I had a set of LP Bongos for about 20 years and in Hawaii. It started getting cracks. I went to a Japanese man, a woodworking master. He told me with the old glues they can be slightly revived by first rubbing the cracks with paint thinner. Then begin regluing. Had a Gon Bops conga in the 70's (hated it, weighed a ton, never sounded good to me, have a Toca, black, cow skin head, love it, got an LP Tumba, Patato model, have never gotten a sound I liked). This was a great video. Spot on presentation. I cobbled together sounds and tones as best I could after being a set drummer, and mostly not having lessons. Now I'm going back to the beginning, and relearning, You Tube is fantastic for learning. Full of players like yourself, with sharing knowledge, skills, styles.... Thank you so much!
I just subscribed great explanation of how to look for the right Conga I am a newbie even Dow I love salsa so the recommendation is Palisades LP? With Water Buffalo skin to start techniques even Dow I have good ears on differential of sounds but your explanations of what to look for to know that you’re not making a mistake thinking you’re buying the perfect drum and you’re not checking for details depending of what you want to play a drum for, I love music and at my 67 yrs is something will entertain me we family gather in the house and yard thank you
Hi, I love your video series on bongos. I bought a set of LP bongos new old stock. I want to keep them forever. my question to you is when i tune them and practice on them when finished is it ok to leave them tuned or loosen the skins? Thank you so much.
Awesome video...natural skin has a warmer sound in my opinion but they're hard on the hands. I heard that you can urinate on your hands and of course clean them after....its good for the skin.
A GOOD VIDEO AS PLASTIC SKINS WILL NEVER COME CLOSE TO THE REAL SOUNDS OF GONGAS. I STUPIDLY LEFT MY KIT IN A GARAGE DURING WINTER AND FORGOT TO LOOSEN THOSE SKINS. MY REQUINTO CRACKED IN 3 PLACES AND I BOUGHT ALL EVANS SKINS. ODDLY THE CONGA ONE HAS NEVER SEATED PROPERLY INTO THE RIM AND IT MAKES ME FURIOUS!!!
Holà veo que nadie te respondió , yo puedo darte clases online , soy percusionista profesional toco percussion cubana desde hace muchos años .

@@BruteForce. always best to detune.
@@pcastag1 ok Gracias, thank you. detune after I'm finished practicing got it.
@BruteForce. yes sir!
@BruteForce. couple quarter turns is all you need. If for a prolonged period I'll do a full turn or two or of going through temp or climate change.
I will purchase a Moperc tumba made of maple. The Custom Cubano series

Holy shit, is this some secret knowledge among seasoned congueros? I'm just starting my journey into conga playing, what am i getting myself into 😂
@mutantbananas1 Its on a Giovanni Hidalgo instrumental video...I guess the acidity works on calous...
congrats on the channel!
Do you reccomend a set of LP Matador or LP Classic as a first pair? Is buying just the 11" ¾ good enough?
Magnifico.

@normlor I've done that too but in the summer here in Texas. Put cracks in two really nice drums .
I had an Lp old Galaxy quinto that cracked.
@laurencecousins7226 any drum can crack!
Las de madera definitivament suenan mas profundas, Salllllllllllsaaaaaaaaa
And opinión about the roy galvan congas ?!
@@donyorchs6906 amazing drums. Love the shape. I had a set years ago that I sold. The 11" was as close to perfect sound as you can get.
Thank you
Is it ok to just buy a quinto as your first “conga”??
An 11" quinto? Yeah for sure. Anything smaller won't really give you the space to practice tumbao.
@@pcastag1 Oh ok cool, thank you for your response🙏🏽
@@agprules3775 I would allways go for the conga...
