I miss the party quest days the social interactions were EVERYTHING
Nexon also had a game called combat arms and there was an exploit called tapping where if you unplugged your ethernet cable you had a 30second window to go up to each opponent and shoot them. then youd plug your cable back in and all those shots would register

nigga this multi billion dollar corporation tried to release this same game that has generated over a trillion dollars in 3d and it flopped. I think it's safe to say that MapleStory has injected itself into international intellectual property the same way that Mickey Mouse is known around the world as being from USA, MapleStory is known as being from South Korea.

@@Slothieify A more valid thing to call a niche would be something that will always remain in obscurity due to its inherent position in culture. I doubt a day will ever come in humanity where everyone you meet wants to get involved with underwater basket weaving.

Thank you for this video, as a ex-ms smuggler during my childhood, this is the first time i have came across a video about Smuggling in Maple Story for it's history. I remember turning off the Wi-Fi button on the side of my laptop to smuggle. Thank the algorythym blessing me this video from a small creator :)
my dial up internet was so bad I could smuggle an item without even disconnecting my cord.
Maple Story hates their players. Exploiting the game is just leveling the playing field.
I agree completely, but for legal purposes I've never exploited anything haha

there was a summer event where you could smuggle an all class claw + water balloon shurikens, which dealt basically no damage, but were a really nice flex as the years went on and people forgot about the forgettable event.
My little bro was one of the big smugglers back in 06/07 oh Khani server in NA, I loved those days

You sadly missed Crimson Wood Party Quest and being able to smuggle out all the Relic Weapons, they were tradable, stacked, and if you were a Mechanic at the time, you could easily build up a stockpile of the Forbidden Guns for future runs since you can skip the pirate trial extremely quickly. Great video btw! I still have the Staff of the First Magic my brother game me years ago as a prized possession from smuggling it out all those years ago.
Hey dude, I love how you authentic this feels. You've essentially turned a well-edited video essay and gave it a really good Maple spin without really taking away from the feeling of it being... well, well-produced and edited. A lot of Maple content on RUclips feels hyper casual, and with the size of the community, I can't really blame people for going that direction. I really hope you keep this style up to approach topics both nostalgic and modern about this game that's taken over our lives. Looking forward to more of this type of stuff and the improvements you can add to it!

There's one barely known fact that you may have missed and I never see mentioned anymore--the original smuggling method.
Way back in the first days of GMS beta, you could smuggle by sending a trade request to someone, then have the person leave the PQ map before accepting the trade. You didn't have to be in the same map as someone to complete a trade as long as the request was sent while you were together. Hilariously simple but 10 year old me thought it was hot shit haha.
Also, there was enough latency that we didn't need to disconnect our internet to smuggle. Just loot the item off the ground immediately after you talk to the NPC, if timed right you'd smuggle items through.
Saw your video and right away I can tell you going to be big due to the quality of your videos.
Man, this was definitely after my time in Maple. I played back when tracking someone in the PQ was the strat.

Holy shit, i lived this.... i smuggled so many rice cakes because my best friend had a quick restart button on his modem that made disconnecting and reconnecting incredibly simple. What a high quality video. damn

I remember when the glitch in orbis pq was discovered, i was able to get from 67 to 70 in several hours. It was an amazing experience
Man, that makes me feel nostalgic for the game. I loved doing PQs, as socially awkward I was, though I never really did attempt smuggling despite seeing vids of it.
From what I remember, network manipulation like this was called "tapping" in another nexon game, combat arms. People (who I definitely wasn't one of) would disconnect, run around a corner, shoot, then reconnect. Was annoying to fight

Speaking about happyville, there was a happyville PQ where if you disconnected your router, you can claim the reward exp multiple times in one run. It would cap though up to like 3 or 5 times. Can you can repeat it if you pass lead and cycle through everyone to repeat the same exploit. And there was no limit to how many times you can go in. But I think it was still around the time of one party per channel…. And they had it split for levels, so there wa some for lv 30’s, one for lv 50’s, and one for lv 70+.
Now this brings back memories. I remember how hard it was smuggling stuff out of PQs. but great fun memories.

Never saw Kerning PQ smuggling. But I did sell my efforts but having an AC. Even with one and 20 channels was still almost impossible to get in but I used auto click to get into them and man was that some crazy xp and money!
this along with like AventureQuest was one of the big hitters for popular mmorpgs back in the day there with Runescape, Dota, T4C, Habbo Hotel etc. Epic times
This is the part of maplestory where my heart and mind belong.
I remember using an Exploit in the cash shop were you could put in a negative amount of cubes and it would give you intimate cubes and everyone was running around with Major damage. Also a exploit where my character had around 10 extra skills that belonged to other classes and made my range very high. Also an Exploit in the Dimension gloves PQ I could get an infinite amount of high quality dimension gloves and sell them for high price on the market. Plus various trainers from w8baby and Terminal even in v55 and v62 you could spawn bosses. MapleStory has a HUGE list of past Exploits and hacks. Probably the most hacked MMORPG in History.

After 15 years since I last logged in. I logged back in 2 days ago. I guess they have the burning characters that's new. Made a new character. And also they have the if you level up 1 level they give you 2 more levels on top of that as a promo going on. I kid you not 2 days of playing I'm level 100. 😂. I'm a season 1 player. Alot has changed
I came back recently too. I remember hitting level 70 as a Ranger and man... I felt like the fucking KING OF THE WORLD when I hit 70 and then eventually 100. 2 whole years on and off in the making.
I come back and hit level 250 in like a month and while I do miss that high I got back then, I think the reason I liked it so much was because my friends all congratulated me and I was so used to having ABSOLUTE SHIT shoveled at me by Nexon back then that any semblance of good that I got for overcoming it just made it that much sweeter. The game now is objectively better in terms of Quality of Life, Gameplay, Boss mechanics, events, etc.. But man there was just something magical in overcoming the tedium and assinine requirements that you just don't get as much unless you really go deep into the rabbit hole of current Maplestory.

I remember i once get temporary banned because my party used a glitch i didnt even knew at time in one of the old christmas event (one with a grinch as boss) not sure is was happy ville (i couldnt find anything about this grinch boss x.x)

I remember doing these at a kid, but glitching kerning pq wasnt useful because the exp the curse eye mobs (or w/e their name was) gave actually made it so it was better for you to farm them until like 30 seconds left, then go to the next stage.

There will be no Nostolgia that will bug me because it will never come back more than OG Maplestory in it's Prime. Not even Private servers can bring that the Energy, Community, Glitches, The lack of Knowledge because not having everything blasted on RUclips. Leader boards having meaning. Being level 70 and being considered a God. Hene H'ing. Good gosh man, And who can forget the drug filled BGM... Long live MS. Nexon you Cube Scammers, bring back the OG server. That would be a good way to get people off your ass.

I miss how social the game used to be... I jump in from time to time and I have a few higher level characters now (no 250+ cuz im always lazy when the leveling events for that come around) but I always bounce off of it because I never have any friends to play with... I did a couple years ago and that was great but they all started to fall off and then so did I. The old MS may have been awful but god damn was it amazing!
