You know what? I actually think Von Bolt's theme played by an actual orchestra could go pretty damn hard. I mean, the whole point of his theme is that instead of being a techno, upbeat theme like all the "youngsters" he hates so much have, he has a slow orchestra theme as a juxtaposition. So playing this theme with an actual orchestra could go a pretty long way (plus not having to sit through that slow beginning every turn is just a net positive).

it sucks that they nailed sensei but totally missed the mark on other songs, hawke is such an easy win it's upsetting that imo it's a downgrade from the old theme, and I really miss the super CO theme, it's my favourite track. I know it shows up for boss missions and that's great but that's pretty rare. Would be nice to have a toggle or maybe it randomly picks between CO alt and the generic super theme. Idk.
So, Clone Andys glowing eyes made me think, since all the Black Hole Troops also has the glowing eyes... Are all of Black Holes soldiers clones? It feels like it makes sense for them? But that raises the question: Since Flak has been promoted to his position, is he hiding some slightly glow-y blue eyes under that red pair of goggles? Also, the Black Hole Trooper is the BEST trooper.
I always had a headcanon of Black Hole being a nation that secretly integrated aliens and humans into their government, unlike the rest of the world, and Black Hole needs resources!! The allied nations, of course, just casually dismiss the reality of aliens living among them because let's just face it... that's not even in the top five weird things about this franchise.

37:24 I think that the implications of the Power Theme for Clone Andy are what make it more interesting. Nell, at the tutorial, said that the CO's power comes from the heart. Taking the ones from other characters (including the bad guys) we can see that they are more upbeat. This could be a way to tell their emotion/excitement in that moment. Power Clone Andy's theme it's different from them, because it sounds like it's devoid of any kind of emotion. This could represent the fact that Clone Andy is no more than a shell, an empty husk that uses the body of Andy to stand still. I really love the details that this franchise has.
Honestly, Olaf's power just gave me oldschool Red Alert Hell March vibes with the choir and heavy guitar. I felt like they were going for that given Olaf and Blue Moon's role when you first meet him. I think that's a neat reference if it's true. Big agree on Sami being a miss. I was thinking the same thing, it needed boot marching and maybe some troop chants to fit her identity.
I think you're wrong about Grit's power theme. It's meant to sound more powerful because that's when Grit feels like its about time to take his opponent down "Reckon its time to take you down" - Grit. While he's shelling his opponents to hell n back, he normally has his feet up and possibly asleep, but when he uses his power, that's he starts taking things seriously.
Can we all collectively agree that Hawke’s theme mainly lost points because the alarm and Super Power noise at the start aren’t present? That did so much to set the tone for Hawke in the original!

For Lash, what immediately jumped out to me is they changed her eyes from downturned to upturned, or tare-me to tsuri-me, which gives a very different initial impression from the character design. Generally in Japanese media those different types of eyes are associated with different character traits or assumptions of traits. For the weebs out there think about the difference in appearance and character between Tsukasa and Kagami in Lucky Star, Ryou and Kyou in Clannad, or Tsukihi and Karen in Monogatari. Taking Lash from a Tsukihi to a Karen in design really changes how her character comes off.

@@whichDude sonya yes I agree with u because I am not a fan of classical music but Drakes theme is definitely one of the best in the game easy too 5 themes imo.
