Mine too ..why dont they put people who actually deserve to be there , like people who actually played the series to do a proper interview to begin with
I really like David Hayter (not just in Metal Gear but also in his other performances) - and I have played Metal Gear since the early games and still play them. After David Hayter did the voice for so long I do have certain attachment to it, but that doesn't mean that I can't think of anything else. The idea was to change the voice actor already in the third game - they had approached Kurt Russell, but he couldn't commit due to scheduling conflicts. Finally with Phantom Pain they did it in form of Kiefer Sutherland. Hayter himself has said that he respects Kiefer Sutherland (he even knows him) and he has no no problem with him.
moonspire lol yeah what a. Love. Everyone knows they hardly had contact just out of fact They work in completely different counties and Kojima knowing no English whatsoever
This guy has some real talent in voice acting. Just started playing the Metal Gear series not too long ago and fell in love with his voice and recently I saw Lupin the 3rd Castle of Cagliostro and was surprised Hayter voiced Lupin as well, which sounds pretty much how he normally speaks.
To be honest my headcanon is that Kiefer plays Venom and the original Boss and Snake are Hayter. If I structure it that way then I'm completely fine with Kiefer being the body double.
The problem with that is that the original Big Boss has been voiced by 3 people. Hayter, Sutherland and Richard Doyle. Sutherland voiced the original Big Boss in both Ground Zeroes and the little we saw of him in MGS5. Thus, Sutherland doesn't only voice Venom, he also voices the original Big Boss.
GeneralErlend You forget that Hayter plays boss in Peace Walker as well, there may have been plans for the twist with a Hayter reveal but I suppose it might've been too obvious. I'm okay with Doyle in MGS4 since by then we'd never heard the voice of old Big Boss, and he fit the role well. I love Sutherlands voice, but the sheer lack of script and actual voice lines from him may as well undo the whole point of casting him. In my opinion, the show stealer is definitely Skull Face, playing through MGSV a second time genuinely makes you approached the sheer quality of his voice acting in the game, since he gets a significant amount throughout the whole game, all of it was wonderful, with the obvious exception of the jeep ride.
Rithan Husky Well it had just been a few years since Shadow Moses and Big Shell, plus with the accelerated aging it's not hard to imagine that his voice would have little change.
I genuinely prefer the way the Japanese dub does it. Ohtsuka always voices Solid Snake and Solidus. He voices Venom and Big Boss in every game except 4. Ohtsuka's father (who was also a voice actor) voiced Big Boss in 4. It's far more elegant and consistent than the English dub.
Its very rare to find people like *David Hayter* to play there own games And he is even a *BIG FAN* of it Which makes him be *EVEN MORE emotional , believable and lively in the NEXT MGS game* *That's why each time i could feel his Character coming to life each time*
I know Hideo Kojima probably didn't handpick David Hayter to play Solid Snake years ago during the localization of Metal Gear Solid, but he's played Snake in every iteration for the better part of 2 decades. The series has succeeded with Hayter and he's been an advocate for the brand. You don't just replace the guy in the swan song. You let him see the character through to the end. So when Kojima and Konami parted ways, I didn't shed a tear.
Nerv ClaX He DID in fact hand pick David Hayter. He was a fan from the Guyver movie and if you could see a Guyver statue in his office in a Metal Gear Solid art book . Kojima is a control freak and he controlled every aspect of the game much the same way George Lucas did with Star Wars.
vetterboy1982 - He didn't. Kojima only met Hayter after recording was done and recognized him from Guyver. The English VAs were chosen by Kris Zimmerman (he even says as much in this very video). Kojima was only involved with the Japanese VAs. Also, Guyver was a popular manga way before it was made into a low budget live-action movie. I seriously doubt that statue he owns is based on the movie version of the character.
His voice needs to be heard! He has to keep doing voice acting because of his spine shivering, grungie, iconic tone to his voice acting! Hayter we will always love you.
david made visible with the love bloom quote that the girl that kept talking about his mgs role knew none of it. wonder why they hire pp like this anyway. not to mention how ignorant she proved to be when asked about david and kojima great friendship.
I was at C2E2 that year solely for David and Jennifer. I had been cast as the voice of Snake in a MGS fan project, which sadly will never come to fruition now, but I was able to tell David about what I was doing, as I had been told that someone else involved with our project had told him about it, and that person told us he was excited about it. David said he believed my impression of his Snake voice was the best he had heard and gave me a hug after we took a photo together. That made my life to say the least.
I met Scott McNeil and that dude was awesome. Free pictures, autographs, voice bits. I event went to the loading dock with him for a smoke and I don't even smoke
Joey O'Neil So he should voice a character, who is a completely different person from he usually voices, just because his voice is iconic? That makes no sense. You're an idiot. Hayter acted like a child, Venom is NOT big boss. He has DIFFERENT vocal cords you idiot. You have no idea what you're talking about you ignorant twat. Besides, Judging by your age I doubt you even played Metal Gear, like I have. Stop embarrassing yourself. Should person A voice Person X just because Person A helped build the series? No. Should Person A get to voice Person B (like he would of if he acted like an adult) after throwing a tantrum like a child? No.

they could say, sometime later ground zeroes was released, we have the oportunity to work with a hollywood star, and we choose to change like Kojima did in a video.
I wish it was so, but Sutherland *did* voice the original Big Boss in both Ground Zeroes and in MGS5. I don't mind Sutherland at all, but I kind of wish Hayter got to voice the original Big Boss for MGS5 and Ground Zeroes, then having Sutherland voice Venom Snake exclusively, maybe having the damage he got during the chopper crash and the surgery as an excuse to why his voice changed. Then, at the very end when he looks at the mirror, having Hayter speak to him as Big Boss. That way I think pretty much everyone would have been to some extent satisfied.
Exactly, GeneralErlend. When you follow it logically, no, they didn't do it right or keep the voices consistent. Big Boss's voice literally changes from MGS3/Peacewalker to Ground Zeroes, where it IS STILL THE REAL BIG BOSS.
bellers01 yh, you know the flamming unicorns and floating kids (OK ik it's psycho mantis but still). honestly I felt the other metal gears had more of a serious tone than 5, to much pissing about and as much fun as the open world was I would of rather had a more linear mgs like before with more focus on story instead of other crap just to keep you playing the game

It's great to see that he is the bigger person regarding the recasting of Big Boss. In earlier years he was willing to be a little more vocal about his negative feelings towards Kojima. Maybe it was because of what happened to Kojima, but whatever the reason, I really appreciate him being so professional about it. I would be happy if they ended the series now, but they do, I hope Konami brings him back.
