannon
That explains the Irish on the drink, it all makes sense 😮
Connor McGregor is related of the Formorians because he's threatening everything like celebrities....
One of my favorite Celtic Gods is “Taranis - God of Thunder”.

SOUNDS LIKE THE MYSTERIOUS SEA PEOPLE WHO ATTACKED ANCIENT EGYPT
Finn balor is his modern day rebirth lol.
My theory is that the Fomorians had the Fear Of Missing Out.
Somewhat similar to the ancients gods of Greece triumph over the Titans.
Dah Onii' -Jack
There is an excellent comic book called "Slaine" that deals with most of this. "
They all fear of missing out.
They could've been Baltic/Germanic pirates then
So my ancestors basically saved the world by defeating the evil race of giants. You're welcome world. BTW love the art work for this video.
The Fomorians were never depicted in myth as a global threat. These myths are very particular to Ireland.