The Twinkles on the Orange Star COs theme fit with the ''Stars'' theme around each nation. Nell having the most Twinkles because shes the Leader, Sami Having Twinkles because she's a orange star CO Its like a motif. But I Agree her personality of Tomboyish, Foot soldier expert they should have done something different but well, They cant get things always right yeah? Also each nation has a Motif for some reason Gold Comet has Oriental Music and Sounds(Japanese Choir and Instruments) kanbei having the most Oriental instrumentation, Sonja being a Newer Generation she has some more modern but still retaining the oriental sound scheme, And Sensei being an Old Timer (and also a nod to us the veterans) he has a jazzy, samba and bossa nova inspired theme, Because japan in the 40s,50s,60s had a lot of Influence from A lotta cultures European and South Americans. Blue moon has the Eastern Europe Motif, Snow, Piano and Chimes because snow for some reason, Grit doesnt fit really well into blue moon(Alas he was Orange Star before AW1) Thats why hes a Cowboy LIke, he would belong to Orange Star. Colin is the Naive Theme but Strong Willed and Hard Working albeit having a lot of money. Green Earth is more Like Europe In General, Them having Guitars and stuff its because Literally British, Germans Bands born from there. Thats why Jess and Eagle have Such a strong Guitar and Drums Motif. Also I dunno what they did to Black Hole Motif, It was supposed to be a distorted, Darker, Synthesized more music. Because Black Hole is mostly Alien and Evil(Look at the black hole units they all look like something straight from a scifi movie). I didnt like what they did to Hawke theme and Sturm. it sounds less intimidating than the GBA versions. Hawke Theme sounded like a dangerous and calculating foe. Sturm Sounded Exactly like He was. A Power Driven Dictator That wouldnt spare no expense and no one to achieve his Goal. They adding silly wub dub on top of those Themes was eww at most.. They could have gone for a more ''Dark'' and synthesized music to them. To sound more alien and darker. Still liked they did a clone andy theme The Flak Theme is Ok, Flak Power Theme had the exact motif from Black Hole Super SCOP on the GBA. Lash isnt really a black hole, she joined black Hole only for Fun. Her fun is inventing things and things going Kaboom. Thats why Her theme sounds so goofy apart from the other BH Cast. Adder theme is cool. If they ever remake Dual Strike, I hope they make clone themes for each cloned CO. And I HOPE they Dont butcher Jake's Theme
I would have stopped the video if Andy's Power did not go top tier. Now I can watch the rest of the video. Surely both of Sensei's themes would be up there too.
Nah, eagles power theme is super good. Makes me picture him flying top gun style through the air. And it still retains enough identity, it just adds the exitement of flying
I find it very interesting how the best thing to come out of this remake is the music. Everything else is just, well, there. This shows how good the soundtrack in the original game was.
you can tell that the music and art team fav CO is sensei, which would make sense in Japanese culture lol they do always have mad respect for their elders ps i was always biased to lash because she is my fav CO, she is kinda weird now with her updated looks but i do like the crazy elements they added to her animation when she does massive damage or gets a kill but i will never put her theme above sensei even with my bias lol i also prefer the version of blue moons theme from AW2 to me it seems more developed and slower paced which suits the message even more than the new version which seems busier for my taste, those violins though are a nice touch
you did Power of Max dirty. I hated Max's theme until I heard power of max, and it retroactively makes his normal theme BETTER. Still good to see Drake get his due, though.
I'm watching this video at 1.5x speed and Grits theme sounds awesome like that. They could just have sped up his normal theme and it would have made a better power theme.
If you ask me the only correct way to play the sea fortress mission is to use the bombers and fighters to prevent your copters from getting first striked by your opponent’s copters.
Sensei and his new disciple (anyone has played Advance Wars Story romhack will know what I meant) are together. What a twist that I didn't expect, but very well deserved. I'm also happy that you guys appreciate my idol/soul mate Sonja's theme. They forgot to add the alarm sound to Hawke theme and it's so underwhelming to me. They removed the finger snap in Grit's theme, so underwhelming.
here's an idea to improve sami power theme. incorporate a marching band into the original/normal theme. since you know, she is a infantry specialist and with the marching theme having it feel she march forward with her soldier (mostly mech). could be a cool remix
I'm going to be honest, both of Hawke's themes should be in the bottom of Underwhelming. They just really don't sound good at all to me. His theme peaked in Dual Strike, and I can't be convinced.
Jess had the single best theme in the original games imo, and the reboot absolutely fucked it up. A bunch of the other themes are great, Sensei's obviously, but Jess had a metal-music-you'd-hear-in-a-military-motorpool vibe to it, with the torque wrench, impact gun, metal on metal. Now it's just so lifeless imo.
clone andy is the best thing to come out of this remake, I feel Sarah Williams influenced the design on lash hard which is fine. Adder's theme is kinda weak in this, because the percussion used to carry it sounds like marching troops which fits his theme HARD i'll give it up for his power theme thankgod someone who feels Sturm's new theme sounds bad. I was awe struck 20 years ago like i couldn't beat it because of that lol.
It's not just her clothes, it's her face that's extremely different. Eyes changed from curved downward to pointed upwards (this may seem like a small thing if you're unfamiliar with it but it has a huge impact on how a character comes across visually) and the heavy eyeliner especially. The hair is much less swept back compared to the DS portrait as well (which is the one I'm the most used to). The buckles and straps all over her jacket definitely don't help though. She's gone from pale evil scientist who doesn't care about her appearance to a goth clubber.
@@Evilmon2 I have no Idea what you mean about the direction of the eyes pointing, they're just round in both older games. The eyeliner and the presence of the slight bangs just seem to bits incorporated from the Advance Wars 2 design (like the belts actually, though they aren't a different color from the rest of the coat in 2).
Switch remake? Wow. I love this game on my old GBA. And Old soundtrack is also great… especially if we consider tech back then. Pokemon or Heroes of Might and Magic 3 could ad music based mostly on 3 sounds/instruments. For such limited palete, they made exeptional job.
My only critique with the AW Reboot OST is Virt didn't contribute to it. Could you imagine a "Kaufman Cut" of this soundtrack ala Crypt of the Necrodancer?! EDIT: The more I think about it, Tommy Pedrini collab'd with Jake Kaufman for quite awhile, so maybe this is the best we got
The Super CO wasn't meant for focusing on one CO like they went with its supposed to represent the 4 allied nations to come together to defeat a greater threat, The Super CO theme was awesome for that reason so I disagree. They can easily keep the badass music like andy's theme on his CO power so that way it's still there. Yellow Comet > Gold Comet
hawkes power face at the bottom of underwhelming makes me laugh and cry so much, the only real Botchjob in the Remake, i appriciate how they tried but it's missing key features aswell as that extra Oomph
Now lets hope the game does well enough for Dual Strike DLC, we need an updated Grimm's theme
Yesss plzzz
Grimm's theme is cool but really needs that modern enhancement, too compressed or something. And don't forget Kindle, Rachel and JAKE let's gooooo.

We definitely have different taste in music. I love Max and Grit's themes and am pretty meh on Sonja's. I'm also not big on club music, so the dance style remixes don't really do it for me
Same. Both Eagle themes are amazing to me, and I was shocked Sonja and Drake themes made it so high.
Also each nation has a Motif for some reason
Gold Comet has Oriental Music and Sounds(Japanese Choir and Instruments) kanbei having the most Oriental instrumentation, Sonja being a Newer Generation she has some more modern but still retaining the oriental sound scheme, And Sensei being an Old Timer (and also a nod to us the veterans) he has a jazzy, samba and bossa nova inspired theme, Because japan in the 40s,50s,60s had a lot of Influence from A lotta cultures European and South Americans.
Still liked they did a clone andy theme
The Flak Theme is Ok, Flak Power Theme had the exact motif from Black Hole Super SCOP on the GBA.
Sounds like the music alone is worth the purchase
Sturms theme in Underwhelming got me boutta throw hands
Sturm sweep!
This is truly the age of big brick shithouse villains
they did Jess’s normal theme dirty
This is my OST of the year for sure.
I would have stopped the video if Andy's Power did not go top tier. Now I can watch the rest of the video. Surely both of Sensei's themes would be up there too.
I honestly wish Drake's power theme leaned harder into the Sea Chanty vibes
Oh yeah its the guy that ripped the soundtrack, thanks again for that
Nah, eagles power theme is super good. Makes me picture him flying top gun style through the air. And it still retains enough identity, it just adds the exitement of flying
I find it very interesting how the best thing to come out of this remake is the music. Everything else is just, well, there. This shows how good the soundtrack in the original game was.
I low-key think you could argue base Drake is actually Absolutely Amazing.
Power Kanbei, and normal Grit got CHEATED here though haha.
you can tell that the music and art team fav CO is sensei, which would make sense in Japanese culture lol they do always have mad respect for their elders ps i was always biased to lash because she is my fav CO, she is kinda weird now with her updated looks but i do like the crazy elements they added to her animation when she does massive damage or gets a kill but i will never put her theme above sensei even with my bias lol
i also prefer the version of blue moons theme from AW2 to me it seems more developed and slower paced which suits the message even more than the new version which seems busier for my taste, those violins though are a nice touch
you did Power of Max dirty.
36:43 That makes me wonder, Is Normal Andy Afraid of ladybugs or It's just the Clone? Given Andy's track record it can go either way.
Power Drake in underwhelming is a war crime.
Sturm's theme was exactly what I expected
It's basically just Sturm's theme
Final Front was better than expected
I’ve only started playing this, but Andy’s hyper repair theme instantly became the favorite of mine so far.
You cannot go wrong with more eurobeat~
clone andy is the best thing to come out of this remake, I feel Sarah Williams influenced the design on lash hard which is fine.
41:03 Updated design? That's just her Dual Strike design, they just gave her a belt and made the shoulders/collar of her jacket a different color.
Can't wait for you to make a review of the game
Sturm's power theme is S tier. Do the R button info tab during it. You're welcome.
Switch remake? Wow. I love this game on my old GBA. And Old soundtrack is also great… especially if we consider tech back then. Pokemon or Heroes of Might and Magic 3 could ad music based mostly on 3 sounds/instruments. For such limited palete, they made exeptional job.
You killed me at the Sturm meme template
53:30 "This isn't even my final Sturm!"
Grit really wants to get a break of that KitKat bar
I'm just curious why you haven't done a playthrough on the channel on advance wars
They have. On AW and AW2 around last year or so.
@@douglashtang oh, the originals in guessing?
Omg that Sensei theme is freaking amazing 😍😍😍
I am shocked and apalled that CO Power Grit didn't go into Underwhelming. Look how they massacred my boy!
Great list, BUT Grit’s normal theme should have been a bit higher imo.
Re-boot Camp music slaps
The Super CO wasn't meant for focusing on one CO like they went with its supposed to represent the 4 allied nations to come together to defeat a greater threat, The Super CO theme was awesome for that reason so I disagree. They can easily keep the badass music like andy's theme on his CO power so that way it's still there.
Yellow Comet > Gold Comet
andy "what is an airport"
nell "lash's forehead Andy..."
PSA i love lash but im torn between classic lash/DS lash and this new one lol
Great video!
@TheConsoulsBand shredded Sensei theme
Adders theme isn't a key change, they changed the backing harmony.
to me, advance wars' most recognisable theme is sensei's, but I gotta love my son collin
Blue moon's map theme is so fucking gorgeous.
It and green earth's are easy S tiers imo
28:17 because orange star is red star in the japanese localization.
I've listened to a some themes and my favs are Adder's power, Sturm's theme, Clone Andy's theme And Sensei''s Power,
Adder just go so fucking hard
I Like Lash Power theme even more ^^
CONSOULS SWEEP !!
proud of my boy clone andy being top 3
Adder has the best power activation. SIDEWIDER HAHAHAAHAHAH.
hawkes power face at the bottom of underwhelming makes me laugh and cry so much, the only real Botchjob in the Remake, i appriciate how they tried but it's missing key features aswell as that extra Oomph
